I had a very disappointing experience at The Samilton Hotel, Kolkata, regarding billing transparency. Despite repeated requests, I was not provided with a proper invoice for the services availed. The hotel charges GST and collects payment using temporary slips but does not issue an authorized GST invoice. This is highly concerning and reflects a serious lack of transparency in their billing practices. Not providing proper GST invoices after collecting tax from customers raises questions about compliance with tax regulations. As a customer, this is unacceptable, especially when valid documentation is required. I strongly urge the management to address this issue immediately and ensure that proper GST invoices are issued to all guests. I hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves its processes.

It's difficult for me to give a fair assessment of the hotel. On the one hand, the staff tried to maintain a professional standard of guest service and were polite. On the other hand, the condition of the hotel and the room where I checked in on my fourth attempt was extremely unsatisfactory. The sofa upholstery was covered in numerous cigarette ash burns, as were the desk and coffee table. The sanitary condition of the room and bathroom was unsatisfactory. The shower head was a third covered in rust, and while showering and washing my hands in the sink, the water would suddenly stop flowing, which was disappointing. I stayed for two nights from January 2-4, 2026. On Friday night and Saturday night, I could hear loud conversations and drunken brawls in neighboring rooms every night due to the lack of soundproofing in the walls. The hotel and room interiors, including the elevator, look very tired and require urgent repairs. The only thing I liked were the two elderly hotel staff: one polite *** at reception and the other, a doorman. He's rude to talk to, but inside, he seems decent and conscientious about his job. I tried to eat at the hotel restaurant a couple of times, but decided against it because of the rude staff. Despite the surprisingly difficult daily life of Indians, I really love India. Sorry for the honest review.

Isha and rimpi were very good at front desk. Food was good too. The entire team were very courteous and helpful. We reached at midnight but they were happy to provide dinner at that time. They could improve on cleanliness of common area. Room was good though

This is a small and decent place for food and drinks. Good Chinese and Indian food.multiple options of beverages ( alcoholic). This is an average looking place with decent infrastructure and visited by young crowds and groups. The price of food and liquor is average to low compared to it's peers in that locality.

I love the food. It's tasty and doesn't leave you feeling unhealthy after the meal. The ambience is clean, simple and beautiful. While the food isn't exactly very affordable, it's not too overpriced for the experience. Only wish that they would serve with more enthusiasm and complete the overall experience. The good Chinese meal with bok choy is a must try.

It's a small place just near Elgin crossing. The place is crowded throughout the day and you might have to wait to get a table. The food was good and the price was also reasonable. Its a multi cruisene veg restaurant which offers combo veg Meals , south indian dishes, snacks etc.

I am writing to provide some direct feedback about Kewpie's Kitchen on Elgin Road, Kolkata.

We had bookmarked this restaurant on our first trip to Kolkata. The place was sorely disappointing, musty, dusty and smelling of paint. There was a gigantic cockroach that came running out from under the table. There were 2 waiters, neither did anything to even remove it. My friend went and killed it eventually, after seeing me hyperventilating. The washroom was disgusting, dirty and had more tiny roaches. The last straw was when the food arrived and there was a mini cockroach on the plate. We complained to the waiter who didn't even seem apologetic about it. Terrible experience. I highly doubt they deserve the awards they have hanging on their walls. Oh and to add, outside the restaurant, I found another dead cockroach. That makes it 4 in all, in one experience. Never going back there again and best of luck to whoever does.

I do hope they will fix this and really overhaul the management, hygiene and look of the restaurant. This kitchen will definitely not pass a health department scrutiny.

We lunched there on the 10th of Oct, 2017. Never again.
