Luxor Boutique Hotel Phu Quoc in Phu Quoc Island

This hotel was offered to us by american express as a five star hotel. I am never trusting amex again for hotels. THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL BY ANY MEASURE. the first warning should have been that there is no phone numbers or websites available to reach their from desk. Once you are there, you will see that the front desk is understaffed. And they will rarely answer the phone. Their lobby has no air conditioning. Even our room had no real working air conditioning. This is extremely uncomfortable in a place with such severe humidity. Even the bedrooms at the much cheaper Hawaii Resort down the street have better air conditioning. The bathroom in the room has no air conditioning whatsoever, and has very bad lighting. The beach in this part of town is not clean and the water is pretty polluted, as the island lacks proper water treatment and water regulations anyway. The hotel food is not protected against insects, flies, mosquitos and ants freely roam the restaurant area, their entire restaurant area should be enclosed in air conditioning, so insects don't get to touch the food. Their service staff tries their best, but the hotel is just not there yet. Also don't stay in the 4th floor, their staff and service is on the 5th so early in the morning you will hear them drag and drop stuff around on the floor slab above you. Save money and do your best to stay at the Peak, the windham , the raddison or the vinpearl on the northern area. Even the southern tip of the island near Sun world seems to have newer properties. Their pool and bungalow areas are very appealing and well landscaped.
