Description

Royal Thalassa Monastir is a 5-star resort hotel built in 1999 and renovated in 2008, located just 1 km from Monastir airport. It features 280 rooms spread over a 4-story building with options including sea view rooms, garden view rooms, and suites. Guests have direct access to a private sandy beach only 10 meters away, complete with sun loungers and umbrellas. The hotel grounds include an outdoor pool, four bars, three restaurants, and a conference center with four meeting rooms. A notable highlight is the on-site thalassotherapy center offering spa treatments, a sauna, hammam, and massages. The hotel provides facilities such as air conditioning, WiFi, free parking, and a fitness center. While the service is generally praised for friendliness and attentiveness, reviews note some inconsistent maintenance and mixed feedback on food variety. Overall, it's a large resort with a strong focus on wellness and relaxation close to the airport and coastline.

Location

Royal Thalassa Monastir is situated in Monastir at 75 Route Touristique Skanes B.P, only 1 km from Habib Bourguiba International Airport (MIR). The private sandy beach lies just 10 meters from the hotel, ensuring easy beach access. Although the hotel is near the airport, the immediate surroundings lack shops or restaurants within walking distance. For excursions or local amenities, guests can take a short train ride to Monastir city center or Sousse. The hotel’s location is convenient for travelers seeking proximity to the airport and coastal activities but less suited for those wanting walkable urban attractions or nightlife.

Tips

  • Book a sea view room on a higher floor to benefit from better furnishings and views.
  • Bring your own beach towels or ensure you receive them early as the hotel has limited towel availability.
  • If you plan to explore beyond the resort, use the regular train service to Monastir or Sousse for affordable and convenient transport.

My husband and myself Just left Royal Thalassa to return home. We are deeply saddened for this holiday to end. I will miss the amazing time I spent at this exceptionally wonderful hotel.Great staff, great food and above all excellent service.
Good variety of food dishes that also changed regularly. from the main restaurant However Wasn’t too impressed with Mona restaurant.Limited dishes to choose from.
The most I will miss is the swimming at the indoor pool. I was a beginner when I stepped into that pool but with the help and guidance of Yaseen the life guard and Moiz I can now swim.
Osam every morning saw me walk in and prepared a fresh doughnut for me.
All the team in the restaurant was amazing, they always greeted us with a massive smile and were never reluctant to help. Momo, Chica and Meme were always fun to be around.
The trip to the Olive festive was a pleasant surprise.Tasting various types of breads and olive oils which was arranged by the hotel staff.
The staff at reception desk were friendly and always helpful.
The rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard with fresh water bottles on daily bases.
I will definitely go back.

Right we arrived for a Christmas break and leave on the 28th December.
Hotel is clean but tired, gym is chargeable per day,
Food is a small selection, very similar everyday with long waits for the grill and pancakes. Overall disappointed with food choice.
Location...middle of nowhere, nothing outside the resort in a walkable distance.
Service is ok, if you speak French it's a major plus, English speak folk will struggle!!
No onsite shop/arcades etc
The entertainment....well it's cringy, awful and runs late! Rather not have it than see the room walk out during the acts it was that bad!
Beach is limited and covered in litter either side of the hotel not a nice walk on the beach.
All inclusive drinks are served from one bar so it does gets busy and water is chargeable!!
You are provided with 2 bottles a day (if you're lucky) then it's about £2 a bottle of water 7TDN for a 900ml glass bottle.
Overall all better places to stay for the money!!

Loved coming and staying here.

The staff were lovely. The food was tasty, particularly the couscous. There was always a variety to cater to different food palettes. It was also lovely how the staff mingled with the guests and this created a very homely, welcoming environment, particularly Chada.

There were direct, regular trains to Monastir and Sousse. It costs half a dinar, so much cheaper than the 30 dinar plus that you are charged by the taxi drivers.

There isn't a masjid in the area, but you can easily hop on the train if you want to join for communal prayer. It is a quick journey into Monastir and the masjid is about a 5 minute walk when you get there.

