Hotels with sauna in Beppu

The in-room TV was large and wall-mounted (around 30-40 inches?), which I personally appreciated. There is a large hot spring bath on the first floor, and since I stayed on a weekday, it was almost entirely private

The water temperature was just right on the day I stayed, allowing me to relax and unwind. There is also a family bath available for advance reservations, so families with children can feel at ease there

The building is old, but with an auto-lock and card key system and handmade-style decorations, I could see the effort put into every aspect, and it made me want to support them

My room was Western-style, but there was some noise from next door, so if you're an early sleeper or sensitive to noise, earplugs would be helpful for a good night's sleep

One of the shower heads on the men's side was broken, so I think it would be a good idea to replace it. If you're accessing by car, we recommend simulating which route you'll take in advance

ONSEN review: visited the onsen during the onsen festival and I can't find the entrance fee if you are not a guest. Shampoos provided, you need to bring your own towel

Luckily, the proprietor was able to quickly accommodate the change and was very apologetic on the error (not their fault, it's on booking!)

Shrimp was served three different ways at dinner. There was a tempura dish that also included shrimp, but strangely did not include toriten (a famous local chicken specialty). Dessert was two small slices of citrus

As we were re-loading our luggage into the car, a man came outside and spoke with us, and allowed us to drag our bags back to the entrance, where they took them for us. But, we were still not allowed to check in

They also automatically set up a futon with 2 mattress pads for us foreigners who aren't use to sleeping on them. The indoor and outdoor baths were reservation based for 50min at a time and perfect

We paid ¥68,000 yen for a one night stay for two people including half board. We arrived early (2:00pm) and were met with a sign on the front door that check-in is not allowed before 4pm

You could buy eggs nearby and enjoy steaming them in the garden, but you won't be able to eat that much. If you ask the landlady for alcohol, coffee, pudding, etc. , she'll bring you something exceptionally delicious

Hotel quite near to beppu Station. The onsen and sauna is OK. The locker is just beside the public bath which is at the 3rd floor but the rooms are at the 4th floor. Overall is good

This is a capsule hotel, with individual wooden partitioned rooms. You access it by card, and shoe lockers are at the entrance; you enter wearing slippers. I stayed on November 26th and 27th in winter

The heating was on full blast, so it wasn't cold at all. There's a large public bath, and you shower directly in the public bath area

A sauna is also available (I only lasted a few seconds, worried my glasses couldn't withstand the heat). Complimentary earplugs are available at the front desk, but the accommodation area was very quiet regardless

Overall, it's a compact place that offers all the essentials. At this price point, getting free access to natural hot springs in a major spa destination like Beppu is an incredible deal

The capsule was clean and very well-located, less than a 10-minute walk from Beppu Station and just 5 minutes from Takegawara Onsen, where you can enjoy a unique sand bath! The on-site onsen with a sauna, which is included in the price, was a fantastic amenity
