Hotel de Sevigne in Paris

My partner and I booked our stay at Sévigné Hotel through Airbnb. Before arriving, we had already paid everything that was listed through the Airbnb booking platform. At no point during the booking process was there any mention of an additional city tax that would need to be paid upon arrival. To our surprise, when we checked in, we were told at reception that we had to pay a city tax. Had this been clearly stated in the Airbnb listing, it would not have been an issue, but the lack of transparency left a poor first impression.

Unfortunately, the experience continued to decline throughout our stay. Room service and housekeeping were disappointing. While the room was cleaned, basic hospitality standards such as replacing towels with fresh ones daily were not consistently met. For a hotel in such a great location, we expected a much better level of service and attention to detail.

The biggest issue came when my partner politely asked reception if a late checkout would be possible. We simply requested to stay until around 2:30–3:00 PM. At no point during that conversation was there any mention of a charge. Had we been informed that there would be a fee, we could have made a decision at that time. Instead, when we went to check out, the receptionist demanded €45 for the late checkout.

What made this particularly frustrating was not just the fee itself, but the way it was handled. We have stayed at numerous hotels, including many five-star properties, and have often been granted reasonable late checkouts as a courtesy when available. If the hotel was fully booked, a simple and professional response would have been: “Unfortunately, we cannot offer a late checkout today.” Instead, it felt as though every interaction was focused on extracting additional money from guests.

The attitude of the receptionist made the situation even worse. Rather than feeling welcomed or valued as guests, we felt like an inconvenience. Good hospitality is about creating a positive experience and making guests feel comfortable and appreciated. Sadly, that was not the case here.

What could have been a pleasant stay in Paris ended on a very disappointing note. The lack of transparency regarding additional charges, poor housekeeping standards, unexpected fees, and unfriendly customer service turned what should have been a positive experience into a frustrating one.

I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it based on our experience.

Very good location, tidy rooms. We've enjoyed our stay in the hotel.
BUT! They will charge you €150,- as deposit for - i think - the minibar and as an assurance for not stealing anything out of the rooms. Understandable. But it takes A LONG TIME and several emails to get it refunded. Two weeks after our visit, nothing is transferred back. They promised it will be charged back at the moment we'd checked out. I big lie. They don't.
Hopefully they'll refund SOON.

Very small room in very small hotel with very small elevator. Add to that fire alarm at 1 AM because someone took a shower. And let’s not forget the WiFi which was so bad you could not even read email. Paid over 300 euro for this room …
