Matsumoto, 2-3-16 Fukashi (in the centre) 🧭 Map
The room was great, very clean, and the staff were polite. They cleaned it every day. The breakfast was delicious too. It's not far from the train station, and there's a convenience store nearby, as well as Matsumoto Castle, all within walking distance. There are also plenty of restaurants around. I would definitely stay here again if I have the chance.
The service was good and the price was affordable. The heating was excellent; the AC unit got really warm. I appreciated not needing a key card for electricity, as it allowed me to charge devices while out. However, the other facilities were pretty standard, and the decor was outdated. Some areas were even cracked and poorly maintained. Breakfast was free, and the bread was delicious, though it was...
The value for money isn't great. The room was really small and the bathroom had a bit of an odor. Breakfast was a buffet with not much variety, but the taste was decent.
Goods location, car parking with fee.
Very friendly front counter, very large room at a great price, left bags a few hours before check in easily, bed comfy, good soft linen, easy to use a/c, standard Japanese buffet (didn't have long enough time to properly enjoy, but had everything, meat noodles miso soup etc), with surprisingly good coffee (filter) and fresh juice, with short walk to station to grab a train out in the morning 👍
Outdated rooms, crowded bathroom and spaces. Very small beds. Nice staff and free breakfast.

we can see the ryokan is dated but is very well maintained in good condition. onsen outdoor was kind kind of slippery and there were insects in the water. the scenery was however beautiful. and service was a really good. we were greeted by a male staff, full of smile, who seems to be one of the few who speaks english. he gave us good explanation on the food and was very friendly. the foods were delicious
This 400-year-old Japanese hot spring hotel, despite many of its bathhouse wooden panels being very old, pays great attention to detail. I stayed in winter, and fresh snow covered the rooftops like a layer of cream. The water in the hotel's main public bath was a pale blue due to the Shirahone Onsen's rich sulfur content. Soaking in it made my skin very smooth, though there was a strong sulfur smell...
27dec2025, no snow day however delight with the region covered with snow such beautiful like fairy tale.
Be careful when drive up to Ryokan the road is narrow and icing. made sure ur car is with winter tyre. also preferable 4wd, i rent the 2wd with winter tyre, drivable but really need skill and careful driving.
Don't miss and dont' be shy for the mixed bath is a very enjoying scenery bathing outdoor...
We stayed there from 25 to 27 October.
The food, the onsen, the view.
We loved the experience!!!!
On top of that all the staff is absolutely amazing and friendly. We are really glad that we stayed here.
We would like to leave a special thanks to Miss Yumi! She was the BEST! Super thoughtful and sweet. Thank you so much for everything. Big hug from Portugal!
Very beautiful Onsen Ryokan at Japanese Alps. Absolutely the highlight of our trip! I was staying there with my mom for one night 8-9.4.2025. The service was sublime! The room we were in was beautiful and spacious.
As for the Onsen itself, the water felt really good and sulphuric, you could smell it the moment you stepped out of the buss. Water was beautiful blue color and felt really nice on skin...
I booked the new building but it was actually the old building. Avoid it. It is better to book directly on the hotel's official website. You will not make mistakes in the room type and it is cheaper. The room type issue made me and the hotel very embarrassed. It was really embarrassing to the whole country. The hotel itself is good, the hot spring is very refreshing, and I will visit again.

Matsumoto, 4202-6 Shirahone Onsen Azumi (31 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The Shirahone Onsen is located 1h by car from the Matsumoto station (19,000 yen by taxi), in the mountains, far from everything. You come here for one thing only: relax at the Onsen.
The common areas of the hotel are not fancy and would benefit from a refreshing, but the Japanese style room is very spacious and we had a soothing view on the stream. The Onsen facilities are great and the experience...
Spectacular view, great hospitality & friendly staff, we booked room with halfboard which was nice (dinner is 10/10 but breakfast is pretty simple), despite being the smallest size of unit mix but 10tatami room is big enough for 4ppl with bags, the building is single corridor design thus all guest rooms have moutain view. Onsen is superb! W/M seperate onsen, both provided indoor & outdoor baht and...
In the deep mountains and forests, the road is a bit difficult to walk after the snow, but everything else is ok!
It couldn't be better. The store picked up and dropped off the car, more than 2200, three people, one night and two parking, banquet dinner standard.
The room is very big and nice, with a big window, the view is really good, and the food is especially delicious! Breakfast and dinner are very good, and there is a shuttle bus at the bus station, which is really good.
Very good, there is free beer from 15:00 to 17:00, the room is hygienic, the outdoor bath is comfortable, and the dinner is rich and delicious

