Matsumoto, 4467 Azumi, Matsumoto-shi (32 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Love the onsen experience, never in my life would I have realised that the Haori was so comfortable until this trip, if only it snowed, the experience will be a lot better.
The food was nice, it was finger licking good.
Anyways, highly suggest this property if you want the ryokan experience.
We stayed 2 nights and loved this traditional ryokan experience. The tatami floors were incredible and the futons were very comfortable. The staff were considerate and kind. We appreciated the shuttle service and the well appointed building. The traditional japanese food was delicious and bountiful. The location and scenery were magical, peaceful, and transcendent. We visited the nearby kamikochi area...
Reception staff service was excellent. Clearly explains nearby attractions with a map, along with pick-ups/ drop-offs areas, and most importantly the cut-off times. I later came across signs at the Kamikochi station reminding people not to miss the last bus, because you will be stranded there. So, I made sure to buffer some time for me to leave from the Kamikochi station, and other nearby attractions...
A really lovely mountain retreat.
The rooms were very comfortable and had beautiful views of the surrounding mountains/ nature. The rotenburo was hot and comfortable (also tattoo friendly). All meals were excellent! Would highly recommend getting the packed lunch.
Getting there was easy to figure out and staff provided detailed steps in English with how to get back to the ryokan after taking the...
Lovely ryokan just outside of Kamikochi. Such friendly and helpful staff. Tomoko san was very helpful in answering my questions before the stay and while we were here. Great and varied food for breakfast and dinner. Loved the beef sukiyaki in particular! Nice onsen with outside area. Right by the Mount Yake trail head so you can start your trek from the door. Great shuttle service into and back from...
We stayed one night after hiking and it was a wonderful stay! We were met at the door where someone took our bags while we checked in. The woman at reception was so friendly and spoke English. She showed us around and explained how the onsen worked (it was our first time). Our room was very clean and both dinner and breakfast were plentiful. We enjoyed coffee in the beautiful lounge area after breakfast...

The location couldn't get better, very convenient. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant is very polite and helpful. The breakfast is also good, pleased and surprised to see vegan options at the table.
Rooms definitely need improvement, there's a smell not so pleasant and in general it needs to upgrade the furniture, bath, etc.
Comfortable business hotel, just in front of Matsumoto station. The room was small, but clean. Breakfast buffet was good and plenty of different food. There is no parking at the Hotel, have to walk a bit.
Location is strategic. Near to train station. For transit one or two nights it is a value for money hotel. Rooms are small so not suitable for those who brings big luggages. Facility and amenities are complete. Breakfast rooms are also small so must queue. Meals are standard, but nice. Good view from the restaurant.
The hotel is located in an excellent location for those who want to access the bus terminal to Kamikochi or other places because the bus terminal is next to the hotel. The first to third floors are not part of the hotel, and the hotel occupies the 4th to 10th floors. The lobby is on the 10th floor. The hotel staff were very nice and polite. The rooms are in good condition. I really appreciate that...
Very comfortable. It’s near the Matsumoto station. Near the Matsumoto castle, 15 minutes by walking. The view from 10th floor is amazing. There’s combini in the first floor. It’s also budget friendly. The receptionist can speak English.
The place is just fine if your looking for a hotel near the station.
Nice ambiance at the restaurant but the place is a bit old.
The room we had was on 4th floor that have a window but it can't be open even just a lil and i dont feel safe about it.
AC can't adjust well or maybe it it old that's why it's really warm inside the room and really didn't feel comfortable all night..

The hotel room was relatively spacious and the location was very convenient.
The room was a bit small but quite clean. The hygiene was good. Breakfast had a decent variety and quantity, and tasted pretty good – quite rich. The location is about 500 meters from Matsumoto Station, roughly a 7-minute walk.
We managed to stay in Annex room and the room is newly renovated and very comfortable.
The most impressive one was they provide nice green tea/houjicha and the hotel lounge was really comfortable.
Another good thing is they provide a very good local breakfast, the restaurant staffs were friendly and warm.
Hotel provides parking with a fee of ¥900 if not mistaken.
Convenience location with good service
Good matcha
The room is clean
There is a comic room that is open to the public and provides tea and midnight snacks, so that travelers who don't want to go out can also stay in the hotel comfortably.
I stayed for two nights. The service as very good and the staff was very helpful. I was able to leave my bag while I was sightseeing. The room was very clean and comfortable. And the breakfast was excellent with a large variety of food. Great location. About 15 minute walk from train station and Black Castle. Definitely would stay here again.

