Holiday Inn Golden Gateway by IHG, San Francisco1 / 30
8.2
San Francisco, 1500 Van Ness Ave (2 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The Holiday Inn Golden Gateway in San Francisco boasts an excellent location, right next to the cable car turnaround, and within walking distance of popular attractions like Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel offers thoughtful Chinese-speaking service, making communication seamless and very friendly for Chinese travelers. Rooms are clean and tidy, with some higher-floor rooms offering city...
Stayed for 4 days, and it was great. The room was spacious and clean, and housekeeping cleaned it daily. It felt very safe, with no homeless people around. The hotel locks its main entrance at midnight, and you can only enter with your room key card. There are plenty of restaurants and a supermarket on the street behind the hotel, making it very convenient. Both bus stops and cable car stops are nearby...
No water provided, had to buy our own. Still haven't received my deposit back after 8 days, even though they said it would take a maximum of one week at check-out.
Excellent hotel in a great location with friendly staff. It’s my second time here for a longer stay than previously and I will definitely return again!
Holiday Inn is always a reliable choice! 👍 The hotel's location is excellent, in one of San Francisco's safer areas. It's also quite close to Chinatown and the Financial District, with convenient public transport access and plenty of supermarkets and pharmacies downstairs. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the front desk service is attentive, and there's even a gym and pool with no resort fee
Pros-Hotel was clean, staff were pleasant, and the parking price of $49 per night was better than many hotels. Cons-Ordered a roll-away for one night and it wasn't in the room when we returned. Called the front desk and was told that they didn't have room for it. In all fairness, they offered us access to a double room, but it was too late and too much of a hassle to change. Very inconvenient in...

San Francisco, 351 Geary St (2 km from centre) 🧭 Map
An older hotel, but the location is excellent: quiet, safe, with good service, and free luggage storage. I had a very good experience; the front desk staff were very friendly and approachable!
The location is excellent, right in the city center. The front desk staff were very friendly and checked me in quickly. The room was clean and comfortable. The only issue was the air freshener they used; it smelled strongly of 'luosifen' (snail noodle soup), which was a bit overwhelming. Everything else was great.
I have to say, the location is great, but unfortunately the facilities at this hotel aren't the best; they're old and not well-maintained. The person at the front desk was incredibly rude. We were given a different room than the one we booked, and when we tried to switch, she refused to help us and said there was nothing available without even checking. It wasn't until we asked to speak to the manager...
The overall location is good and transport links are convenient, but the hotel is a bit old, though it is still clean.
The location is super convenient, right across from Union Square. The room isn't huge but it's enough, though the central AC is old and only goes up to 68°F. Late February in SF is quite cold, and I ended up catching a cold. I had to wear a light down jacket and pile on blankets. The staff were all very polite, and luggage storage was free. Housekeeping cleaned the room daily. Heading east from the...

San Francisco, 85 5th St (in the centre) 🧭 Map
The Pickwick Hotel is in a very convenient location near Market Street, making it easy to get around San Francisco. The rooms are a bit old, but they are clean and comfortable enough for a short stay. The staff were friendly and check-in was smooth. However, the surrounding area can feel a little unsafe at night, so I recommend being careful if you walk around late. Also, the hotel facilities are...
The room was a bit small, but thankfully the location is in a business center, yet it's quiet at night. It has a coffee machine and a particularly large fridge, giving it a feel of a star-rated hotel. My only issue was during check-in; I parked my car in an alley outside the hotel that was a no-parking zone. I was really anxious to drop off my luggage and move the car, but the two Chinese guests in...
The hotel left a mixed impression. The building itself is quite old, which is noticeable throughout the property. The air conditioning in the room was not working, making it very hot and uncomfortable, especially at night. The gym is also in poor condition — the equipment is outdated and needs renovation. Housekeeping was consistent, but the cleaner came every morning at 9:00 AM, which was not always...
The location is fantastic, within walking distance to Union Square and close to the cable car stop. The hotel is a bit old, and personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the wooden smell, but airing out the room helped a little.
The hotel's location is excellent, with a large supermarket and many restaurants nearby. However, the soundproofing in the rooms is poor, and bottled water is not provided, so you'll need to bring your own.
nice and clean but dated rooms. good security with locked doors though!