My room was lovely and kept looking lovely by the staff. Noura was always really warm.

The themed nights were entertaining. Some hit differently but that's because people have different tastes, which is why they do a variety.

The other guests were also really welcoming, too.

I look forward to coming back and seeing everyone again. I have made some friends on this trip, both in the hotel and on my travels, that I will definitely keep in touch with and hope to see again soon.

Our stay at Royal Thalassa Monastir was a wonderful holiday in one of the most sustainable hotels in Tunisia Despite the size of the property, the hotel convinces with its beautiful pool and beach area.. The hospitality and attention of the hotel staff makes visitors feel special and welcomes everyone with warmth el. A special mention to the guest relations lady a credit to the hotel and the bar staff... The rooms are tastefully decorated and the kitchen convinces with variety and excellent food. We will definitely come back.

Ok so let’s start off with this definitely isn’t a five star hotel, it may have been at one time but not now. If you have in your mind that this will be a five star hotel you are going to be very disappointed. Ok so the bad points first as usual. The location is very remote, if you want to popout to a grocery store or restaurant forget it, nothing around apart from other hotels and an airport although I was told the town is only a short taxi ride away ( we weren’t really bothered but I know some would be). The beach is very narrow and you are constantly asked by the same people if you want to buy a towel but they go if you tell them no. If I’m judging the hotel as a 5* as they claim it is then I wouldn’t expect cracked floor tiles in the bathroom, tv aerial socket to be hanging out of the wall, cupboard door handle falling off, wardrobe doors not aligned, no selections of toiletries, no milk in the rooms ( not just ours, I heard other people stating the same things), I could go on. Ok so the good points. Although the food can be slightly repetitive it was always hot and seemed good quality compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at. As usual in these hotels the staff are what makes the holiday so much better. The guys behind the bar and the staff in the restaurant were fantastic plus the entertainment staff just don’t stop. Not only are they all always helpful, always cheerful but go out of their way for you ( yes I know they want tips but it felt a lot more genuine than other hotels I have visited). There are flat screen smart TV’s in the room with Netflix, YouTube & Prime The hotel overall itself is great with its own private beach and beach bar you can have a quiet drink just looking out to sea. Would I return? Yes I definitely would but it would also be depending on the price. P.S Really shocked at the reviews regarding rude staff. I never experienced any of the staff being anything less that fantastic. Maybe sometimes it depends on how the person treats them?

After visiting this hotel last year and absolutely loving the experience I came back again this year with another friend, after the amazing entertainment team last year I wasn’t expecting the same, but yet again Thallasa has exceeded expectations AGAIN! The entertainment team put everything they have into making sure that every guest has an absolutely amazing experience. They welcome you, make you feel part of the family and make sure you feel included in everything. They go above and beyond every second of the day and work so hard! We have had an amazing experience and I am going home with a six pack from laughing with them. Restaurant staff also work exceptionally hard while managers stand doing nothing but telling them off- which is very uncomfortable for guests. They staff that do not stop and make the holiday extra special for the guest ie entertainment and restaurant staff (not managers) deserve their recognition. Please give the entertainment team more of a budget so that they can work to their potential and they could do exceptional things with it!! Thank you to Chico, Momo, llioua, yassin and Nino for an amazing holiday

You’re comparing this place unnecessarily to a European hotel. Let’s not forget, you didn’t choose this one by accident — the good price also comes with different standards than what you’re used to in Europe.

The courtyard and the pool area are very neat and clean, and the beach is also well maintained. However, the tennis court, and especially the tennis rackets, are in quite poor condition.

The animators are rather annoying, constantly shouting — especially Zero. The DJ is terrible; it would honestly be better if he just let the music play on its own. The live music evenings were mostly nice, except for the synthesizer duo, which was more like a comedy show than a concert.

