Thilanka Hotel in Kandy

I have never given a one star review anywhere before but this hotel had bed bugs! My partner and I have the trademark bed bug rash. The room was old and dated and the furniture dirty. This hotel was disappointing. The best part about it was the amazing view. There was an over powering smell in the bathroom and the WIFI at times was none existent. We had to use our mobile data. The TV did not work properly and the food was nowhere near 4 star quality. In comparison to the other numerous hotels we stayed in whilst in Sri Lanka this did not meet the same standards and was the worst by far. This hotel has so much potential but it seems they only focus on the pool and the view. I usually research before getting a hotel but our driver persuaded us to change to this hotel and we regretted it. As a well travelled person I would have avoided this hotel on reviews alone.

I feel compelled to write a review about my recent trip to Thilanka. Having just been at an excellent 4 star in Colombo I could not believe that this hotel dares to consider itself such. It was absolutely filthy. The sheets and towels, cushions and furniture were so dirty - grey, ground in dirt on all surfaces, switches and walls. To charge so much a night for this is extortionate.
Breakfast was pretty lame. Some of the food was definitely stale and smelled off. Both myself and my companion developed mild stomach problems whilst here (we only ate at the hotel). The brilliant view and pool are the only things that the hotel can claim a rating for. The pool staff were downright rude, acting as if it was inconvenient to serve a drink or sandwich and mainly stared at us whilst we were in the pool. I feel completely let down by my experience here and generally I am not a fussy person at all.
