Coast Inn at Lake Hood in Anchorage

NO HOT WATER! At check in, I was informed they had no hot water and will not have hot water for 3 weeks. This was at midnight and I was unhappy and exhausted so I took the room only to unpack and find out the tolit wouldn't flush. Maintenance had no idea where repair tools were. 1am I was asked if I wanted to move to another room. Offered a 30% discount which is an insult! We are expected to pay and they are expected to provide: a nice shower 🚿, peace and quiet, and a clean room. Note: No elevators! Large staircase! I have MS and at least they had a ground level room. The sweet front desk lady gets yelled at daily and I told her that is the management issue! I suggested she find a different job because they don't deserve her and I doubt they pay her anything near her worth! Question? Is it legal to NOT provide hot water ( because of hygiene needs and flu/ covid season)? How can they properly clean without hot water? How can customers clean their hands and body without warm/ hot water? Sonja Lauren

Checked in, got my key, carried my bags up the stairs (no elevators) walked as far away from the front desk to my room (after flying 5000 miles and having to work a 16 hr day the next day), and the key will mot open my door. I carry all of my bags back down to the front desk. Explain the situation. I get an eye roll and they reprogram my key. I carry all of my bags back up the stairs and down to my room. I try the key again. Still does not open the door. I repeated this for a total of 4 trips before I convince the front desk that there may be a problem. Then I stand there for 15 minutes waiting on the handyman to show up. I have been staying at the Coast since 2010. There is always something that goes like this. Not sure how this place stays open.

Walked into room and there were 2 air scrubbers Running, the odor was so strong with Smoke and Bleach, bed was broken, no help with changing rooms. Then after i was in room. House keeping just walked in to take Air scrubbers out.

Do NOT Stay Here — Complete Disaster! ★☆☆☆☆

This was hands down one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. The front desk staff had zero professionalism and acted like guests were an inconvenience. The room I was given was filthy — stains on the carpet, walls scuffed, and a horrible damp smell that made it hard to breathe.

The bathroom was disgusting. Mold in the shower, a broken faucet, and towels so worn out they should have been thrown away years ago. The bed was uncomfortable, the sheets were rough, and to top it off, the air conditioning barely worked. I hardly slept all night.

Noise was non-stop — slamming doors, loud voices in the hall, and thin walls that made it feel like I was in the room with strangers. Breakfast was a joke: stale bread, watered-down juice, and coffee that tasted like it was burned hours ago.

For the money they charge, this place is a total scam. Don’t waste your time or your money — there are plenty of better hotels nearby. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

We arrived at Anchorage airport close to 11pm. As requested upon collecting our bags I called the property to arrange airport shuttle… 12 times. Each time after 2-3 rings the call went straight to voicemail. We were about to get in a taxi, but a driver from Courtyard shuttle (Courtyard is across the street from this inn) and gave us a lift. The most galling aspect was the behaviour of the reception people, who basically shrugged, chuckled, and said that the phone must have been broken. No sympathy or apology. Other than that the hotel is typical 2-star inn at New. York price point, but that’s typical for Alaska. Avoid.
