Staff was very welcoming. Room was clean and large. Only negative is reservation said city view and our view was an old building across street that was empty, perhaps receiving some rehab. I guess that was the view of the city, but i inferred city view on reservation suggested our room would have a nice view of the city. Probably my mistake. OUR stay at the grant was very nice. We enjoyed it. People were great.

The US Grant Hotel was perfect. The valet was super fast, the car was always waiting for us at the door. The staff and service was impeccable in every way. Every staff member we delt with was amazing. It was like we were the only people there. The food was very good. The location is in a great area with plenty of things to do for nightlife with in walking distance. 20 min to Sea World, 15 minutes to the Zoo, and 15 minutes to the beach, (At least the one we went to) We will be back for another stay for sure.

The main entrance to the hotel is actually at the back of the property. At the front of the hotel, you have to use your room card to enter. There’s no one standing at the front doors to greet you, open the door, or otherwise welcome you to property. The reception team was friendly and efficient. I recommend the complimentary tour to learn more about the history of the property.

I stayed on a high floor. The rooms are updated and spacious until you reach the bathroom. The bathroom is very small. It’s only suitable for single person use. There isn’t much space for personal items. I had to keep my toiletries bag on top of the toilet. Also the aesthetic of the bathroom didn’t match room. It was as if the room had been remodeled and updated but not the bathroom.

It’s within a 20-minute walk to East Village and Little Italy which worked out well for meal reservations. The valet parking offers in and out privileges, but is really expensive at $65/night. Some of the valet attendants are great. John stands out positively. There was one man that didn’t appear to enjoy his job and wasn’t very pleasant.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel, which is in a great location. We could do without some of the homelessness around the downtown area, but the hotel maintains its elegance in its close surroundings. The room and bathroom were both spacious.

I would like to give a huge shout out to Robert (head of valet) and Jerry (head of security) for their utmost professionlism and courtesy during my time of need. They followed through and made sure that everything was in order. They are top notch individuals.

Robert has such integrity and deserves all the accolades. The US Grant Hotel is lucky to have him since he is definitely a major ASSET to the hotel.

I would give 3.5 stars. As the general hotel star rating goes, this is more 4 than 5 stars. Staff was very helpful and kind. The room was fine, but pillows were not great, and there were some holes in both bottom and top sheets. The toilet was loose and moved when sitting on it. We figured that the location of the hotel would be great for exploring the city a bit, but the direct vicinity of the hotel felt a little "rough". A nearby Mexican restaurant was suggested to us as a great choice, but we left before ordering a meal as it felt more like a nightclub than restaurant. We ended up eating at the hotel restaurant, "The Grant Grill". See review elsewhere.

The customer service at the Grant was impeccable, more than one can ask for at what I consider to be an affordable price. I stayed in room 604 which is located right beside the elevator. 24 hours a day you hear the elevator going up & down. I would recommend avoiding room 604 for this reason. It's only a guess as to why I got this room, but I was there very early before their usual check-in time and I have to believe it is because they rent out this room last due to noise. Wonderful bed, furnishings, water, coffee, etc. Oh yeah, water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent. Beautiful shower and soft towels and robes, but low pressure.

The room was short of slippers. I called and they were delivered right away. Very good service

Convenient location and walking distance to the bay. Spacious room with luxury design. Bathroom with privacy at the back of the room. Very comfy bedding and nice staff. The coffee dispenser was empty in the lobby, will be perfect if refilled it in time.

It was a complete disappointment from the very first step when we arrived at the hotel after a long flight of 3 hours. The girl at the reception said that the room is not ready yet and as soon as it is put in order, they will send us an SMS. Since we were very tired and I had a meeting scheduled for five in the evening, we decided to wait in the hotel lobby and sat down in front of the reception desk. At 4 o'clock, when the hotel guarantees check-in, I went to the reception and was told that the room was still being cleaned. we waited another half hour and received the same answer. I asked to change our room to any one that was ready, but again we were refused because the hotel was full. We waited another 40 minutes, no one approached us, although we sat right in front of the register and there were almost no customers. At the beginning of six, I went to the reception again and was given the keys. When we got up to our room, my husband and I were shocked. Packets of ketchup and mustard were lying on the floor, there were crumbs on the chair and table. There was a huge hole in the middle of the curtain, and behind the dirty and dusty window there was a building structure and a building lift. We also saw in the bathroom that the hotel warns that privacy may be violated by builders who are working on the window and it is better to completely close the curtains. we were disappointed. I rented this room for my birthday, for three days and three days to live in a dirty room with the curtains closed with 100% shading, it was terrible! We returned to the Reception to change our room, but as in previous times we were told that they couldn’t do anything, neither return the money nor change the room... but the disadvantages didn’t end there, the hotel didn’t change bed linen for three days, when we returned to the room in the afternoon, after dinner, it had never been cleaned and we just asked to change at least the towels to clean ones. Also, the hotel simply has a huge problem with changes in water temperature, when switching to warm, the water can just be boiling water and after a minute it’s back to normal temperature. This birthday was ruined, I will not recommend this hotel to anyone, unprofessional staff, lack of concern for their clients, the hotel hides information about the reconstruction and lack of privacy in the room. Don’t waste your money and nerves

Great venue!!! Have a great time and memorable experience each time I come here...
The wait on the lines can be bothersome, but there's always something great to look forward to once you're
inside!!!

