For my one-night stay in Beppu, I chose Meimatsu Oetei. Although it's an older hotel, it's incredibly well-maintained. The Japanese-style room was advertised as 15 sq m, but it felt much more spacious in reality

While the building and rooms are recognisable a bit older it is well kept and clean. The staff is absolutely top notch and the food was very tasty and of good quality

This was the only place in Beppu I could find that had hot springs and let solo travelers book a room for my timeframe. Would come again! Also kudos for the pianist playing ghibli songs in the evening

There are public baths on both the rooftop and the 3rd floor, with separate facilities for men and women. Swimsuits are not allowed, nor are mobile phones

Nothing but good things to say about the hotel, it is one of the best stays I´ve had anywhere and a hotel with excellent value

Free music concert every night that is totally above my expectations where my family had a great time gather together and listen to the beautiful pianist and violinist play my favourite Ghibli pieces

The staff were attentive and attentive. The room was a private Japanese-style garden room, fully and meticulously furnished. The hot spring water (described as originating from a gold vein) felt wonderful

Lovely ryokan in Beppu, room is very spacious with western or japanese style beds to choose as sleeping option in the room. Sound of waterfall from room terrace is very relaxing. Onsen is very soothing

Breakfast is also very authentic Japanese cuisine, very high quality and delicious! I definitely recommend this hotel. Regardless of the service, environment, facilities, and food, it is also very satisfying

The environment and service are very good, but the hardware facilities are really not good. The public hot spring is outdoors and looks like a wild hot spring. The private hot spring is outdoors

Great mountain side hotel with fantastic view over Beppu. Traveling to Yufin and around is super easy from the hotel. I would come back to this place

They are renewing the onsen on the fourth floor, and I couldn't try it

I like everything but the food. The food is great quality and the sashimi is thick! But is frozen! Is so icy cold. And the pork steak has a porky smell. The starter is nice though.

The breakfast is so good, very high value. They change the main dish every day. A huge variety of food to eat. They close the hotel door at midnight, so the first night, i had to call them to let me in

I Strongly Recommend Improvement, But the Food Is Wonderful I recently stayed at Beppu Fuuga, and while there were some very disappointing aspects regarding the service and facilities, there were also some great points

Food: Japanese beef is delicious, of course, but cold-cooked cold noodles will only be available in the summer. Service: The staff is very nice and pleasant. I really wanted to stay here again

Very good onsen hotel with great food and hospitality. We have enjoyed the stay and plan to go back soon.

Each onsen also has its own unique character and is not crowded. I highly recommend the Yakushi-no-Yu. One area for improvement is the lack of blackout curtains in the rooms; I was woken up by the sun around 5 AM

Additionally, regarding the dinner and breakfast plan (one night, two meals), as it features traditional Japanese cuisine, it might not suit all foreign palates. However, for the cultural experience, it's excellent

Away from the hustle and bustle, the food is of average quality, with a particularly good breakfast. The service is good, and you can use the private bath for free. There aren't many rooms.

I was solo traveling and don’t speak Japanese, but the staff was amazing and made everything easy for me! The dinner and breakfast were very good too and I enjoyed the private bath as well

Reservations weren't possible, but you could simply tell the front desk if you wanted to go and it would be available anytime. The large public bath was also great, with an open-air onsen

The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, so it's more convenient if you're driving. We booked breakfast and dinner, and the food was absolutely amazing; you definitely have to try it if you stay here

Overall a great place to stay; excellent food, beautiful architecture, nice views, private onsen in room.  Some suggestions on what we would have liked: more pillows, thicker towels, some welcome snacks

The location is pretty good because it’s private. It’s suit for guest comes with the car. About 15 mins drive to downtown. The room was big with private onsen, clean and simple

The facility is only the public onsen, which is indoor with no view. The breakfast is quite basic, the taste could be more outstanding

The hotel is located between Beppu University Station and Beppu Station. It's 3 kilometers from various hellish tourist spots and 1. 6 kilometers from Kourō Onsen (Gourd Hot Spring), both within walking distance

location is not ideal without personal transport, have to arrange private pick up or taxi from train station. Room has private onsen but it's not comfortable or inviting as it's a bath tub

The hotel offers a shuttle service to Beppu Station, which must be booked two days in advance. Do not follow the directions to Beppu University, otherwise you'll waste an hour traveling just one stop

The countryside city walk offers a unique tranquility. The hotel's highlight is its food; both dinner and breakfast are exquisite and delicious, making it worth the price of admission

The parking lot is large, and there is also space for the car to return, so the luggage will not get wet in the rain; it is easier to meet foreign waiters at the counter (whose English is not very good either), and if you don't speak Japanese, you may need to use a translator; the hot spring pool is also good, although it is old, but the overall environment is quite clean; there are no shops within...

