This is a very reliable hotel. Although rooms are not particularly special in terms of their hard products, they do a great job adding a sophisticated touch. Also, food at Henrietta’s table is very delicious with a lot of local ingredients used.

Nice hotel
Always my top choice

We had high expectations for this hotel, but our experience was disappointing from the start. Although the front desk staff maintained a polite tone, their manner felt distant and snobbish, which immediately gave us the impression that we were not the type of guests they prioritize.

At check-in, no one requested an Amex card for incidentals. Yet the following morning, we received a letter slipped under our door stating that we “must” use an Amex card to receive FHR benefits. After confirming directly with Amex, this is not accurate—the benefits apply as long as the booking is prepaid on Amex Travel with an eligible card. If this rule is actually the hotel’s own internal policy, it should be clearly communicated upfront, not framed as an Amex requirement. More importantly, this should have been addressed professionally at check-in, not through an impersonal letter delivered the next morning.
Apparently the check in staff trainings are lacking.

The room itself was underwhelming. It was small, and the protruding bed frame corners were a constant hazard. The mattress felt worn, the pillows were extremely flat, and basic amenities were not functioning properly. The shampoo dispenser was broken, and we only discovered this in the middle of bathing our young daughter. It took over 20 minutes for assistance to arrive, and the wrong item was brought the first time. The staff member then insisted on entering the bathroom to exchange the bottle fasten to the wall even though our daughter was still inside—which felt unnecessary and intrusive.

The turndown service was, frankly, baffling. We had a reservation for two adults and one child, and the room clearly had two beds, yet the staff came in and left only one bath towel and one pair of slippers. There were no additional slippers in the closet, and the bedside tables had no water or glasses. It made us question who this turndown service was actually meant for. The effort felt incomplete and careless—almost as if the hotel assumed we wouldn’t notice or understand. A service performed halfway is worse than not doing it at all, because it only highlights the lack of attention and sincerity.

The location is convenient for visiting Harvard Square, and the breakfast staff were the one truly pleasant part of our stay—their service and the food were excellent. Parking, however, is steep, though there is a more affordable lot next door.

Overall, for a rate exceeding $300 per night, the experience fell far below expectations. The service inconsistency, communication issues, and basic room comfort problems make it difficult to recommend this hotel. We do not plan to return.

The rooms are spacious and well appointed and the location is convenient to Harvard and to restaurants and shopping. Housekeeping was very attentive the first 2 days of our 5 day stay, but then fell off. At one point, we vacated the room so they could clean only to return to full trash cans and dirty towels. We also had issues with an inability to stream video to our TVs, poor air/heat circulation between the bedroom and living room and a mattress that was not as comfortable as expected.

Upscale hotel with a great location.
Very walkable to Harvard Square.
Relatively busy bars and restaurants as it seems to be a meeting place for many people. Room was nice, though I could definitely hear the person walking (and showering) in the room above me. Other than the noise (and the high price), a nice hotel.

HBS first choice hotel

Room spotless. Coffee maker a bit fiddly but fine when we figured it out. Faucet water pressure a bit weak but shower pressure was fine. Bathroom fairly compact but with good fixtures, not cramped and shower itself quite spacious. Mattress extremely comfortable. Parking $50 a day, but then again this is Cambridge. Dinner at Henrietta’s very tasty with excellent service. Room service quick and efficient with very good food. Overall definitely closer to a 5 than a 4.

This is the first time I've encountered a hotel booking through Ctrip that I couldn't check in. The hotel refused to check me in because they couldn't settle the charges with Ctrip. I waited for over an hour with my child and missed dinner, with no compensation. Ctrip paid the entire bill, but the hotel also charged me the same amount as the room rate as a deposit, plus an additional $50 for incidentals. The next day, they inexplicably charged me another $250. After check-out, none of the charges were promptly refunded or held. I asked the front desk for a receipt, which they promised, but ultimately couldn't provide, so I had to contact Ctrip.

While the hotel was well-maintained, the lack of a washing machine, dryer, kettle, microwave, or vending machine was extremely inconvenient. I couldn't find a place to buy water, and the water heater downstairs wasn't hot enough to even make instant noodles. The refrigerator was incredibly small and locked, requiring a key to open the door.