Great venue in downtown San Diego. I've been to concerts, parties and fashion shows here. It's versatile for many occasions, although sometimes the acoustics are hard to deal with or maybe the sound guy doesn't always get it right.

Nice, quaint place to kick back and/or rock out, in my and my kids case! We went there to see the band Issues, as well as the 3 other bands playing that night! It was super fun and memorable! I'd go there again.

Saw Mastadon opened by Eagles if Death Metal & Russian Circles. The venue was really superb. It had a lot of character and things to look at. Many different places to get a variety of Libations. All this was just within the concert area. There's a separate restaurant and store attached and it's just a really truly amazing place!

Very calm mall, which is good! Nice atmosphere, no random people walking around. Good stores too. The bathrooms are very clean and so are the food courts. Love the decorations too, love the huge chess game. The levels are a bit confusing, but they do have maps all around (:

I love this place! Every time I go back to San Diego I visit Horton Plaza. It's has great shopping, good food and lots of fun things to do! Plus you are in downtown San Diego which is awesome in its own right. You can park and spend hours there.. I'm not sure if it's still there but there is an amazing noodle spot at Horton Plaza. Highly recommend!

This Westfield Horton Plaza s the only shopping center anywhere near downtown San Diego. The only reason this Plaza gets four stars instead of two is because of the Macy's. I spend many days in San Diego and this Macy's is the only place to shop for whatever you need while downtown....yes I do forget pack some things and need to do a quick shopping run from time to time. If you are in town for tourism or business the Macy's is your shopping savior.

The plaza itself is very nicely remolded and is adjacent to the Westin and across the street from the U.S. Grant Hotel. The plaza also has a movie theater.

Very nice hotel with an attentive staff. Room was great, heated outdoor pool and hot tub were wonderful after a nice day of sit-seeing. The restaurant, however, left a lot to be desired. It does not meet the quality of the hotel itself. Food was overpriced and less than tasty. Sirloin steak was mostly fat, veggies were crawling in spice and salt, but soup as actually a bit better than what one can heat up from a can. My advice: stay in this lovely, well situated, comfortable hotel, but eat in any of the excellent nearby restaurants and don't eat at the hotel.
16.12.2017 Cheryl
Horton Plaza is the heart of Downtown San Diego with some stores and restaurants. This is one less busy shopping mall with a nearby hotels in the area. Now with the Horton Plaza Park, it enhances and beautifies the area. It is great for locals and tourists for shopping, entertainment, and fun. It has been troublesome in the mall and park with the homeless.

I have been to Cafe 21 twice and I had a blast both times. The first time we went in because we heard Frank Sinatra music ? one Friday evening. I had to really great drinks and danced with my honey.
We had brunch today, and the food was next level good. We had the shirt-rib Iron skillet. It was an omelet in a cast iron pan as the "bowl" with cheese, shrot- ribs and sweet peppers on top. The egg was fluffy and delicious on the inside, while the outside had a crust that made it look like it was in a pie crust. The shirt-ribs were so good. They practically melted in my mouth while the outside had a beautiful little crunch to it. The peppers were perfectly cooked and a little crunchy. The cucumber mimosa was different. Certainly a drink to be sipped.
Cafe 21 seems to take pride in putting an original touch on everything including their servers. Thank you Alexis, we had a wonderful brunch.
07.12.2017 Della
Unfortunately I agree with the other negative reviews on here; the food is overpriced for the portions and everything lacks major seasoning or flavor. I usually don't mind when there is no salt and pepper shakers on the table, but I could have definitely used them for my $80 meal(one appetizer, SHARED ONE entree for two people and no dessert). My boyfriend swears there was no alcohol put in our drinks. We only ordered a small pitcher of sangria. Our service was decent but could have been a lot better for the price. The band playing that night wasn't very good... I gave two stars for sake of the decor. I really like decor.
21.11.2017 Melody
Enchanting and delicious restaurant with great service and ecletic ambiance! If you're looking for unique twists and farm to table, this is the place. Their drink menu has everything from a chocolate lovers delight to a ginger & citrus gin fruit cocktail. I enjoyed their Curry Scallops and Truffle Crepe Cake. I was also treated to a live, jazz band on a Wednesday night -- fantastic evening!

In A Nutshell:

-Cafe 21 is "natural" American breakfast restaurant.
-Natural meaning that they use high-quality ingredients.
-Get their seasonal mimosa's especially the raspberry flavor.
-Try their short-rib omelet, which is served on a very hot iron skillet along w/ huge chunks of tender beef, bell peppers, caramelized onions & blue cheese.
-For your free side, I recommend their potato galette, which is a delicious thinly sliced/layered chunk of potato.

Overall, the decor is very nice & the service prompt. Worth coming to share a meal here.
