TownePlace Suites by Marriott San Diego Downtown is a solid option if you want a clean, convenient place to stay near the downtown core without paying luxury-hotel prices. The rooms feel modern and practical, with a layout that works well for a quick weekend trip or a longer stay. I appreciated having space to spread out and the overall vibe was quiet enough to actually rest after being out in the city.

That said, parking here is definitely an adventure. Between navigating the downtown streets, tight turns, and the general “where exactly do I go now?” feeling, it can be a little stressful—especially if you arrive at night or with a larger vehicle. Once you’re parked, though, it’s manageable, and the location makes it easy to walk or rideshare to restaurants, the waterfront, and nearby attractions.

Breakfast is… okay. It’s convenient and gets the job done (coffee, basic hot items, and grab-and-go options), but don’t expect anything memorable. It’s the kind of breakfast that’s useful when you want to start the day quickly rather than hunt for a café.

Overall, I’d give it 4 stars: good value, comfortable rooms, and a great base for downtown—just be prepared for the parking and keep breakfast expectations modest.

Great stay

Heather and Erik were incredibly hospitable from the moment we arrived. They greeted us warmly, took the time to answer all of our questions, and made sure we had everything we needed. Their kindness and attentiveness truly made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We really appreciated their welcoming nature and would gladly stay again.

The parking situation is somewhat inconvenient because the lot is detached from the hotel, making it difficult to transport luggage to the entrance after a long drive. While the room was clean and the staff was attentive, the studio layout was surprisingly cramped and felt significantly smaller than other studio hotels I have experienced.

Had a wonderful stay at this place. It is at a very approachable distance from zoo, sea world and many other attractions of the city. The staff was amazing and I want to give a huge shout out to Isaiah, Syria, Crystal, Heather, Erick and Tera for their hospitality and amazing service. They really went an extra mile in helping us in everything. The kitchen staff and the housekeeping staff was great. I would definitely recommend the place.

Amazing niche hotel that was VERY accommodating for myself and my group. We spent last weekend here and booked over 5 rooms. The hotel is small and cozy, and is over all very clean. Special shoutout to Heather and the rest of the front house staff for being so accommodating and kind, you guys we're a major part of our highlight.

This hotel did its job. We were only there for one night. Friendly staff and right in the middle of downtown.

In the center of San Diego, the location is good. There is a public parking lot opposite, and you can park for free for 30 minutes at the hotel entrance. The hotel's parking lot is shared with the Holiday Inn next door, which is very safe. The room is fully equipped with pots and pans, but the room is relatively small, everything else is ok

Room is great, but the bathroom needs improvement. The shower head switch and the drain is rusty. The drain stopper doesn’t work either.

Tried hotel when it opened in 2018 and glad to be back in summer 2024. Good location, remember that parking nearby is paid. Hotel with spacious rooms, equipped with kitchen with everything you need, large fridge, microwave, very comfortable beds, excellent bathroom with products provided, good intercontinental breakfast with eggs, bacon or sausages or hamburgers, waffles, jam, yogurt, nutella, cereals, and importantly they provide some gluten-free breakfast on request.
