Beppu Kankaiji Onsen Ryotei Matsubaya in Beppu

Very good onsen hotel with great food and hospitality. We have enjoyed the stay and plan to go back soon.

It's a historic hotel with a hot spring culture. Located on a mountain, it's inaccessible by public transportation; a taxi from the station costs around 100 RMB, but calling a taxi is convenient. The hotel has three private hot springs, marked with round signs outside. You can enter when you see an empty one, but there will be someone inside. Most rooms have private hot springs, and they are very nice. It's best to book a room with a private hot spring, as the other rooms are quite basic and not as refined as those around Mount Fuji. The cleanliness is also just average; the tables were dusty. Dinner is Japanese cuisine, beautiful and delicious, with fresh ingredients. Prices have increased significantly during the National Day holiday; the usual price of around 3000 RMB is quite good.

The food is incredibly tasty, the service is excellent, and the rooms are spotless. There are various private hot springs available for guests. Overall, it’s a great experience.

Having family bathing facilities was a definite highlight. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and spacious. I was so glad I could enjoy such a pleasant night's stay. I'd love to come back again.

The staff were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, proactively helping with our luggage. The hotel facilities are excellent, and the private onsens offer a high degree of privacy. Each onsen also has its own unique character and is not crowded. I highly recommend the Yakushi-no-Yu.

One area for improvement is the lack of blackout curtains in the rooms; I was woken up by the sun around 5 AM. Additionally, regarding the dinner and breakfast plan (one night, two meals), as it features traditional Japanese cuisine, it might not suit all foreign palates. However, for the cultural experience, it's excellent.

Nice place to stay

We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful hot spring bath and meal.

There is a free snacks & drinks bar for guest, thats is very thoughtful. The hotel is good for taking photos.

The hotel is situated 15 minutes taxi ride from the Beppu station. So we have nowhere to go that night. But it's good enough to have hotspring and drinks in the hotel. The staff is very polite and can explain what you can do in English. Then you were lead to the room and tips rejected.

We booked the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. The dinner time is either 6pm or 6:30pm and the breakfast time 8am or 8:30. The dinner is good but maybe my expectation is quite high, it didn't reach my expectation, especially for the sashimi.

For the onsen, there are 4 private onsens and 2 public. One of the private onsens is closed. Therefore we can use 3. You can use the private onsen when it is not occupied. Just lock the door and turn the plate to the other side. But all the onsen are closed by 12 midnight. And there is a room with free flow beer and soda, but it closes at 10pm. Don't drink beer before taking hotspring.

There is also an onsen in our room which can be used anytime. It's hot at night but not so hot in the next morning. Overall, the view is good. The staff is good. The food is good (just not so great) and the onsens are good. Beppu is a good place to stay a few days more

It was a very nice trip. The staff were very good with good service. And the food quantity was big, donno why some comment said they were not full. 😝
I have a very good memory there.
Just one thing if there are more individual hot spring room will be perfect ^^
