Velara Hotel in Tashkent

An extremely poor stay at this Muslim hotel; Chinese tourists should be very cautious.

This was a hotel with a very poor overall experience. It is indeed a Muslim hotel, but this is barely mentioned on the website. The crucial restriction that "opposite-sex friends are not allowed in the room" is hidden deep in the description; you have to click "more" about three times to see it, and most people would never notice it.

Despite local laws prohibiting hotels from refusing accommodation based on marital status, this hotel still insists that only married couples can stay together, and even casual friends of the opposite sex are not allowed in the room. Upon check-in that evening, I was immediately and severely offended by the front desk's attitude and these hidden rules, and cancelled my booking for the next four nights that same night.

Even more outrageous, the hotel's communication was extremely passive; they completely ignored my requests and continued to charge me for four nights (including so-called "taxes"). I left my contact information, but the hotel did not proactively contact me to resolve the issue, nor did they offer any refund or compensation.

My overall impression is: this is a hotel with a severe lack of transparency, extremely unfriendly to guests, and blatantly exploitative practices. A special reminder to Chinese tourists: If you are traveling with friends, or do not want to "find hidden pitfalls" in the deeply concealed terms and conditions, please choose this hotel with extreme caution.

Even though local law no longer allows hotels to reject guests based on marital status, this hotel still insists on very strict rules and does not allow opposite-sex friends to come up to the room. On the night of check in I felt seriously offended by the attitude at the front desk and by these hidden rules, so I canceled the remaining four nights immediately.
What made it worse was the hotel’s passive and unhelpful communication. They still charged me for all four nights (including so-called “tax/fees”), even though I did not stay, and they did not contact me to discuss any solution or refund, despite having my contact details.
In my personal experience, this hotel is not transparent with its information and is very unfriendly to guests. I strongly warn other Chinese travelers: if you are traveling with friends of the opposite sex, or you don’t want to dig through several layers of hidden text to discover strict rules, please think very carefully before booking this hotel.
