Good, only far from the main city

The staff were absolutely fantastic, after an overbook by ******* the staff went above and beyond for us as a family with two children. Would highly recommend and have saved this as a hotel we will be staying at in the future

Beautiful location, very functional for congress or other business meetings. The rooms are huge and clean. The breakfast has a wide range of options. Even for lunch and dinner there were vegan options, although the steak was delicious. Near the hotel there is an incredible park with wildlife and hiking areas.

The location is excellent. The room is large and well-equipped. The only drawback is that the sound insulation is not very good. I was woken up by the sound of the door closing next door in the morning and the floor felt a little shaken.

Gave us the wrong room type (double instead of twin) and couldn't change it until next day, even though booked 6 months in advance. Cleaners woke us up 5 hours before checkout time on last day which was odd. Otherwise a fine hotel.

I booked a room at this hotel as a family member underwent surgery and was having rehab at the centre next door. I had to leave quickly and booked a room the day I left. My room was okay, but the price was 250 Euros. When queried, staff said that was because there was a soccer game at the stadium next door. Very expensive!

Very good location for Schalke fans. Unfortunately, coffee was only available for breakfast upon request, vending machines were out of order and staff were overwhelmed. The bathroom only has a bathtub with a high entry for showering.

The hotel is very centrally located, just a few meters from the pedestrian zone. Unfortunately, because of this, people from the drug scene also hang around in the area, but that's sadly the case in every major city. At the hotel itself, however, there are absolutely no problems. I stayed there during Essen spiel. The mini-fridge in the rooms do not cool anything at all and might as well not have existed. Since I have diabetes and need to keep my medicine cold, it was an issue. Luckily, the staff accomodated my needs by keeping my medicine in the fridge at the lobby bar. We had a great overnight stay here on our way back to England. Room was perfect, staff great. Nice little bar with a fair selection on drinks. Breakfast was great. The hotel has an amazing restaurant area and outside space, it is a shame that they don't utilise this space for an evening food service, such a waste.

Hotel is conveniently situated 300meter away from Philharmonie U Bahn station and 1.5km to Essen HBF. Nice n neat hotel, I wished the water pressure in the shower area can be stronger though.

Great location, just by Essen central station and the Christmas markets a short walk. And it has a small 24 hour gym. But I had noisy neighbours upstairs that persisted throughout, and the breakfast is very basic.

Everything was great as always! We'd love to come back when we're in Essen.

Extraordinary buildings renovated in a lovely way to fulfill the five star feeling of the hotel (this really old stone and brick castle). Fireplaces with live fires going in the evenings are cosy. I was traveling on business and the hotel had all I needed: appropriate place to work in the room, several parking options, very close to Essen Messe. Besides that, the single room I stayed in was clean, quiet, with comfortable bed and great shower. The staff was really sweet, friendly and competent. Very clean rooms. But unfortunately the climate in the hotel room was very poor. It was hot and humid. Also, in my opinion the pillows were too large and too small. Furthermore, the hotel itself and its facilities were outdated. Therefore, I would not recommend this hotel.

We probably had the worst room in the hotel. It was right next to the restaurant which shares the location with the hotel. So on the weekend it was extremely loud.
