We spent 4 days ( 3 nights ) in this hotel via a Travelbird booking. We booked this hotel since it was published as a 4 star facility. Nevertheless locally ( neither in the tourist info center ) these stars are mentioned nowhere. This is our experience during our stay. For the place. Willingen is a nice little town with: many hiking facilities, large leisure options, good infrastructure, large nbr of horeca places and nice little shops. The time of the year ( middle october ) is very calm and in the weekend there is an explosion of visitors. For the hotel. Typical german cosy building, good central location, nice temporary arrival parking facility, parking at 5 mins walk ( uphill ! ). Reception at arrival was friendly and with detailed explanation. The room we first got ( n°118 ) was a total disaster. A lot of steps, doorways, corridors before we got to the room. This room felt like a kind of improvisionised place to hide away 3rd class guests. Dirty carpet, strong tobacco odor, damaged ceiling, worn armchairs, neon light tubes.., 30 years old bathroom, glass entry door(???) and some kind of ventmotor snorring all night long. As I wrote , something like a 1 star bigcity restroom . We refused to settle for this arrangement, asked for another room and the receptionist fixed us ( in a very decent way ) another room the day after. The new room ( n° 210 ) was a clean, cosy and correct one with decent acces to the welness. We upgraded from 3rd class tot 1st class. Only remark to give is the awfull pillows. They represent nothing and the spare ones in the trunk were dirty. The roomdoor was damaged / forced a time ago and was never replaced. In the room the wifi was 90% off the to time not accesible. For the catering. The breakfast was basic OK but diner was wrong. Felt like mass kitchen production. Poor quality, cheap ingredients, not tasteful and (even for german terms ) complete lack of finesse. I even wonder if anything at all was prepared freshly in the kitchen. Sure all was catered in and then warmed up locally. The service in the restaurant felt very amateuristic and cold. So bad that on our third night we decided to eat out at the Indian place ( Taj Mahal 100m down the road ). The wellness ( sauna, turkish bath, yacuzzi and tanning bed ) was basic , clean and well functioning. Only outdated again ( a ridiculous tablecloth on a unstable table for instance ) poor interior and no drinking facilities ( no fontain , nothing ! ) . CONCLUSION We did not have a nice hotel experience for a wouldbe 4 star accomodation. My advice to the hotelmanagement/owners is to strongly reconsider the total experience and to invest on the look and the feel. Provide a decent diner to the guests, repair what's damaged and get this room n°118 out of the proposal.
