This guesthouse was one of the most touching experiences of my journey in Japan. From the moment I arrived, I felt a rare sense of warmth and calm. The fact that it is run by elderly hosts gives the place a unique soul — everything feels slower, more genuine, and deeply human. It truly feels like stepping into a traditional Japanese home.

The hosts were incredibly kind and attentive, always present without ever being intrusive. Their hospitality reflected the true meaning of omotenashi: sincere, respectful, and heartfelt. They made me feel safe, welcome, and deeply appreciated as a guest.

The food was absolutely outstanding. I can honestly say that I have never eaten fish of such quality and taste in my life. Every meal felt like a gift, prepared with care, tradition, and love.

I left this place with a full heart. It was not just a stay, but a cultural and emotional experience that I will remember for a long time. Highly recommended to anyone looking for authenticity and true Japanese hospitality.

You can book/use both indoor and outdoor private onsen which is really nice! and the staff are nice and helpful. Also the area this Ryokan is located in the city is very convenient and nice! And is very close to the seven hells of Beppu.

Great location near Kannawa. It feels more like a guesthouse, very Japanese in style. Hyotan Onsen is very close by, but after 9 PM, there's hardly anyone on the streets, and it's quite dark, which felt a bit scary.

Check-in was quite casual; no registration needed, but there was a 250 tax to pay.

The host didn't speak English, so communication was difficult. As soon as I arrived, they offered a 'better' room for an extra 1000 yen. I booked the cheapest option, and the upstairs room was large but had no hot water and no shower. I guess you're supposed to shower at the private onsen, but I'm not sure about other rooms.

The reception was polite and friendly. The outdoor private onsen was quite nice, but the indoor one didn't look very inviting.

They knocked on the door half an hour before check-out, twice, which was not okay. Check-out is at 10 AM.

Even the location is good but it difficult to go to and there is no sign of the ryokan at all. The room is very old and authentic which it almost 200 yrs. But request ice will cost 500 yen which should be free servicea.

First of all, there was no key to the room. I was told to leave my wet umbrella anywhere on rainy days, and there was no umbrella stand or anything, so I just left it there, sopping up the tatami mats in the room. They made a point of saying they had the biggest room available, but did they really think they could fool me by saying that? It was just big, but it wasn't properly cleaned, and when you opened the door, you'd see the tatami mats right away... It felt like this wasn't a guest room... The futon was also so bad that I couldn't believe they were charging money for it. A love hotel would still be better. The bath was so bad I went to the nearby Hyotan Onsen. The portions of food were just too big.
Anyway, it made me feel like they were just making fun of me because I was young. I'll never go there again.

This guesthouse is full of travel charm. You can reserve the bathtub for private use, and the meals are enough for 2 to 3 people, with sashimi, tempura, steamed dishes, and Western food—so much food you'll be spoiled for choice. You could buy eggs nearby and enjoy steaming them in the garden, but you won't be able to eat that much. If you ask the landlady for alcohol, coffee, pudding, etc., she'll bring you something exceptionally delicious. It makes you reluctant to go out. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've returned to your grandmother's house.

The facilities are relatively old, the location is easy to find, the three Obasan are very Nice, did not meet other tourists, basically equal to private soup, the food is average

Good location, good hospitality, if you want to feel a genuine japanese style country side family style onsen, good choice

The location is convenient. If you drive here, you need to ask the store to lead you to a restricted hot spring hotel at the back. I booked two meals and one night (the store provides extra charges for eating in the room). I ate in a public space at the entrance. There are many kinds of food and the portions are not small. I like their homemade plum wine. There is a private bath, which will be randomly divided by gender. It is really comfortable after soaking. The room space is quite compact.

I really recommend this place!!
The owner is so kind and the food is so delicious!!
It's also great for sightseeing because the shrine and Jigoku Onsen are nearby!!
Above all, the price is so cheap that you'll wonder, 'Do you have anything left over after giving this much?'!!
If I get the chance, I want to go back and it's a place I can confidently recommend to someone!!!
Share your experiences, help others make the right choice!