This hotel is amazing in every way. It is super clean and well located. Best of all, the weekend staff is very helpful and they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Probably some of the nicest and most attentive stafff I’ve seen in any hotel. Especially M.
Good location and friendly staf
It would be nice if there was breakfast.
The interior environment is good, but the room is very small. Although the location is good, there is a social shelter in San Francisco next door. It seems that there are homeless people.
Good Convenient location Paid parking available
The room is well-equipped, clean and tidy. The location is very close to the city center, which is very convenient. The service staff is very nice and helpful in solving various problems. I am quite satisfied with this stay.

Location is so good. However, there are several homeless guys near hotel. Not violent to hit passengers but make the surrounding of hotel a bit messy. Most of staffs are polite and do good in duty of service. Very convenient to reach MRT station , supermarket and Ross for shopping .
The Mosser is an amazing hotel in an excellent location. It was clean and the staff was friendly!
One of the closest hotels to Moscone Center, the location is great for conferences. Basic facilities are decent but a bit old and the space is quite cramped.
The location is very ideal, it’s in the heart of everything you need, trader Joe’s is right next door. The hotel staff are all very kind and friendly. Everything is clean. The street is safe and much better than any of the other areas for similar priced hotels.
I had a really pleasing time as i was pretty exhausted. The room was super clean and i will definitely come back here. Not to mention the staff was super friendly. Thank you guys.
It's not fancy, the rooms are more bedroom sized than hotel room sized, extremeconvenient for the Union Square / Moscone area (and much cheaper than the bigger hotels around there). As long as you're not a hotel snob you'll be fine. Street noise can be a bit loud if you're facing 4th, though.

Good location! Nice breakfast! Quite and clean room.
Small rooms, but otherwise a great hotel. The location is really convenient for getting around downtown with easy access to public transportation. The breakfast was satisfying and saved time and money. Didn't need to park or use the gym, so no opinions there. The rooftop has a spectacular view of the city. Don't let the bad reviews fool you, this is a great find. Yes, the unhoused population is pretty...
Very clean and comfortable. Reasonable price. Convenient location. Sadly, a lot of homeless people in the immediate vicinity. They did not bother us at all, but we didn't go out much after dark.
For a 3-star hotel, this place gets it done without fuss. The manager was able to switch me into a room that had a desk, and it was clean and serviced daily during my stay. The breakfast area and fitness room are small but adequate. If you are arriving by car and not planning on driving during your stay, I'd recommend the Ingka Centres Garage (945 Market Street) which is only 2 blocks away. You can...
Very experience clean and friendly staff
Location close to public transportation but in a not very advisable area of the city. Facilities are fine, but room cleaning service is insufficient. Breakfast service uses single-use plates and cutlery, which is not very eco-friendly.

This was the best value hotel stay we have had in San Francisco in 20+ years of traveling here on business. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and the staff is very friendly and world class. It seemed to us that every employee has worked there for decades! The Club is right in...
The corner king room I stayed in was very comfortable and spacious. My experience at the hotel exceeded my expectations, offering fantastic value for money. I particularly enjoyed the wonderful Happy Hour at Chesty's and the complimentary buffet breakfast. Jeff at Chesty's was incredibly knowledgeable and courteous, truly a professional. Additionally, Jerome Clay was very talented and a great entertainer...
Absolutely a wonderful experience staying at the Marine Memorial Club. The staff is extremely professional, friendly, helpful and the property is outstanding.
Everyone smiled and made me feel welcome; I could not have asked for more. My husband and I had a great stay at Marines' Memorial. Eda was fantastic, and Nikita at the front desk was super helpful. I forgot my cell, and she ran after me! The staff was very nice overall. My experience exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this hotel to friends, family, and colleagues, and I am very likely to return...
From the moment I arrived, I knew this was no ordinary weekend stay. The Marines Memorial Club occupies a singular place in San Francisco — not just geographically, but spiritually. Situated in the heart of the city with Union Square steps away and the Theater District at your doorstep, the location alone earns five stars. Everything you could want from San Francisco is within easy reach, yet stepping...
My stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel provided good value and an interesting experience. I appreciated the friendly atmosphere, which allowed me to relax without feeling hustled. We were very satisfied with the staff’s service and the simple breakfast, which had a small but well-curated selection. While the hotel is a bit dated, the rooms are spacious. It's well-managed, spotlessly clean, and the staff provide warm, friendly service. Plus, breakfast is included. Highly recommended!
Hotel is definitely old and gives an antique look. Room was spacious and comfortable. There was microwave , and cutlery available which is very convenient if you are staying with a kid. We went during New Year’s Eve so check in and parking was quite busy. Couldn’t find a spot in the loading for valet. But the overall stay was affordable, clean, and very nice. The hotel is super cute and looks like the photos.
Great location in the city. Clean new rooms. Hotel and room is great. Just many unhoused people in the area
One small lift for the entire hotel building. Pray it does not break during your stay :)
The staffing was great, vintage old look inside. They did had Valet but will suggest not to leave anything in the car due to homeless all around SF.
Front desk was nice, rooms were clean for the most part, AC unit did it’s job, beds were pretty comfortable for the one night we were there, decent location for food and drinks, would recommend for one or two night trips for the price

