Milana Beach Resort & Spa Hotel in Phu Quoc Island

My wife and I stayed at the Milana Beach Resort & Spa for four nights in January 2026. It is a hotel that seems to have had a beautiful past and potentially has a great future. Currently, it is in a state of disrepair and in need of some dramatic remedial work to restore itself.

Good points:

Good beachside location away from the main population centres (if that is what you want). The beach view is south-southeast rather than west, so if you want to see the famous Phu Quoc sunset, you will need to go up or down the road a bit.

Reasonable value for money.

Good breakfast, with egg station, a variety of delicious fruits (dragon fruit, passion fruit, pineapple, melon etc) and various Vietnamese hot dishes, as well as western fare.

Reception staff very helpful with good English. Restaurant staff English was mixed.

Areas for development:

Overall, they don’t seem to know how to prioritise what the staff do. A woman in the garden was sweeping a few leaves up against a tree, when our lake view from the room had a pile of rubbish on the opposite shore, including broken tiles and discarded toilets (!). Priority: go and move it and stop anyone adding to it.

The lake itself is dirty and has a pipe coming from the hotel area that is creating a slick of filth on the surface. The sea has plastic bags floating in it near the hotel jetty. The beach has a lot of rubbish that floats up every night on the tide and is stranded on the beach. Think single flip flops, plastic cans of Mobil oil, broken polystyrene and plastic, plastic, plastic. The staff seem to try to clear it up, but it is an ongoing task, making early morning beach strolls a bit grim. To be fair, this is a wider problem in Vietnam, with its single-use plastic culture for coffee.

A footbridge over part of the lake has old, rusting bicycles strapped to its sides. It looks like they were dredged from the water and left there (although some people might find it charming, I guess).

Room insulation is not great. You can hear the people talking in the adjoining room quite clearly. We were woken early one morning by the sounds of next-door guests leaving for a tour or the airport. Bring ear plugs.

Next to the kitchen is a coconut cutting area. An unattended machete is left on a surface around waist height to a small child.

The “spa” is a hut open on all sides, with two treatment beds for massage. No privacy, should you want it. There isn’t any other spa facility.

We were told a pool guard was on duty during the day. We never saw one. Not important to us, but maybe to parents of smaller children.

There are not enough sun loungers for the number of guests. We counted ~24 loungers and only 14 cushions to put on them (they are hard, slatted wood).

We had to call reception one evening to say that our room had not been made up during the day. It was done straight away after our call.

Overall

During our four day stay, there were efforts to remediate some things, but the general feeling is that more rigorous management is required to restore this tired hotel to what it could be. Great potential.

A few hundred yards up the road is Green Bay Resort & Spa. This is a beautiful hotel in a different league – it is around ten times the price we paid at Milana (source: Booking.com). You can have lunch or dinner in their restaurant and if you pay VND2,000,000 (US$76), you can use their beach facilities and pool and get a VND1,000,000 rebate on their restaurants. It was worth it, from our perspective.

Very disappointing stay. We originally booked a 6-night stay at this mentioned 4-star hotel. We were so disappointed because it did not meet our expectations at all and ended up staying only 4 nights and had to move to another hotel for the last 2 nights, because we were so unhappy. We did not receive a refund from the hotel for the last two nights because we wanted to leave early due to the poor service. At least we received a voucher for food/beverages/spa treatments. That was the only good service we experienced.

I would never go back there.

The beach is nice, the place is noisy, the restaurant is mediocre. Infrastructure - inadequate, weak and uncomfortable.
