Grones in Ortisei

They look after and pamper you. Recommended!

A family run hotel, frankly one of the best around. Very clean, very good attention to detail in all aspects. Every staff member we encountered was absolutely wonderful, always willing to help us with directions, recommendations, or really anything we needed. Be sure to get "half board" which means they will provide breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is a buffet, lots of options, fabulous. The dinner, prepared by a family member as the head chef, was incredible every night (plus, they have a wonderful salad bar to complement your meal). It was so nice to finish a day of hiking with the onsite dinner, eliminating the need to venture out again looking for a restaurant. We just loved Hotel Grones, and hopefully we can return in the future.

Absolutely wonderful hotel, great access, services and facilities, friendly and a warm, pleasant, and deeply comfortable atmosphere. Really special "Gemütlichkeit" there. And the food every morning and evening was simply excellent.

We chose to stay here for 8 nights to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We had been here 7 or 8 years ago and loved it. We were happy to discover it is still a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are very clean and nice and we had a view of the village plus a little piece of the Dolomites mountains. We were on the first floor so we had a patio. The landscaping is beautiful. The inside of the hotel is also beautiful, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Hotel Grones is extremely well maintained. There is a pool, hot tub and sauna and parking in an underground garage. (We didn’t make use of any of these.) We got the half board which I strongly recommend. The food is excellent! As nice as everything is at the hotel, it was the food that brought us back. After a day of hiking, it is wonderful to enjoy a delicious meal without having to walk anywhere. And of course, you want a good breakfast before a day of hiking. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and delicious; there is so much to choose from. We slept well — never heard a peep from outside or another room. This is helped by the location up on the hill. There is a long escalator with a roof to get up the hill, so it is easy to get into town. It’s maybe a ten minute walk and convenient to all three lifts as well as the main bus stop. We just love this hotel.

Hotel Grones is easily one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. The views, the room size and comfort, the downstairs spa, the small details the staff provides that mean so much when on vacation…all these add up to a family business devoted to giving their guests the best experience possible. The food is gourmet and changes nightly. If anyone ever asks me where to stay in Ortesei I will easily recommend Grones. It is a short into the main area of downtown.

5/5 Excellent – The Highlight of Our Italian Holiday!
We stayed at Hotel Grones during our Chinese national holiday trip in Italy, and it was hands down the most satisfying hotel of our entire journey. The owners are incredibly warm and hospitable, making us feel like family from the moment we arrived. The staff's attentiveness is truly exceptional – they went above and beyond to ensure every guest's comfort and needs were met with genuine care. From personalized recommendations to thoughtful little touches, it felt like home away from home.

The Dolomites is a special area. As it was our third time there, our hotel choice was an attempt to make the most of what the surroundings offered. We chose Hotel Grones for it's Tyrolean hospitality, scenic views, excellent kitchen, and location to the hikes. On each of these areas the hotel scored nearly perfect. Hospitality - the family personally greets you at check in and each evening dinner, and is available for all questions and special requests. Everyone is made to feel at home. Views - We chose to be a little outside of Ortisei so that we could maximize the views of the surrounding mountains. From our balcony, the valley and the Sassolungo were always on display. Location - easy walk to both the funicular Seceda and seilbahn Resciesca, giving quick access to the endless hikes in those regions. The third lift to Alpe di Suisi was a little farther (rent an ebike in town, take it up the Alpe di Suisi lift and ride down). Since hiking was our main goal, we really liked the location as well as the underground car park that made it easy to access our vehicle when we wanted to explore further. Kitchen - do not underestimate the culinary offerings of the Hotel Grones! We felt it was the best option for food in Ortisei. If you have the chance to do half board, it is well worth it. The breakfast buffet is varied and fresh, with home baked goods and dishes for every palate, but the dinners were even better-- creative, well prepared and presented, and delicious. Wines from the local region can be paired, and. options for vegetarian and gluten free are possible. In addition, the spa area with its steam room, dry sauna, pool, and (lukewarm) jacuzzi were clean and well maintained. No regrets, except when leaving.

We did a lot of research in finding the hotel for our Dolomites trip and are exceptionally pleased we chose Hotel Grones for the following reasons:

1. Location is a little above and away from central Ortisei making for great views and quiet, yet still just a few minutes walk from the center on beautiful Passeggiata Luis Trenker (a lovely walking path).

2. The hotel is immaculately clean and well maintained. Our room had an abundance of natural light and light clean wood floors and furnishings. The common areas including reception, bar, dining, landscaping, pool, jacuzzi, spa, parking are all excellent.

3. All the staff were kind and helpful and provided excellent service.
From ownership to front desk to bartender to wait staff to housekeeping. The breakfast was varied, fresh and well stocked. The dinner service provided delicious options and multiple courses of local cuisine. There were theme nights with typical Ladin dishes, nights with an accordion player, nights with a harpist.
We met couples who have been returning to Hotel Grones time and again. We completely understand as everything about this place is excellent.

Hotel Grones is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The family and staff make you feel so welcomed. I highly recommend getting the halfboard with dinner. The food is absolutely fantastic, served in a dining room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the green valley. The pool and sauna area were perfect for relaxation. Nice sitting areas were available both inside and out to enjoy the gorgeous views. I can’t say enough positive things about Hotel Grones. I highly recommend it.

This is an exceptional hotel and it was great to be back after many years. We spent 7 nights and everything was perfetto. The spacious bedroom was in excellent order with a very well equipped and modern bathroom and a balcony looking out over the mountains. The hotel has a very nice indoor pool which provides comfortable relaxation after a day of walking in the mountains. The half board option is fantastic beause of the quality of the dinners. Breakfasts are also of a high quality. The hotel is in an elevated position above the main part of Ortisei and a nearby walk way you to a cable car station and on a little further to the funicular. There is an underground carpark below the hotel. This is a perfect place.
