Courtyard Santiago Las Condes in Santiago

Worse than your standard Marriott Courtyard in my experience as a Titanium Elite. Courtyard is my favourite value for money Bonvoy brand. I’ve stayed at Courtyards from Lima, to South Korea, to Cambodia that have upgraded me to excellent rooms/suites and have been quiet, clean & offered cold AC. This experience compared negatively & I would stay at a different Bonvoy in town, like AC or W, where I have had better experiences, before I stay here again.

1. The rooms were rather noisy—not the typical quiet that I’ve come to expect from the Courtyard brand. This was partly because the doors were constructed with a large gap between floor & door, so sound from the hallways will travel in easily. Also note that, unlike most Courtyards (which are more of a business/efficiency brand), this hotel attracts families who have small children. That adds to the noise.

2. The bed was the worst quality of any bed at a Courtyard hotel that I’ve stayed at globally. If you’re alone it’s decent. But it you’re sleeping with someone else you’ll feel like you’re riding a rollercoaster each time that person moves in their sleep.

3. The AC in the hotel room worked but didn’t get cold enough to help me feel the slight chilliness I like to feel to sleep well.

4. Breakfast is crowded & oddly inefficient. I was informed that my breakfast was free when I checked in, and the breakfast control person with the list also saw that. Yet I was brought this bill. No one spoke enough English to explain to me why I was brought this bill. The whole process was inefficient & made the already not great & super crowded/loud breakfast area more stressful.

5. This hotel has the dumbest elevators I have ever seen anywhere in my life. For this reason alone I don’t think it deserves anyone’s money 😂 Just look at the attached pictures… what were they thinking?!? To make it worse, these elevators arrived very slowly & seemed always to be crowded with other guests. So the whole elevator situation was a mess & was indicative of broader problems with this stay.

6. Despite being Titanium Elite & requesting an upgrade weeks in advance, I was put in a very tiny room (so small that it was hard to open my suitcase in). The “upgrade” consisted of being on a higher floor. Every Courtyard I’ve stayed at has had a big enough supply of nicer rooms for elite members that I have not been in a room that small at a Courtyard at any point, even when booking in holiday season. Of course upgrades are a lucky perk, not guaranteed. But just know that you’ll probably be less likely to receive that perk here than at many other Courtyards globally.

But I’m giving it a 3 because staff were kind & they didn’t ask any questions when I decided to bolt out of here after my first night of a 4 night stay. Instead, they kindly cancelled my room & refunded the last 3 nights with no penalty. I then moved to the W Hotel, which was worth every penny extra. The W & the AC Hotel in Santiago have, in my experience, had cold AC, quiet rooms, have been more respectful of elite status & rewarded that with meaningful upgrades, and don’t have elevator situations that are this moronic 😂