Nice Onsen hotel in Matsumoto, at the heart of the Armsana Onsen town. Large room for 4 of us with futon to sleep on, very traditional style. Nice onsen hotel that has adequate amenitiess available for use. Parking is a short walk away. Hotel deployed a staff to lead me to the car park wit ample lots.
Near to natural with best onsen in 8th floor. Really love it. Good view from your room.
Near to natural with best onsen in 8th floor. Really love it. Good view from your room.
Very good night view. Clean and comfortable. Recommended
You can see the Northern Alps, the hotel has hot springs, and you can also see the scenery. The street at the door is very quiet and simple, suitable for strolling. There is a bus from Matsumoto Jr Station to the hot spring street.
It was a beautiful hot spring inn from the entrance.
The free space was lovely, the rooms were spacious and the Japanese atmosphere was great.
I chose a mountain view room, so I could see the beautiful scenery of the Alps.
The hot springs, both indoor and outdoor, were available 24 hours a day, so it was a very satisfying hotel.

Very clean, room was extremely spacious and well located nearby good food, relatively close to main attractions and train station (15 min walk)
Parking is not free, even though it is shown as free in the listing. Please be careful before booking.
We are return guests. Very good value for money.
Signboard of the hotel is not visible. Parking facility is away from the hotel premises, could be disadvantage when raining. The room is very small for 3 persons and moldy. The air conditioning is useless, the room is very hot and stuffy and we need to open the window for cool air. Breakfast is too simple.
Lack of amenities like toothbrush&toothpaste,
Lack of map or guide in the hotel where could I find the location of appliances that is free to use like microwave. I find microwave near elavator in the first floor. It's accesible in train station.we took a bus from matsumoto sta. to hotel for 6 mins.
Matsumoto castle is just 4mins walk from hotel.
Great value for money.
Location is perfectly situated between the train/bus station and Matsumoto castle (which is amazing).

Great hotel, shuttle service to the Station but only 9 minutes walk. Breakfast was one of the best i've ever had. My family agrees too. Rooms were small but comfortable.
Very polite personal, great place to stay and breakfast was very good..🫶
Buena Vista was perfect from the moment we walked to the entrance. A very friendly, smartly dressed member of staff greeted us and took us to the check in desk which is in a lovely vibrant reception area. We had quite a small room with no shelves but it was comfortable and had an excellent shower. The breakfasts were in a fairly small area, which makes it feel a little crowded, but we always got...
Quite a grand hotel and we saw various tour groups during our stay here. Location is central and a short walk from the Matsumoto train station. There isn't much to see in Matsumoto itself besides the castle which isn't that big or grand but we used Matsumoto as a base for a day trip to Kamikochi which was beautiful.

The room was very clean and I was able to relax comfortably. The breakfast buffet allowed me to fully enjoy the flavors of Shinshu.
This was a great place to stay for 2 nights in Matsumoto. The twin rooms are great. The standard double is tight but still super clean & comfy. Great location, staff are wonderful.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is looking a little tired but otherwise a great location
The hotel is located near Matsumoto Station and Alpico Bus Terminal, making it convenient for traveling to Kamikochi. The room is clean, the bathroom has good water pressure, and the reception staff are friendly and hospitable. Bicycles are available for free rental.
The staff are very helpful and nice. The hotel is not new but functioning well, the location is convenient.
However, the air conditioner/heating can’t be controlled by me. When the room is hot and I tried to open the window, there are many insects coming in, so I have to choose between hot and insects. That is the worst part.
Convenient location to Matsumoto train station. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

We had a very nice stay at this peaceful hotel. The modern tatami rooms are spacious and well equiped. It was a treat to use the onsen bath every day. The food was truly amazing, one can get to know different tastes of traditional japansese food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. An ideal place to stay if you enjoy hiking!
The hotel is very nice, quiet, large rooms, clean, very good food ... but the customer service was absolutely outstanding: I left my backpack (with laptop) on the bus. The hotel owner immediately got involved, and I received the backpack back within half an hour. Absolutely amazing!
We found the place to be clean and comfortable.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We had no issues
The rooms are small, but far from the smallest we've had on this trip. We were still able to fit in 4 grown men. I personally found the room to be comfortable.
The traditional style meals were great. Dinner was a 3 course meal and we got so much more than expected. I could barely finish it. Breakfast...
Staffs are very friendly. Food is a bit pricy but the quality is beyond excellent.
The location and service are very good, but it's a pity that there is no elevator
The Ryokan is near Sawando bus terminal, about a 3-4 minute drive. The central part of the hotel is older than it appears in the pictures. Notably, there is no private bath in the room, so bathing is limited to the onsen facilities.
Dinner has a mediocre taste, rated 6/10. The meat is chewy, and the fish seems neither fresh nor tender