Everything about this place was fantastic. The service, the cleanliness, the facilities, etc. The only thing that wasn't perfect was getting back to the hotel at night, because some of the surrounding streets seemed a bit dangerous, but that's not the hotel's fault.
The hotel has a bit of a unique decor and the price is definitely affordable. There are two convenience stores downstairs, a coffee shop, and a CVS and Trader Joe's just a five-minute walk away. It's also very close to bus stops, cable car stops, and the metro. However, the neighborhood isn't the best. Most of the hotel rooms look out onto a wall, which essentially means no window. Good sides: 1. The breakfast is basic but decent. Toast, butter, jam, plain yogurt, eggs, pancakes, and some fruit(apples/oranges), along with coffee. 2. Great location. Downsides: 1. Hotel is in a great location. Room was a little tight, Staff very responsive to needs. Coffee, fruit, pastries and egg bites for breakfast.  Chairs in lobby need to be replaced. A bit worn.
Convenient location for SOMA events. Thin walls, however.
Stayed for two days. I felt uncomfortable on the first day. There were many homeless people around. The breakfast was small and simple. The room and bed were OK. I got used to it on the second day and felt it was OK.
This was a great value for a budget hotel. I have read some negative reviews but that was not my experience. Like you'll read in other reviews, the surrounding streets are rife with homeless people. As in, if you walk around at all then you'll encounter a handful wherever you go. For the location it's not to bad. If your coming for work or have busy days out this isn't that bad. Definitely not so much of a hangout I'm your room if you have downtime. This hotel is adorable. The staff are so kinda and welcoming and it is so clean! We stayed in a king room that was overlooking the bay…it was so beautiful and peaceful. I highly recommend. 😊
The good: excellent location, right near the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge.  Easy access to BART and MUNI.   The bad: customer service was atrocious by one staff member, who made the stay very uncomfortable.  When presented with a problem, he was very unresponsive and accusatory back towards us.  Unacceptable.  For what it's worth, the hotel redeemed itself and better service was offered.  However...
A nice hotel in a beautiful location. It's an old building, which has its charm. No breakfast is available, but they do offer coffee and a cookie in the morning—but for $25, that's just not good. I'd look for something with a decent breakfast next time.
The location is excellent. The reception is very kind and helpful. The hotel provides free coffee, tea and pastries in the morning. Good hot breakfast and nice wine and cheese plates at nights
The staff were wonderful, the rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Would have been 5 stars if it weren’t for the fact that I was continually woken up because I could hear every noise on the street outside and in the rooms next to me and above me. I don’t consider myself I light sleeper. If the hotel had provided earplugs on the nightstand or something this would have helped a lot.

While the neighborhood may look unsettling, once you get inside you'll find an historic gem. Large, clean rooms with updated bathrooms, modern amenities, great connectivity for work, and best of all, a welcoming and always friendly staff. As someone who travels all the time and stays at Hiltons and Marriotts, this place has great character and is safe. Highly recommend!
Great service from all of the staff, who were all super friendly. We got there early in the day and expected to have them hold our bags and return later to check in but they gave us a happy surprise when they said they had a room available for us. One note - the rooms aren't quiet to outdoor sounds. That didn't bother us because were where there for a party which was on property.
Loved the on site parking directly in front. The staff was excellent. I really wanted to go in the heated pool. Check in and check out times are absolutely fabulous.
The front desk staff both AM and PM were sooo amazing! The ambiance is SO FUN, the rooms are modest but the pillows were so comfy and the linens were fresh and clean.