Matsumoto, Satoyamabe Yunohara 101 (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
It was good but I probably won't go again.
I stayed here for a night in March with my relatives. 1. Each meal was carefully prepared and delicious. Our plan included handmade soba noodles at the end of the meal, but rice was not included, but they were happy to provide it when we asked. All the dishes went well with rice, so we were very satisfied, even though we don't drink alcohol. 2. The bath water was very soft to the touch and the temperature...
When I told them in advance that I am elderly and have a small appetite, they arranged for me to have some horse meat tataki and delicious soba noodles. The regular dinner for the second night was too much for a senior (lol). Chablis white wine ◎ and barrel-fermented wine ◎ from the nearby Yamabe Winery. There was a wide selection of alcoholic drinks, including soba shochu with soba yuwari ◎. It was...
The room was spacious and had a hot spring bath, so I had a comfortable stay.
very nice and peaceful ryokan, all staff are so friendly. Breakfast is simple and delicious. I feel so much comfortable staying here. ♡
Very stylish and picturesque ryokan-type hotel, with beds, fully and equipped rooms with toilets. Also, it has a large, very nice onsen with hot springs water. The only flaw is its location, rather remote and reachable mostly by taxi.

Outdoor temperature was around –3°C, but the ryokan felt even colder because some sections were open to the outdoors. The walkway from the rooms to the onsen is uncovered, so there’s no way to avoid the cold. I had to wear my winter jacket just to walk to the public bath.
There is a private bath option, but the one assigned to me was far too hot — I couldn’t even step into the water.
The public bath...
The accommodation was good and the food was delicious.
The small details were very thoughtful and made me feel good.
Excellent breakfast, dinner and spa experience. Exceeded expectations, the hotel itself is old and shows signs of wear and tear but the service is excellent and the hotel has atmosphere.
Dinner and breakfast were delicious and filling.
Despite its retro atmosphere, the building was very clean and I had a pleasant stay.
The food was also really delicious ^_^

Excellent family run hotel - I would highly recommend a stay here - the onsen baths are large and comfortable - the staff are genuinely caring
Great place to stay, Shared bathroom and needs to climb stairs to the room too. Staffs were helpful to carry the luggage to prevent the wheels from damaging the ryokans. Overall a great experience!
Super clean and friendly Japanese family who runs it. The ryokan has number of rooms but they only take limited groups each night so can uphold the quality and services to customers. Meals are really impressive and what they proud of. The onsen is quite small but clean and not crowd. Feeling good.
The owner was very kind and nice.
As soon as I arrived, my wife was in rapid succession.
There are stairs in the inn, and I think it might be difficult for elderly people, but it was a good inn, including that.
Dinner wasn't that big. Have a meal. The bath was nice too.
I stayed the night before to visit Utsukushigahara Kogen and Kirigamine.
It's an old-fashioned building, and the stairs are steep, so it's hard to say it's barrier-free, so I think it's difficult to use.
The bath was a moderate size and a small bath, and I used the men's and women's time shift system. The spring quality was very good and I was able to take a very pleasant bath.
For dinner, we had the...
An excellent natural hot springs in old (Showa era) style ryokan inn. Reasonable, unpretentious, at home, quiet and relaxing - with a mere sub $100 per person for 2 meals a night.