I liked it a lot. Good for the price. Really good deal, big rooms, private bathroom. Onsen with amenities. Free parking. Super kind staff. It’s a little old, but it’s great.
Nice Riokan
Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful, although didn't speak much english. The only downside was the facility was a bit worn -stained carpets, peeling wallpaper, and musty smell
Food was awsome! Property is a bit run down (peeling wallpaper, stained carpets, musty smell).
This is out of town, but I’m a sucker for traditional onsen ryokan. This place has aged well, rooms are spacious, there is a private onsen on the top floor for 40min usage, and there are a couple of great restaurants 10mins walking distance around. Lawson out the front. Staff were excellent. Only stayed 1 night but would go back. Great if you have a car.
This is a cute ver traditional ryokan. However it is in dire need of a remodel. Many stains on the carpets and walls, ripped wallpaper, more mold in the baths than I’m comfortable with. The rooms themselves are nice and clean but all the amenities are quite old. Has enough parking for only 3 cars so keep that in mind. Very very friendly staff though, and the food is wonderful! One big problem however...
The hotel overall, and my room specifically, had a lot of wear and tear: the western portion of my room had sizable stains on the carpet and splatter marks on the walls (The tatami portion of the room was fine). The hallway carpet was also stained and lumpy in places and the wallpaper was peeling. The 4th-floor bath also showed signs of wear; slats were missing from the trellis over the outdoor portion...

Wonderful onsen hotel in the countryside near Matsumoto. Easy to get to from Tokyo via train and hotel shuttle. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect. On the plus side: the location is magical; the ryokan style rooms are large; the three onsens are lovely - the deep bath one is the best; the service is excellent; the Japanese restaurant is first class and beautiful. On the minus side, our room needed refurbishment as do some of the common areas if Tobira is to retain its Relais & Château status; the French restaurant food is not good enough; there...

The food was good.
The bathroom was small and could only fit three people.
There are relatively many places to eat and drink around the hotel, but there are no convenience stores, which is a bit inconvenient.
There were very few foreigners, which was great.
Breakfast was also delicious.
It felt old, but clean.
The unit bath was the size of a small unit bath in a studio apartment, so there was little space to put things and it was difficult to use.
The table was also small, and all the equipment, including the TV, kettle, and charger, was placed on it, so I got ready feeling the space was cramped.
Breakfast was included, but for hygiene reasons, we were not allowed to take it out of...
The facility itself feels a little old, but it seems to have been well-cleaned and was very clean.

Breakfast was a buffet style, and I felt like there were a lot of missing items, or rather, they weren't replenished in time.

Convenient location and breakfast was good
I booked the Matsumoto Yorozuya during a one-day layover in Matsumoto while on a hiking trip in the Highlands. It's a small but lovely place, just a five-minute walk from Matsumoto Station. The simple breakfast is worth mentioning – not a huge variety, but I really enjoyed it; very Japanese.

Not great value for money; 3000 RMB for two people for New Year's Eve, including one night's stay and two meals.

This is a traditional hot spring inn. The rooms are clean and the Japanese-style futons are heavy and sturdy, allowing for a good night's sleep. The hot springs are open 24 hours a day, so you can bathe at any time. It was a luxury to have the small open-air bath all to myself. There were times when the wifi was difficult to connect to.
Highly recommended, a traditional Japanese hotel with a beautiful Japanese garden near the reception. We also enjoyed a traditional multi-course dinner – very impressive! Pleasant music plays from speakers in the hallways.
We spent just one night in this typical Japanese ryokan with the half board option. We only had dinner because breakfast was at 8 (ok, traditions but it's still a holiday!!). Very friendly staff and more or less pleasant dinner. We didn't appreciate the futon, uncomfortable and not compatible with my back pain. Nice experience in the onsen.
