Hôtel du Square d'Anvers in Paris

Horrible hotel. We arrived, and it was immediately apparent at the reception desk that it was a dilapidated, poorly maintained building. The receptionist did her job but wasn't particularly welcoming. The room was a shock. Old, dirty, with stained and dusty sheets and filthy carpet. The bathroom stank and was on the verge of collapse. The toilet, sink, and bathtub were filthy. The toilet flush was falling apart immediately. All the edges of the pipes and plumbing fixtures were brown and disgusting. There was no stopper in the bathtub. The bathtub was yellow with a crack. It looked nothing like the photos on the website. There was a very old, dirty, dusty fan, and no air conditioning. There was nothing else: no kettle, no tea or coffee, and hardly any toiletries. At first, we thought, "Oh well, it's only for a few days," but as soon as we stepped outside, we realized we never wanted to go back. We immediately decided to book another hotel. We went back to get our things and moved. Out of sheer misery and stress, we forgot to take photos. The receptionist didn't react at all to our departure. He didn't care; he thought it was fine. We travel frequently and aren't picky; you get what you pay for, we realize that. For a two-star hotel in Paris, we don't expect much, but this was truly awful. The other hotel we booked was in roughly the same neighborhood, clean, the same price, and three stars. Much better. We're glad we left here; otherwise, it would have ruined our vacation.
