Romantic Escapade in Venice in Venice

What a weird hotel!
Pros: Very close to Rialto and very large room
Cons: it’s a bit weird going in, there’s a front desk but they don’t have anyone working there, there’s a large computer screen with someone on Skype speaking to you. Because of this they require you email your passport over in advance. This is not a secured way to send personal information. Very risky and the only way to do it. They have actual keys instead of swipe cards and they leave everyone’s keys on the front desk with your full name written in it, anyone could grab with the room number labeled on them. This always feels really unsafe, it’s so easy to copy a key or steal the key. The hallways stink of cheap chemicals and sewage. The cleanliness is questionable. We went in our room to find the bathroom hasn’t been cleaned, used products left in there etc. we told them and they said someone would come clean and never did. The coffee maker was also dirty and never cleaned. The couch was filthy, they put a throw blanket overtop to cover all the stains. The AC would turn on but not cool the room then shut off in the night . We couldn’t sleep because it was so hot. If you have a river view room they collect garbage right outside at 715 am for a few hours which is very noisy. There was also some confusion about city tax. The cleaner asked us to pay her which we did then they later returned the money saying it was already covered. Once we left the hotel we were contacted being told we never left the money. Without someone at the front desk or clear instructions there seems to be a gap in communication. We didn’t know how to check and where to leave the keys. I would definitely not stay here again. The whole experience just missed the mark. I definitely question if all the positive reviews are of actual part guests.