Parking was $50 a night, and the garage attendant lied about a discount when I parked for a long time, but he couldn't find me. The hotel is no longer the warm place I remembered. The staff are completely indifferent and snobbish.

The hotel is very close to Harvard University, making it very convenient. There are also many restaurants and shopping options nearby. The only thing that detracted from the hotel's appearance was the presence of a few homeless people near Harvard Square. The room was quite spacious, and the service was good during check-in, with acceptable cleaning. However, during check-out, a white woman was very rude and had a very bad attitude, which made a negative impression.

This hotel's location is incredible! It's right in the heart of Harvard Square, with cafes, bookstores, and Harvard campus nearby, making it a super convenient place to stroll. The room was very comfortable, the bed was fantastic, and my room even had a nice view of the Charles River. The front desk guy was very nice and recommended several great restaurants nearby, which turned out to be spotless.

We had breakfast at Henrietta's Table, and the blueberry pancakes were amazing!

Overall, this hotel is perfect for a trip near Harvard or a business trip. The atmosphere is fantastic, and I'd definitely stay here again on my next trip to Boston.

Good beer selection, great prices, fun atmosphere, but the food is below average.

charlie's is a great stand-by. decent bar food, cheap drinks and (generally) good service. i very much appreciate the 2 level set up (3 when the beer garden is open) which allows me to alwayd be able to find a quiet spot, even when they are having events.

Charlie's is a Harvard Square classic. Their patio is a lot of fun in the summer but expect it to get Packed. Service is quick no matter how many people are sardined there & they have heaters for cooler nights so it stays open into the fall. I only knock down stars for the food which is perfectly decent bar food- just nothing to write home about.

Great place for a leisurely weekend brunch. Friendly service, ample seating, and fantastic selection of favorite breakfast items. Our server was quite cheerful and eager to make changes requested.

Despite being very busy up front, they were able to order and grab my carryout in a very timely manner ?

Ew. Been to a lot of IHOPs, and this one is worse than most. Bad service, gross food. You're in Harvard Square, go somewhere cool.
21.09.2017 Morgaine
You guys I LOVE IHOP but these hours are TERRIBLE. What if I need 4am pancakes? What if I need to be up early and could really use some 6am pancakes? If y'all are gonna be open until 4am anyway, you might as well make it all night! Besides this, the service is great. I will be coming back.

Cozy place, but super busy. Our waitress mostly ignored us for 30m and was kind of rude. We had a light vegetarian dinner, which was well prepared. Pro tip: pounce on a table if you see one empty, don't wait for it to be cleared or you'll lose it.
29.10.2017 Alexander
Typical bar ambience. However, the chicken wings we ordered were dry and we only got them after we reminded the waitress as she had forgotten our order. The draft is quite good though but the cocktails are not more than standard
24.09.2017 Brett
Simple review: I got the hummus platter and some beer which were both prompt despite a full house and outside. Very flavorful and perfect price point! 10/10 will go again!
13.09.2017 shawn
First of all that 3.8 stars is hella generous! I came in with a small group of friends, all with realistic expectations on to enjoying a good lunch. We read a few reviews online and this seemed like a solid choice. We sat down and placed our order. The food came out pretty quickly, which was not surprising due to the restaurant being empty except for a few bar patrons. So say it as simple as possible, we all ordered different food, but all had something in common. There was absolutely no flavor. I was so disappointed. This was my first meal of the day due to missing breakfast and it wasn't pleasant at all. To top it off we expressed our concerns to our waitress who apologized but no member of management came to discuss the topic further with us. I just hope this feedback can inspire some change so this establishment can grow and make positive change.
21.07.2017 Andrea
It been while since I gone to Grendel but today I went to enjoy the outside seating and to enjoy their food. I had spinach pie but when I ate it something did not feel right. I found a huge piece of plastic that I took out of my mouth. I told the waiter who apologies but did not really do anything at all. When we got the bill they charged us for full price even when I did not eat all of it due t the plastic I found and not taking a chance their was more. They totally lost my business
