Hotel Excelsior Bay in Malcesine

What can say about Excelsior Bay Hotel other what fantastic staff. From the cleaners right through to the management!! My mum fell critically ill during a recent 10 day visit and was taken by air ambulance to a hospital over an hour away, leaving my elderly father at the hotel on his own. The hotel staff looked after my dad so well I couldn't have asked for any kinder people to look after him. They always made sure he was ok, booked him transport to and from the hospital, printed insurance documents, spoke with the hospital and insurance amongst many other ways in which they helped. They truly went above and beyond and showed real empathy. My mum had to stay in hospital for 2 weeks in total, and their holiday was only for 10 days, but they made a room available for my dad and also for me and my partner who drove down from the UK then to help look after and support my dad.... and they still were always asking how my mum was, did we or my dad need anything, and asking what they could do to help. And that was all the staff, not just the office / management staff.

The hotel is lovely and in a perfect position, close enough to to town and all the restaurants for a 3 minute walk to get to them all, but far enough out away from the immediate hustle and bustle. Sitting out the front of the hotel in the seating area, looking out over the lake while you eat your breakfast or drink a coffee, was wonderful. The rooms are lovely and clean. Beds are comfy. Air conditioning was much appreciated. Breakfasts were always good with a massive choice of different and always some minor variations each day.

And from me and my family all I can say is that they are all just the nicest of nice people.

We've recently returned after a lovely week staying at The Excelsior Bay Hotel. The staff are amazing from Michele and Rosanna at reception, the bar and breakfast staff plus the friendly cleaners! Hotel is lovely and bright and the rooms very comfortable. We paid extra for a lake view balcony which was so worth it and recommend it if you can! Hotel is nicely placed just out of town therefore peaceful. Depending on your mobility the town is anything from a 6/7 minute to 15 minutes walk. The ferry to Limone (across the Lake) is 50 yards from hotel. Limone is beautiful with lots of restaurants and bars plus gelatos to die for! Plenty shops to wander round! The ferry to Riva is in the centre of town which is the larger of places to visit. Again an abundance of restaurants and shops. Try learning a few phrases of Italian before you go as the locals appreciate your efforts. It's also nice if you can greet them and say thank you in their own language! The hotel has now closed for the winter however can highly recommend it when it opens again in May 2026.

Second time staying in this hotel. As amazing as our first stay. All of all the Staff are so helpful and friendly. Michele and Rosanna go above and beyond to make your stay a brilliant one and can't do enough for all of their customers. Such a friendly hotel in Malcesine right by the side of the beautiful Lake Garda and within walking distance of a small ferry port. Turn left out of the hotel and there's a restaurant next door and keep walking and there's another couple a bit further round the lake. 10/15 minutes to the right of the hotel and you come to the large ferry port and town, with an abundance of shops restaurants and cafes. Well worth booking a room with lake view. Just hoping I will be able to return again in the near future.

Just returned from the hotel, had a wonderful week there. The manger was most helpful. Staff were very friendly. The position on the lake side and the short walk into Malcesine ideal. Could not of ask for more.

We enjoyed our week at this lovely hotel. The location is perfect, being slightly away from the old town so nice and quiet. We had a lake view room which was gorgeous. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and efficient. The gentleman at reception was a star, so cheerful, always ready to help and not only that it seemed as if he was always there. We say it’s time he had a well deserved holiday. All in all, if you are planning a visit to Malcesine, we would recommend this friendly hotel. Finally I would like to thank the staff for making our holiday such a wonderful experience.

A last minute decision to visit Malcesine in Lake Garda found us making a booking with the Hotel Excelsior Bay and this proved to be a great choice.

The Excelsior Bay has stunning lake and Mountain View’s and is perfectly positioned around a 5 minute stroll outside of the busy centre of Malcesine and the walk North into Town or indeed South to explore offers beautiful views all the way.

This hotel has a ‘simplicity’ about it, nothing pretentious, just good quality accommodation, service and equally superb staff.

Do not underestimate the Excelsior Bay hotel thinking that you always have to stay in the middle of a busy town. Malcesine is beautiful and in my opinion, the Excelsior Bay offers the best of all options.

The location of the hotel is obviously fabulous and it was very clean and comfortable. The staff were so helpful and friendly that it made the stay perfect in every way. I would highly recommend it as a perfect place to stay in Malcesine!!

We are here as a couple. This hotel is perfect, so relaxing. The staff are so lovely and polite. The breakfast is delicious, you can eat outside right by the lake, room cleaned daily by the lovely cleaners. The pool is so nice and relaxing. I wouldn’t say it’s a kid hotel but kids are welcome. We don’t have a single complaint. Perfecto for couples and olds groups. The location is amazing. Malcesine restaurants close at about 11pm, but if you fancy a late drink the oasis bar is a couple of minutes away. We’re still here but I wants to give the review it deserves . This hotel is traditional, on the small side and very friendly. Its location is unique in that it is right on the lakeside but not in the centre of Malcesine. It’s only. 15 minute walk into town which is so picturesque along the lakeside path. The hotel also has a lovely pool which was never over-full and we always got sunbeds. The rooms are basic, a touch old-fashioned but spotlessly clean and with everything you need. We had a lake-view room which was stunning and I’d highly recommend getting one as the view really made it for us. Breakfast is basic. Not the all-singing and dancing omelettes/pancakes/chocolate fountains etc but in keeping with a small traditional hotel. Perfectly situated for strolling into town or to the local beaches. Also v handy for the boat to Limone.
