Lion Hotel in Borovets

Location was ok but shuttle bus only ran until 5pm then after it was taxis or walking only. Hotel on arrival reception and lobby looked lovely, clean and modern. Reception staff were not very pleasant upon check in. Bar staff and servers extremely rude, got the impression we were annoying them when we asked for ice to accompany the drinks we bought. We were half board so breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast was mediocre alot of cold foods I.e fresh fruit cereal. Hot food was not hot it was luke warm. Only had breakfast 3 times in the week. Dinner we had to eat out almost every night as it was the same cold pizza and cold chips every night. We tried to have a meal at the lobby bar which we paid for and the service was a disgrace. We ordered for 4 people two meals came and we awaited the other two for a further 45 mins. Turns out server forgot about us. When the other two meals arrived albeit it was two toasties with chips they were stone cold and when I told the server they were too cold to eat she shrugged her shoulders at me and said ok reheat I said no remake please. She refused initially and asked me if I wanted the manager to which I said yes if thats the only way. She returned 5 minutes later saying we will remake I said do I need to speak to the manager then? She said no we fix. She was extremely rude and unhelpful. When the food finally arrived 1 hour after ordering it was brought by manager who was also very dismissive. I told her we were unhappy about the servers attitude and she said she would talk to her. I am not in the business of running places down and I alway factor in how busy it is etc. In this instance it was not overly busy the server just forgot to collect our food from kitchen. The rooms are very very basic and weren't overly clean. The cleaners did come every day and changed beds, towels and bins but did not hoover, clean bath etc. The bath also looked as though it has been painted because after takin a bath I was covered in flakes of white paint and the bath was patchy upon inspection. The pool jacuzzi and sauna were also included and we were excited about using these after a day of skiing. The pool was ok, the jacuzzi wasnt warm and the sauna was lovely. There are no kettles or coffee facilities in the room and you cannot have tea or coffee apart from at breakfast, even at dinner they turn off the coffee and hot water. I have to say overall we were very disappointed with this hotel and definitely wouldn't return. If anyone is coming skiing in this area I recommend tou stay at hotel Rila it is right beside the ski slopes and shops bars restaurants etc.