The price was reasonable. Very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. Satisfied with the hot springs. A little concerned about some stains in the room. Overall, very satisfied.

The room is large (tatami + bed), with plenty of room for activities, but the bathroom is very small, and it would be more comfortable to take a bath in a public pool; however, due to the inconvenient transportation, it is suitable for self-driving people

Our room was on the third floor, so there was no view, but the room was spacious, and the large communal bath and open-air bath were very comfortable, so we were very satisfied.

While the facilities are a bit dated, it seems to be well-maintained, and the service is even friendlier compared to the hot spring hotels near Beppu Station (which are also very friendly)

The hotel took the initiative to take the luggage, communicated in English, and the food was good. The most important thing is that the hot spring ♨️ pool is large and it is convenient for self-driving and taking photos.

A traditional Japanese-style hotel. The outdoor hot spring water is milky white. You can get off at Alum Station, which is very close to the station. If you stay in Beppu for two nights, you can consider staying here

An amazing place to stay with delicious dinner and breakfast! It was beautiful and clean. We were very happy with our room as well, especially we had a gorgeous view

Inside hot spring switches the locations for men and women every day. 1st floor was entirely outside and again it was freezing in Jan. But it’s a huge floor with many fun hot springs! 2nd floor is mostly inside

There is an open-air bath on the first floor and an indoor bath on the second floor, both of which were spacious and comfortable. The hotel has two private hot springs: a milky sulfur spring and a clear simple spring

I think the hotel would get a higher rating if the toilets had at least a bidet. I'd even be willing to pay a bit more for that. It's close to the station and offers great value for money.

Quite good place to plan for sleeping one night. Woman's and man's hot spring bath room is saperated as 3rd floor and 7th floor. Woman's bath is in 3rd floor, Man's bath is in 7th floor

Superb location opposite the station, and kind friendly staff. The bathroom was rather dirty, which was really discomforting but overall I am happy with the convenience of the hotel.

The snow and the church that is white in color just camouflage and it makes it look so stunning. What I loved the most is the fact that they served separated Halal menu for Muslims

The overall room and facilities are relatively old. But very clean. The customer service attitude is very good. The beef dinner is so rich that you can’t finish it all.

there is a 7-11 just around the corner room: my room came without a bathroom but for the ladies are 3 cubicles shared among the 7 mix gendered guests on the floor. i did not have to wait in line at all

However, compared to other hot spring hotels in the same price range, there's no welcome drink or all-you-can-drink option, and only iced water is provided after the hot spring bath

The outdoor bath was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. Parking costs 500 yen, but they offered parking upon check-in, which was convenient.

Wow, it was really bad for the price. It was over 700,000 won per night. and during my 2 night stay, I couldn't eat the kaiseki meal because it was full

Upscale Ryokan with excellent food, service and facilities! Each chalet has a lounge and a bedroom, an outdoor area with private bath, veranda , heated changing room. ! We extended our stay, which rarely happened before!

Beautiful view towards the main street and the mountains. The indoor tub has higher temperature than the outdoor ones. At the male spa there is also a sauna, small but really nice, can have maximum three people inside

ONSEN review: for non guests entrance fee ¥500, pay at the reception where you can also get the onsen stamp. Take the elevator to the 7th floor and the walk up the stairs to the 8th floor where the onsen is

Free lockers, shampoos are provided. Bring your own towel, otherwise you can rent from the hotel. There is a big indoor tub, two outdoor tubs, one normal and one shallow for you to be able to lay down

I spent around an hour bathing and there were only two more people in and out of the onsen so I was alone the most of the time. Definitely worth the price, highly recommended

Measured the water temperature flowing in and it was 90. 2°C, of course you can add cold water to cool down the tub. Even though the whole area is small there is a big window which allows plenty of natural light

Operating hours for non guests 10:00 - 15:00. I used the private onsen for 2 people. There are more onsen facilities like an outdoor private onsen for 2-3 people and private bedrock bath with different prices

I stayed for 2 nights in a row. The staff was very friendly and I was able to stay very comfortably. The appearance is modest, but the interior is based on the concept of bamboo and camellia, so you can have a nice rest
