Disappointing and not suitable for families

Our experience at Hotel Tonnara Trabia was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, the reception staff claimed they had no record of our confirmed booking until we produced the email correspondence. Staff appeared more concerned with managing appearances at the front desk than providing practical assistance.

After a long early flight, we asked where we might find lunch, only to be told everything was closed, with no suggestions or guidance offered. The restaurant was also closed during our stay, which made meals unnecessarily difficult.

Most concerning was the lack of consideration for families with young children. We were travelling with an eight-week-old baby and were allocated a room directly beneath a party with live music continuing past midnight. When we contacted reception, we were told simply, “it’s a party, the music will go until late.” No effort was made to help, and as a result, we were unable to get any rest.

Overall, the hotel’s attitude was dismissive and unhelpful. I cannot recommend this hotel, particularly for those travelling with children, as basic comfort and guest care were entirely lacking.

Tonnara ruined the most important day of my daughter – her wedding. All because of a horrible manager they have (not sure of her name but she sits in the cabin near the reception)

The person at the front desk, Raimondo is a lovely gentleman but his hands are tied behind his back. Whilst he is extremely helpful, he has no powers. The front office staff is also very helpful but it is a shame that the person in charge of the hotel is very unpleasant and unreasonable

To summarise, we decided on the hotel a year back. We agreed with the hotel arrangements for the wedding which included the dance floor and a detailed layout. This formed part of a signed contract.

On the day of the wedding the contractor who was to erect the dance floor arrived with his crew. They started laying the dance floor when the lady manager walks in and throws a tantrum that she would not allow the dance floor to be laid down since it would ruin the grass. We showed her the signed contract which clearly stated a dance floor with carpet. She argued that yes we could lay down a carpet but no wooden support could be below it. The contractor explained that putting down a carpet on grass to act as a dance floor would be a safety hazard since people would trip over it. She was having none of it and stuck to her unreasonable interpretation. The contractor was right to charge me the 2500 Euros since he had hired transport and people to lay down the floor which we had to pay

There were 200 guests staying at the hotel. Breakfast was a fiasco. Despite requesting them to ensure a toaster be made available it was not provided for. They had one small panini maker which took 3-4 mins to toast a slice. The queue was horrendous as a result most people could not enjoy hot toasts for breakfast.

Some of the pots in the toilets were repulsive. They had yellow stains on them. Photograph is attached.

When my daughter got her make up lady, the same lady manager insisted she could not do the make up in her room but demanded extra money for us to hire a separate make up room. Wonder why the hotel would be bothered on what the bride does in her room.

The hotel mainly caters to wedding guests yet has no ironing facility. One has to use their laundry which is not capable to cater to 10-15 requests per day. When we asked them to provide a couple of irons and an ironing board at the reception the response was it was not good for the image of the hotel!! They agreed to an ironing room with 2 irons for which they demanded 500 Euros. When I argued with them that the room rate is 140 Euros per day so how could they justify more than double their response was to cater to the electricity and air conditioning the room would need. Ridiculous and day light robbery

In summary I repent selecting this hotel and strongly urge you not to deal with such a place who do not honour their contract and are out to take advantage of the situation. They ruined the entire wedding which is something I will never forget. When I told the manager I will ensure I post this on social media she was arrogant and said I am most welcome to do so.

In the final settlement of the invoice the lady manager intimidated my daughter so much that she had to call the police to intervene. They did not allow me into the room where the discussions were taking place as a result my daughter had to endure them all alone

Avoid at all costs, hotel is nothing like the description, and the staff service non existent. 2 star hotel at best.

After experiencing a sleepless night last Friday due to loud music outside our room, the absence of a window blind, and a non-functioning fridge, we were assured that we would receive compensation. In particular the absence of a window blind meant that we were unable to sleep until the early hours when the lights outside were switched off. We were not pre warned about a wedding directly outside our window, and when challenged we were told ‘it’s a party, deal with it.’

Instead of receiving the night complimentary as was promised, we were offered a 20 euro discount this morning, which, quite frankly, felt insulting given the circumstances.

We have subsequently checked our final bill and the deposit that we had paid prior to the trip has not been deducted.

We have since emailed the hotel 3 times with no responses at all. Yet when we booked earlier in the year and paid our deposit they responded to the emails immediately.

In addition:

Shower water stunk
Our friends room had no hot water for 3 days
The pool closes between 1pm and 3pm (makes no sense it’s the middle of the day for everyone staying there)
Ran out of all drinks at the pool bar

Disappointing, I don’t understand where the 4* come from. Rooms werent the worst but some things didnt work and were old. How hard is it to replace a towel hanger thats broken? Shower water smelled bad. Also, there is only overhead shower head which is unpractical for women. Loud parties uder the window until 2AM, impossible to sleep, they should put sound proof windows in this case. Restaurant staff very unprofessional. The waiter didnt bring one meal, after a while we asked about it and he said “he didn’t have it in the order” although we for sure ordered it (we were a group and we all heard it being ordered). No apology. He said they would bring it, we waited for 30 minutes. Then we asked again and we were told they will check. We waited for 30 more minutes. We had to ask again for the fourth time and then they brought the meal - cold and dry. Food below average. Beach was not nice, it was dirty, the water too and the water also smelled bad. The bottom of the sea was muddy and slimy. The pool was great and the guy working at the pool bar was nice and helpful. But we don’t understand why would you close the pool between 1pm to 3pm? I would not recommend this hotel. They are lucky there are weddings in the castle next door.

Terrible ground-floor rooms that didn't meet the cleanliness and other standards expected of a 4-star hotel! Worse than a hostel, we found residual limescale, a dirty shower stall full of limescale and rust, and a two-star floor with horrible grout lines full of dirt... I won't add anything else.

The hotel is clearly owned by a family that has a large tile business. The halls are tiled, the wallas are tiled, the beds are tiled (or at least they feel as if they are). The Breakfast is meagre and the fruit has clearly been acquired because it is as hard as tiles. The setting is wonderful but the staff are dour (perhaps they get paid in tiles). There is no way in a month of Sundays this is a 4*. At a pinch this might be a 2* but, apart from the setting it's basically a Travelodge or Formula Un quality.

We stayed two nights here. The staff tried to be helpful when on checking in to our room we let them know the air conditioning and the shutters were broken but the hotel was full and the only alternative room was much closer to the event space so would have been noisier. As it was the hotel is in a good location for the castle venue next door but not for those seeking a good nights sleep. The views are lovely. The pool is good but needs cleaning more regularly. And if you want breakfast go early (it is usually open from 7.30am due to coach parties). Finally, it turned out tv wasn’t working either so from our perspective not the best of experiences for a 4 star hotel .

We stayed here for a wedding at the nearby castle venue and it was rough to say the least. When we checked in and went to our room, it was still dirty from the prior guests. The rooms are outdated and damp, AC barely worked. Front desk just seemed bothered by guests in general. The restaurant is good, that’s about it. Avoid if you can, we couldn’t wait to check out.
