Europe Hotel in Argostoli

I suspect this place used to do quite well but has passed its prime. Their website stated that they offer breakfast, but the receptionist informed us that they haven't offered breakfast in ten years. There was a sign out front advertising that they have a bar and a mini market, but neither looked like they'd been open in a while.

The website also stated that there was a shared washing machine, but neglected to mention that you had to pay €10 euro to use it. We got the impression that guests typically didn't ask to use it. We were traveling with my parents who stayed in a Deluxe Apartment which had its own washing machine, so we just used that instead.

Furthermore, the website stated that they offered beach towels. Upon enquiry, we again got the sense that this wasn't a typical request. They were able to scrounge together three beach towels and a beach umbrella, which we appreciated, however they did seem to just be towels left by past guests, as none were the same, nor did they have any hotel branding.

The internet speed of the Wifi was woeful, and the reception for COSMOTE seemingly wasn't much better.

The staff mistakenly charged us for the room a second time soon after we arrived. Mistakes happen, and they handled it reasonably well, but it was an inconvenience that we could have done without. Given that we had paid with an Australian debit card, we incurred a currency exchange fee each time our card was debited. They were unable to refund us this fee due to hotel policy. In the end, they gave another of our family staying with us a discount on their room in lieu of reimbursing us directly.

The hotel is about a 5-10 min walk from the pedestrian strip in Argostoli. Whilst the walk up to the hotel it is quite steep towards the end, on the plus side the hotel was far enough away from the nightlife that we enjoyed quiet nights. We also enjoyed the view of the harbour from our room's balcony. The place was clean and the staff were friendly.

The cleaner was very good every day we had the room tidy and clean. We had agreed that the room could see the sea and I could see the tiles. In the photos it seemed to have a large kitchen and we found this kitchenette. Generally the hotel was old. At least we found kind people there