As for the food, some dishes are really tasty, while others are almost inedible. The fruits are dry and flavorless. On the positive side, the pizza, pancakes, fries, seafood, and most of the fish dishes were delicious. The vegetable cream soups were also good.

The bottled drinks were nice, but the lemonades and slushy were about ten times sweeter than they should be. The desserts were mostly tasty, and the ice cream was fine too.

However, no matter how many cocktails you drink throughout the day, you won’t get drunk — I have no idea what they’re mixing into the spirits (rum, whiskey, etc.). The beer is also of pretty low quality

Food selection was not great, same things on menu most nights. Mainly catered to French and Russian. Food not labelled well at all, had what i thought was chicken and labelled as chicken, turned out to be fish!! Good job i didn’t have any allergies. Same again with dessert, my partner had a cake that had nuts in but this was disclaimed anywhere! Again, luckily not allergies but only a matter of time until someone does have a reaction to the poor labelling system.

Bar staff morning and night were amazing, very attentive and friendly!

Rooms were okay, we had pool view and the toilet made a constant ‘filling up/flushing’ sound which was annoying. Beds were comfy and TV had Netflix, Prime etc which was good.

We had a distressing encounter with our coach driver on the transfer on the way back which we have contacted our provider about.

We booked a massage at the spa and we were forgotten about! Got into our massage 50 mins after the allotted time, which it was then rushed and the massage was not 50 minutes (which is what we paid for)

The hotel itself is no longer a 5-star as it is quite aged and needs some funds putting into it.

Arrival On arrival we were given documentation to fill in. The hotel was ill prepared no pens or a place to sit and complete it. When my partner finally got a pen she was pestered by a member of staff to hurry up and the member of staff was stood over her. My partner advised that she would give her pen back when completed but the member of staff was still hindering the process of this being completed. The reception manager came over to my partner was very loud and abrupt and snatched the pen out of her hand. This led to raised voices and not a welcoming start to our holiday. This led to the required documentation not being completed. Recommendation and corrective action: Prepare for your guest arrivals and have the appropriate equipment in place. Manager and reception staff to undertake basic customer service training. Room - 364 The room was far from 5 star Bathroom: Broken floor tiles that can cut your feet. Shower screen black with mould that had seen better days. Bathroom tiles broken and discoloured full of mould. Toilet Brush - Unfit for purpose infection control and health and safety are clearly low priority in this hotel in so many areas. Towels: Threadbare, stained and discoloured. Curtains: Filthy and full of black dust. Maid service: Poor and practically none existent even tipping didn’t work. Recommendations and corrective actions: Housekeeping team to be retrained or invest in a team with a can do attitude. Replace cracked and broken tiles. Replace threadbare, stained towels. Replace mouldy sealant around the bath and showers Deep clean rooms after every stay. Get rid of the toilet brushes they harbour germs and bacteria. The Director of the hotel had advised he visited my room at a meeting I had with him and stated it was adequate. I produced my evidence and we agreed to disagree. EasyJet had sold me a 5 star experience but had 3 star standards which I will be addressing with them. Cleanliness of hotel This leaves a lot to be desired and in 30years of visiting Tunisia is the worst. Communal areas Tired and dirty Toilet next to cafe bar disgusting. Broken toilet seat, overflowing bins, wet slippy floors, doors and door handles dirty. Carpets were cream in areas leading to your room. Heavily stained and threadbare in areas again hardly a 5 star experience that easyJet had sold me. Recommendations and corrective actions: Ensure communal areas are cleaned frequently and staff to sign off when last cleaned (toilets) so guests can be assured. Invest in a commercial hoover that can wash carpets. ( The maids do not have these they use a broom only) Outdoor and poolside: Dirty and heavily stained cushions by pool bar. Broken sun loungers heavily painted, chipped and dirty. Recommendations and corrective actions: Take broken loungers out of service and repair or dispose of. Deep clean the cushions or replace them. Pools: Danger!!!!!! Walking from the poolside into the pool the area was very slippy when gett
