Goldener Greif in Kitzbuehel

We have been coming to Kitzbühel for ever and I am the 4th generation in my family to come and spend my holiday here. Our favorite hotel in the city is the Goldener Greif, and this is where I stay with my family for years : a family-owned business, a dream-place, a stay we are dreaming of during the whole year. My grand parents used to play golf with the grand parents of Maria Harisch. But for the very first time in my life, when I arrived by car 2 days ago, everything went wrong and I lived THE WORS EXPERIENCE EVER : - At 8 :15pm when we were still on our way to Kitz, a young lady from the hotel called me in order to know what time we would arrive. I thanked her for her call and answered we would be there 15mn later - At 8 :30pm, we arrived (2 cars for the family). The street to the hotel was closed, we could not reach the hotel. And nobody had warned us about it. I called the hotel back to ask for advise : The young lady was not able to help us and yet, I speak German fluently. She did not say a word about not having informed us about the closed street. Eventually, we found another way to reach the parking of the Greif… but the barrier of the parking, just in front of the hotel, went down without an audible nor visual signal and in order to prevent our brand new car to be damaged, my husband moved the car forward. Of course, the car was damaged. Nobody was outside the hotel to welcome us or to open the barrier for us, even if had called 5mn earlier to say we were arriving. Nobody helped us to carry our numerous luggage (we stay for 2 weeks at the Greif). There was mud everywhere on the parking lot, with holes in the ground. We eventually arrived to the reception. - The young lady was there, with not a word to apologize. I began to cry. She said « she was sorry » but asked me yet to take the time to complete a form with « the name and details of the person who shares my room » and the same for the other room. I answered that « this person » was my husband, same last name, same adress and that everything was already in the computer for years and that the only thing I wanted at that point was the keys of the rooms of my family. - Then another young lady arrived. She did not introduce herself, she did not say a word such as « Guten Abden », « Wilkommen » … She said she was not responsible of anything : she was not the person driving our car, the barrier was not the one of the hotel, and she could not know the street was closed when the young lady called us, 1 hour earlier. This is a lie. We later learnt that the street was closed for hours because of the organization of a huge party in all the city. - We had to carry our luggage to our rooms by ourselves. Nobody sent us a message nor a glass of Sekt to apologize nor anything like an attempt to improve our customer experience. I arrived for a typical week's stay on a Saturday evening. After leaving my suitcase in my room and turning off the radiator as the room was too hot I headed out immediately to find some food. The dining options diminish in Kitzbuhel after 9pm... I forget how noticeable it was when I checked in but when I returned to the hotel I could hear pounding music from the Greif Restaurant and Bar - this is not considered part of the hotel but is located in the same building together with a small casino. It's accessible from the hotel via a sturdy double-glazed door on the ground floor. As I walked up the stairs to my room on the fourth floor someone opened that door and a brief, frightening full-blast entered the sedate hotel. I read a magazine for a while with the windows open, slightly distracted by the music drifting in. I tried to go to sleep at midnight and realised even with the windows closed I could still hear and feel the music. I wouldn't describe it as loud but it was surprisingly annoying as there's both the mid frequency range and also a pounding bass (in the 40-60Hz range) which is probably being transmitted through the building's structure. The "DJ" must have some magic dial to turn this bass on and off increasing the psychological annoyance factor. He also has his own microphone to add to the charm. I went for a walk around the hotel at 1am to assess the situation and could hear the music getting louder as I walked down the spiral staircase. The music was still going but I could see staff through the glass door tidying up suggesting something might be ending. The hotel desk isn't staffed late at night but there's a number to call at the sister hotel. I noted that and went back to my room. I was in two minds whether to call them and ask for a room or hotel change as it seemed difficult to imagine they could achieve that at 1-3am. I decided my deadline was 1:30am to call to discuss the options. The final Robbie Williams track thankfully played at 1:26am and a civilised peace returned to the hotel. I mentioned this the next morning to the hotel and was told there's a 1am noise curfew but this also includes some variable time after that to wind down. I was assured this was a Saturday night phenomena which I viewed with some scepticism but this turned out to be accurate, fortunately. I had read a small number of reviews before booking that mentioned noise as a problem. It's always difficult to tell how sensitive the reviewer is, which rooms are affected and to what degree. though. As for the rest, the hotel is a smart-looking traditional Austrian hotel, breakfast was good, particularly the freshly made scrambled eggs supplemented with smoked salmon. There's heated boot racks and a lot of space in the boot room for ski equipment. The location is very central, good for restaurants and a short walk up the hill (just under 10 minutes with equipment) to the main Hahnenkammbahn gondola. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
