I liked it a lot. Good for the price. Really good deal, big rooms, private bathroom. Onsen with amenities. Free parking. Super kind staff. It’s a little old, but it’s great.

Nice Riokan
Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful, although didn't speak much english. The only downside was the facility was a bit worn -stained carpets, peeling wallpaper, and musty smell

Food was awsome! Property is a bit run down (peeling wallpaper, stained carpets, musty smell).

This is out of town, but I’m a sucker for traditional onsen ryokan. This place has aged well, rooms are spacious, there is a private onsen on the top floor for 40min usage, and there are a couple of great restaurants 10mins walking distance around. Lawson out the front. Staff were excellent. Only stayed 1 night but would go back. Great if you have a car.

This is a cute ver traditional ryokan. However it is in dire need of a remodel. Many stains on the carpets and walls, ripped wallpaper, more mold in the baths than I’m comfortable with. The rooms themselves are nice and clean but all the amenities are quite old. Has enough parking for only 3 cars so keep that in mind. Very very friendly staff though, and the food is wonderful! One big problem however is WIFI is only on the 1ST FLOOR! NOWHERE ELSE! So if you want a quiet device free stay, it’s perfect, if you’re low on data, maybe skip this one.

The hotel overall, and my room specifically, had a lot of wear and tear: the western portion of my room had sizable stains on the carpet and splatter marks on the walls (The tatami portion of the room was fine). The hallway carpet was also stained and lumpy in places and the wallpaper was peeling. The 4th-floor bath also showed signs of wear; slats were missing from the trellis over the outdoor portion. The 6th-floor bath for groups or couples included more conveniences, such as lotions, razors, toothbrushes, and a playpen that a baby could sleep in, but one of the lights flickered the entire time, making it difficult to relax.
The most disappointing part of my stay was the lack of clarity in the reservations portion of the website. I'm a website-savvy person who has stayed in ryokan before and I can say there was *zero* indication in my reservation that I had chosen a package that did *not* include the traditional kaiseki dinner that one expects -- and understands to be included -- in a ryokan stay. Upon checking in, I was shocked and disappointed to find out that I had no dinner provided that evening and that I would have to look elsewhere. The staff did nothing to try to help or explain; they suggested I go to a konbini (convenience store). It was so disappointing and left me scrambling to find dinner in a very quiet part of town. Yumotoya's reservation system (I found it through Expedia) should include a written notice or warning if a reservation does not include dinner; otherwise it is easy to feel tricked. The kaiseki breakfast was decent and the woman serving me was kind.

If you’d like to experience an authentic ryokan with onsen and terrific kaiseki dining this place is a good choice. Although the facilities show some wear and tear, overall it’s clean and adequately maintained. The staff ensure guests feel welcomed and taken care of. I would stay again.

In suburbs of Matsumoto. Rooms need renovation as on level 6, wallpaper was old and peeling. Ventilation in the bathroom needs improvement as we could smell sewage. Food was plentiful but not as good as we expected. The place is saved by great front counter staff.

This is a very well maintained traditional hot spring inn. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The baths were wonderful after a long day of sightseeing. We opted for the breakfast which was excellent. Highly recommend if you want a taste of traditional Japan. Matsumoto castle was beautiful and we happened to hit a day when there was a local beer festival.
