Clean rooms, good breakfast with a great selection! Only the location on a very busy street and poorly insulated windows aren't so great.

Room is too loud and the hotel was not able to change the room for me.

Gave us the wrong room type (double instead of twin) and couldn't change it until next day, even though booked 6 months in advance. Cleaners woke us up 5 hours before checkout time on last day which was odd. Otherwise a fine hotel.

The hotel is very centrally located, just a few meters from the pedestrian zone. Unfortunately, because of this, people from the drug scene also hang around in the area, but that's sadly the case in every major city. At the hotel itself, however, there are absolutely no problems. I stayed there during Essen spiel. The mini-fridge in the rooms do not cool anything at all and might as well not have existed. Since I have diabetes and need to keep my medicine cold, it was an issue. Luckily, the staff accomodated my needs by keeping my medicine in the fridge at the lobby bar. In general, we had a nice stay. Only unpleasant moment was breakfast time. Compare to the number of room, breakfast saloon is very small. Long queue for a coffee (front of ONLY ONE coffee machine). There is not enough place to sit and get breakfast. It might be as a reason of peak season (Christmas time). However, it was still unpleasant moment.

Great location, just by Essen central station and the Christmas markets a short walk. And it has a small 24 hour gym. But I had noisy neighbours upstairs that persisted throughout, and the breakfast is very basic.

Super quite rooms and with curtains shut the difference between day and night is unnoticed. A little disappointment on the cleanliness. Some personal juices from previous guest were missed by the cleaning staff. Told this at the checkout but no response.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Ibis Styles Hotel in Gelsenkirchen while we were in town to watch the HSV match — and it turned out to be a great choice for the trip. The location is super convenient, right across from the main train station, so getting to the stadium and around the city was a breeze.
