Hotel Oceanic in Vina del Mar

We are a couple, traveling the world, and we are in our 60’s. This hotel was disappointing for a variety of reasons but first let me give you some background.

We stayed during late February so off season for the beaches. We stayed (4) nights and it was over US $250/ night. For us, that’s a lot of money. The room we booked was beautiful… unfortunately that’s NOT THE ROOM WE GOT.

Let’s start with some good things because some things were good. Although it wasn’t the room we booked you did have a view of the ocean over a very large bird pooped roof. But we could hear the ocean… and that was nice. The room was worn and old which I will talk about in a minute but I do believe it was clean. Now that’s a plus. The cleaning staff works hard every day and for that I was grateful. The room comes with a breakfast, that they deliver to your room every morning and it was good. More about this in the bad section but the breakfast was fresh, included for us scrambled eggs, guacamole, yogurt, a fresh fruit, coffee and fresh squeezed juice a different one each day, ham and cheese and bread and rolls. It was filling and fresh and we looked forward to it.
Now the cons. When you check in you must pay. Which seems unusual and it was close to $1,100 for 4 nights Sunday - Wednesday offseason. The room was not the one I booked, which was amazing looking. This was a small room, the bed was uncomfortable, the sheets and blanket looked very old, the towels were so old and dingy they matched the sheets. The chairs were old. It had a mini bar which we didn’t use. The pressure in the bathroom was good to both flush and for showers but everything was old. It was our expectation we would get the room we booked and this view looked way out over a sea gull popped roof. The tv had no stations you had to use your own subscriptions or you didn’t get TV.
I am gluten free because I have an allergy and I was informed there would be an extra $3 charge each day. I find that very cheap when I am paying over $250 a night!
Honestly, I’ve traveled all around the room and I would say it was probably worth about $65 a night. I was disappointed and when you go to check out they send someone to your room to verify you didn’t steal anything or take from the mini bar. W
