Hiep Thanh Resort in Phu Quoc Island

On arrival we where taken to a dark room not the bungalow I had booked after over an hour we finally got offered the bungalow we had originally booked but could only book for 7 nights not the 18 nights we had wanted but in the end this was a blessing as the room was ok but bathroom was old and in need of renovation and the bed was very uncomfortable we could not sit outside due to the amount of mosquitoes ( this wasn’t a problem at any of the other hotels we stayed in after we left this one. The beach was nice but water was murky and smelt so we walked south along the beach for 10 mins and the water was clear there, location is good.
We locked out key in our room one evening and returned to resort just after 10:30pm reception was locked and there was 3 phone numbers to call but all 3 did not have WhatsApp so I had to switch on data roaming to call 1st no answer 2nd number a man answered and said ok but we waited 20 mins and no one came so called again spoke to the same man who said ok again and put the phone down after 5 mins a young girl came out of the house I explained with google translate what had happened and she went back into the house then after a while and lots of shouting from the house a young boy came out and took us to our room and opened the door for us
The breakfast is terrible at the resort cold tea and coffee and the same small selection of food each day with all the fabulous fruit on the island the hotel offered bananas and melon we only went twice but did look in each morning to see if there was anything different on offer but there never was
Upon checkout we where told we owed money for the complementary water I said we had only had the free water the receptionist said there are 3 sizes of water small bottles you pay for medium bottles are free and large bottles you pay for we had used 4 small bottles it was only a small amount but we where not told this on arrival and no where in the room explained this the receptionist was unhelpful the whole time we where there and was rude ( the only rude and unhelpful person we met during our 3 wks in Vietnam) other hotels we stayed at the staff where so friendly and helpful and actually looked happy to see you the girl at this resort really let the hotel down and one of the reasons I would never stay here again and would not recommend as we went on to stay in 6 different hotels in Phu Quoc and all where better cleaner and had 24hr reception with the friendliest staff we have ever met
