We had a very enjoyable stay at Tobira Onsen Myojinkan. The service levels here are outstanding and truly embodies the concept of Omotenashi.

The staff knew the details of our meals and program intimately and anticipated our needs accordingly. Special mention to Mizuho who walked us through our check-in and welcome at the lounge, Hina who brought us to pick vegetables at the farm and I Chang and Miki who attended to us over lunch and dinner. Also the team who prepared the BBQ lunch for us at the Gazebo - I would highly recommend that. It was a wonderful experience.

We also tried the sushi-making class and very grateful to head chef Tetsuya Uchiyama and Zhang Qian for giving us such a lovely experience to round off our trip.

We had the opportunity to do a hike beside the hotel to Mt. Hachibuse which was amazing and helped to justify the amount of food we ate.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team here that took care of us and we would absolutely recommend this place to our friends.

Highly recommend. Superb staff, food, room. One of my favorite ryokans.

What a very special place. An oasis of peace and tranquility. Beautiful staff, wonderful onsens and unbelievably good food. What more could you want from life!? The rooms were also beautifully done. Hard to leave.. Special mention of two staff . Iwanami and Kawai Takamura. Thank you both for making our stay even more special!

Wonderful onsen hotel in the countryside near Matsumoto. Easy to get to from Tokyo via train and hotel shuttle. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect. Room was comfortable, food delicious (although Western breakfast was odd) - we recommned asking for the shabu shabu hotpot one night for a change - (Wang is an exceptional hostess in the restaurant. The 3 onsens are breathtaking. No language issues. The hotel shuttle provides easy access to Matsumoto for castle, Yayoi Kusama etc. Highly recommended

On the plus side: the location is magical; the ryokan style rooms are large; the three onsens are lovely - the deep bath one is the best; the service is excellent; the Japanese restaurant is first class and beautiful. On the minus side, our room needed refurbishment as do some of the common areas if Tobira is to retain its Relais & Château status; the French restaurant food is not good enough; there are not a lot of walks available nearby; and, as with many places in Japan, it is surprising that staff still do not have acceptable levels of English in places where international guests are frequent.

Lovely interiors at a Relais & Chateau property. Take the top floor rooms which look out into the mountains. Room is very well designed. Standing onsen is superb. Jap food was good but not spectacular though some very good broths in the line up. Breakfast was simple. Didn’t try the French restaurant. Staff are professional but not warm like the smaller family owned onsens. There’s a nice short walk to a small dam but nothing much to do on the property (which is ideal for a ryokan).

This stay at Tobiraki Onsen Meishinkan was a perfect hot spring experience that I will never forget.

The hotel is located in the mountains and valleys about 40 minutes' drive from Matsumoto. Going up the mountain road, it seems to gradually enter a quiet secret place. The natural environment is excellent, surrounded by forests and streams, where you can really get away from the hustle and bustle and feel the purest relaxation.

The hotel provides a round-trip shuttle service from Matsumoto Station, which is very considerate. Special thanks to Miss Wang who received us, who gave us very meticulous care from the moment we arrived. She not only introduced the hotel facilities in detail, but also paid special attention to our food allergies, and assisted the kitchen in making thoughtful adjustments to breakfast and dinner. The meals were exquisite and delicious, and we felt full of care and sincerity.

There are three hot springs with their own characteristics in the hotel. My favorite one is the semi-open-air standing hot spring. While soaking in it, there are mountains and streams in front of you, as if people and nature are integrated into one. It is the ultimate appointment-based hot spring experience, quiet, private and healing.

This is a hot spring hotel with both high-quality hardware facilities and warm human touch. I will definitely come back here again, and I strongly recommend it to everyone who wants to completely relax and heal their body and mind in nature. 🌿♨️

The reason for this bad review is that the meal at Myojinkan One Night Two Meals is too shabby and simple. This is the worst meal I have ever had in a one night two meals hot spring hotel at this price. It is incomparable to cheaper ones. I was shocked when I saw the dishes served by the staff. I saw three small pieces of wild boar cut as thin as cicada wings, the sashimi was also very thin and small, and the rice was actually salted rice balls. I will post pictures. It may be because I ate too well in Karuizawa Fufu Jingyang Forest. The contrast is too tragic. No matter the plating design and the quality of the ingredients are not good at all, I am alone f ufu stewed a pot of bamboo shoot chicken rice, breakfast was even worse, western restaurant is not as good as Japanese restaurant, at least dinner is served in order, not mushy, this western food feels like no chef put together with semi-finished products, dessert served first, main course was wrongly replaced, there was Calbee cereal, croissants were mushy on the front and even more mushy on the bottom, both the serving service and the chef were very amateur, extra tableware on the table was not removed, the staff was confused when reminded and then removed, breakfast can't be compared with fufu, breakfast there is a perfect enjoyment, the next 5 pictures are fufu's meal, this is the level that 4,000 per person should have. Service ceremony can't be compared with Wanping, Wanping served one by one, bread and butter can be added. The hotel's pick-up and drop-off service and room facilities, including three hot springs, are very good, but the meal is so bad that it can only be badly rated, violating the mutual trust of one stay and two meals. Some details are also uncomfortable. The earliest pick-up time is 3:15 pm, so we arrived at the hotel at 4 pm, which is one hour later than the check-in time. The hair dryers in both the public bath and the room are too bad, the slippers in the room are too bad, there are no cotton pads in the hot spring, and makeup can only be removed by hands. There is no clock in the vertical hot spring, so there is no way to know the time. I will not come again and will not recommend this hotel to others.

It was our favourite hotel in Japan, the service was incredible and the staff was wonderful. The hotel was equipped with a lot of onsens which made the experience even more wonderful. We came here for our honeymoon and it exceeded our expectations, the staff made our time there so special. We are very grateful for a wonderful two days spent there. Will definitely come back and we highly recommend this hotel to anyone that comes in this area as it’s a must!
