Reviews
Cons: Breakfast is $17, the bed wasn't as comfortable as I would have hoped (it was medium firm; I love plush), there is no microwave in the room.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. I choose this location every time I go to Greensboro
Been staying here for a while. I considered this place home when in Greensboro. Now I need a new hotel.
I ordered DoorDash tonight, as I often do while working at my computer in my hotel room as I have done here many times in the past. Tonight, they stopped my Dasher and wouldn’t allow him to complete his delivery. Instead, they insisted that he leave it with them and I come down and get it. When I did, I asked “When did this become a problem?” Then the front desk clerk told me that “It’s a security thing. Most hotel won’t allow room deliveries”. Now please, reader, bear in mind that I live in hotels. I’m in hotels more than the front desk clerk who tried to buffalo me, I bet. And of all the IHG hotels in the Carolinas, this is the ONKY ONE that has ever stopped my Dasher. For this reason I am moving on… this hotel has lost my business, not because they stopped my Dasher, but because the lady downstairs lied to me, or spoke on a subject she was woefully unprepared to render a statement on.
This isn’t the greatest property… it’s old and funky and has been remodeled way too many times, and it shows. Often, one of the two elevators doesn’t work. Sometimes the elevator’s condition lasts for weeks.
I can accept all that though. What cannot accept is dishonesty from a vendor. I’m the customer and they tried to BS me. And if they’ll BS me, Diamond Elite and a regular, they’ll BS you too. Consider your options before lodging here. This is my last night. I’ll still be a DoorDash customer, though.
Update… despite an attempt by a poor “manager” to discredit my review, it seems to have stood the test so far. I live in hotels, and have been in 7 more IHG properties since my last stay here, and not one prohibits food deliveries to the room. One said they’d ask the dasher for a room number and verify, but the rest allow food deliveries without any fuss at all.
It’s a shame that this “manager” tried to discredit me instead of backing the truth and apologizing for their ridiculous policy and speaking to an overly-zealous employee. Now I’ll have to go to IHG about this with my documentation and prove the manager is a liar.
Warning to anyone thinking of staying in this hotel… the manager is a liar and I suggest you think long and hard before committing to stay here. There are many fine properties in Greensboro… this is NOT one of them.
….”Sorry sir, there is a lighting situation and it’s not safe to swim”…..
Attached are photos of the pool taken at midnight. FYI the international space station can see this pool at night as it is so well lit. The staff is lazy and simply doesn’t want to deal with people using their utilities. Terrible avoid so many better hotels that stay open to ten or whenever.
**************UPDATE*********************
Due to the response below:
"The pool can not be open for night swimming per the county's regulations on the amount of exterior lighting needed. "
North Carolina requires that public swimming pools illuminated for night use must have sufficient lighting to clearly see the main drains and the deck area. I even checked out15a ncac 18a .2524 lighting and ventilation which again states:
(a) Artificial lighting shall be provided at all pools that are to be used at night, or when natural lighting is insufficient to provide visibility in the pool area.
(b) Lighting fixtures shall be of such number and design as to illuminate all parts of the pool, the water, the depth markers, signs, entrances, restrooms, safety equipment and the required deck area and walkways.
So again my original point stands. Sounds like you just don't want to deal with your customers.
"There are also over half of the rooms facing the pool area who do not need to be disturbed during night hours."
Night hours? 7:30Pm during the summer with the sun still up is "Night Hours"? Disturbing guests? Why even have the pool? Why not fill it with stand, put three employees out there surrounding the area to verbally "SHUSH" people as they walk by.
Every hotel and I mean EVERY hotel which includes Countless Holiday Inn's keeps it open until 10:00PM and even then we are allowed later hours as long as civil volumes are observed.
Here's a thought, if someone is loud, rowdy, and being difficult, you dismiss them. If they are a hard working guest looking to relax and my god use the Hotel facility, maybe just let them. This was covered in Hospitality 101 I am sure you remember.
"If you wanted to night swim, you could have chosen a hotel that may have had that available. "
That would have been every other hotel but you, but unfortunately the Greensboro Holiday in is run by draconian Kevin Raper who really needs to learn the meaning of Hospitality. This isn't a big ask and the fact that your hotel is the ONLY one that does this in the hundreds I have visited leads me to believe you simply don't want to provide the effort to actually provide a service. Maybe you miss the days of doing nothing and blaming covid to actually do your job.
Sad.
I really would recommend this. I felt safe as a mom by herself.
