We were here largely to visit Zollverein and were not aware of the hotel's link to mining, which was a massive bonus. Really well-preserved features and the pinhead outside was real bonus (the car park of yet-to-be-sold new Mercedes cars less so) Excellent breakfast each day. Dinner on our first night was acceptable, bit we went across the road to the open air cafe/bar on our second night.

Quiet location. It would be quite nice if restaurant is open but currently nothing there. If you are looking for somewhere quiet, a good place to go.

Style happens in its greatest form at Alte Lohnhalle! Haven't felt so good for a while. Good taste and delicate manners. That might be the life one should live!

Small hotel in an interesting historical building, breakfast and room is ok.

friendly staff, though a bit reserved; clean rooms, good food; very interesting, as it used to be a mine and you can still see where workers hung their clothes at night. I was at a two-day conference here, and everything ran smoothly
