River Hotel in Hella

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. Breakfast was delicious, but not automatically included. However, it was worth the price. The ladies running breakfast even gave us some containers to pack a lunch for our hike. My favorite part of the stay was sitting in the breakfast room and watching the fly-fishermen in the river right outside. It was a gorgeous view.

This is such a charming little hotel! Of all the places we stayed in Iceland this one stands out. We often talk about the fun we had here and will stay here again when we visit Iceland. This place will forever be near and dear to us. The breakfast was delicious and very worth it.

We were booked at the River Hotel by another Hella hotel when they were unable to accommodate us related to a maintenance issue. The River Hotel was very accommodating and just seemed happy to have us as guests. It is clean and modern. We enjoyed the hot tub and the sauna also.
They gave us excellent recommendations for dinner and provided a hugh European breakfast. They suggested that we made sandwiches from the left over meat/cheese and take it with us for lunch. Even gave us sandwich bags.
It was not fishing season but the location is on the River so there was 'that beautiful view' and they say this is the place for salmon fishing.
Highly recommended to stay at the River Hotel!!

LONG REVIEW

Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of Feb, within minutes of arriving we were given a tour of the hotel and given advice on where me might eat and also told about a waterfall just down the road! (which proved very useful!)
Before i had even seen my room i knew i had made a good choice picking this hotel, the staff were just so enthusiastic and helpful, you could tell they were excited for us to have the best holiday we could and they would do whatever they could to make it great.
We had planned to be out on the road exploring every day, and the hotel gave us a thermos flask to fill with hot drink for our journeys, which was a nice surprise!
Tea and coffee was available 24/7 and breakfast on request, we had breakfast 2 nights, and it was great! (bacon, egg, beans, hot dog, toast, cereal, yoghurts, fruit and various little bits.. more than enough to keep us busy!)
We were on a budget, and so for cooking evening meals we asked if we could use the mircowave in the dining area, and we were told ''ofcourse!''. So every night we would get back from our long roadtrips and each cook our dinner and sit down in the dining area and eat. It was quite often empty and we often felt like the only guests staying there which made it feel really nice and home-ly.
We were very lucky to have a clear night one night and got to see the Aurora (albeit very weak), the staff were so happy for us, infact they had been running round the hotel looking for us to make sure we knew about it outside! It was very sweet of them, and sums up what kind of hosts they are, always trying to make your stay as great as they can.
They suggested we pop down to the waterfall (about 25 min walk down the road or 3 min drive), for a chance of a good picture with the northern lights, and they were spot on! i cannot thank them enough, got a really cool picture down there and i probably wouldnt have thought of the waterfall if they hadnt mentioned.

So, back to the hotel review.. River Hotel has underfloor heating.. it's fantastic! The entire hotel is spotless and i was surprised how new it looked inside. There are some really comfy relax areas to just sit and plan your next day, as well as a 24/7 hot tub and a sauna until 10pm.. If you do Go here, be sure to try the hot tub, the views around the hotel are gorgeous, and sitting in a hot tub in freezing rain, looking at the scenery is quite an experience!
Rooms are simple and small, but comfy and inviting.
You might think after going out to see all these awsome waterfalls and attractions that we would feel sad to have to go back each night, but no. We really looked forward to returning to the hotel each night, it instantly felt like home to us and we miss it already!

so bottom line,
if you want a hotel set in a fantastic location, run by people who go above and beyond for you, then go stay at River Hotel. Its home away from home, and it made our visit to Iceland an unforgettable one.

We ended up here completely unplanned after we had issues at our original hotel. The hotel is gorgeous, decor is modern, beds are comfy and the common areas are very relaxing. The views are incredible as well, the hotel is adjacent to the river, you can drink coffee and watch fly fisherman catch Icelandic salmon. What made this place exceptional is the customer service, by far the best we had in Iceland. They were so accommodating despite us checking in very early in the morning, the front desk staff were very sweet and helped us with our laundry. As we were leaving they packed us some donuts and yogurts since we missed breakfast. Highly recommend this place!
