B&B HOTEL Aachen-City in Aachen

Room was clean and quiet. Amenities were almost nonexistent, although unnecessary for me. Worst part was breakfast, which was nice average but always ran out by 7:30 and there was nothing left but bread and water.

I stayed at this place with my friend during our visit to Aachen. In the morning, my friend went downstairs to get coffee from the machine but was having trouble with it. Since there was no one at the reception, he called me to help. I quickly went down barefoot (without shoes) just to assist him — not realizing this would become an issue.

The coffee machine wasn’t accepting notes, and at that moment, a staff member from the reception appeared and told me to wear my shoes because “some people in the hotel don’t like it.” Honestly, I found this very unreasonable. I was just helping my friend for a minute, and as a paying guest, I don’t think walking barefoot for a short while should be a problem unless there’s a clear rule against it.

If the hotel has a policy about not walking barefoot in common areas, it should be clearly mentioned or displayed on a notice board. Guests come from different countries and cultures, and everyone has their own comfort preferences while staying.

I still respected what the staff said, went back upstairs, wore my shoes, and later checked out. I couldn’t find the same staff member to give this feedback in person, so I’m sharing it here instead. Overall, the stay was fine, but I believe the staff should handle such situations with more understanding and professionalism.