Friendly staff.
Location very far from centre of city, and there is no hotel shuttle.
Very quiet. No blinds or light filter on the tatami room windows - sun woke me up at 5am each day!
A very cozy hotel in a quiet area of Matsumoto. The onsen was great. The staff, although not very fluent in English, were always willing to help and wait while I typed a question into Google Translate. Getting to and from the hotel was a bit inconvenient, as buses run every half hour, but the views around the hotel made it worthwhile.
Ample space for parking. It’s a quiet place. Enjoyed the hot spring during my stay.
The location is excellent and very convenient for getting around. The room was clean and comfortable, and I really appreciated that pajamas were provided. Great stay overall!
The hotel is clean and comfortable. The service is also very good.
Good vibes, good service mind and good for rest.

Matsumoto, 1-29-3 Asamaonsen (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
A small, charming, and cozy hot spring inn. It features a private, semi-open-air bath where you can enjoy a tranquil soak. Our room was a traditional Japanese style, clean, refreshing, and just the right size.
The staff were very friendly.
The location is conveniently situated on the main hot spring path. It's visible as soon as you enter Asama Onsen. We then cycled to Kamigata Shrine and other attractions...
This was a ryokan I visited while traveling with a friend. The rooms were very clean, and the tea provided in each room was delicious. The staff were always friendly, and the breakfast was of excellent quality. The hot springs were warm and clean, and the facilities were well-equipped. I would definitely return the next time I visit Matsumoto!
Staffs are friendly, breakfast is good, the location is 10 mins drive from the castle
A very nice Japanese-style hotel, like an ancestral home, well decorated and maintained. The whole building has two floors, and the restaurant is on the second floor. Breakfast is a typical Japanese breakfast, and the latest one is 8:30. There should be guest rooms on the first and second floors, and there are private and public bathrooms on the first floor. The hot spring pool is very clean, but also...
I stayed the night before Utsukushigahara. It takes less than 30 minutes by bus from Matsumoto Station!
The young staff feel very good.
The private bath that flows directly from the source was a little too hot, but the atmosphere of the Kurazukuri indoor bath in the large communal bath made me feel good.
The room is also very clean.
It may depend on the plan, but it was the best combination for me...
I stayed at GW.
The private open-air bath was large, and I was satisfied with the number and taste of the food.
There were some young employees, but I'm working hard and I like it.
It is a ryokan that you will want to stay again if you go nearby.

The hotel offer a traditional Japanese settings. It wasn’t crowded and we got to spend a really quality time here. Breakfast and dinner were served.
The only downside is the lack of in room shower.
Everything is perfect at this small but cozy hotel. The room is neat and clean. The foot bath on the balcony is relaxing and you can listen to the sound of the brooks next to the hotel while enjoying the foot bath. Accommodation experience at this hotel makes our three days trip at Kamikochi wonderful and unforgettable.
This small inn offers the best food, wine, and hot springs♨️, and the service is wonderful. It's perfect for solo travelers, and I'd definitely recommend it as a place I'd like to visit again!
Fortunate to have stayed at Keiryu-so Shiorie as it was perfectly located near to the Sawando Bus terminal for easy access to Kamikochi. The taxi rank is right next to the ryokan so it was easy for us to grab a taxi to Kamikochi at 5 am to catch the sunrise and beat the crowd.

We hired a car from Matsumoto especially to experience this authentic ryokan experience for one night. It was worth it. Fabulous night with our grown up daughter. Amazing food lovingly prepared, a good and large traditional room, and a very nice onsen. Very friendly and hospitable hosts. Traditional Japanese inn, rich breakfast and dinner, different for two days. The enthusiastic and kind old boss provided services beyond expectations. There is a pick-up service from the hot spring and the station.
Phenomenal! Best breakfast ever . Extremely nice people . The room was very large with private onsen. Views over the city and mountains. Picturesque garden . Reasonably priced . Plus shuttle on demand . What else can you ask ? :)
Altamente recomendado 🤩🤩
Older, traditional ryokan with beautiful views. The staff was so friendly and accommodating even with limited English. Dinner and breakfast were a great experience. The garden, while not in perfect condition, is still beautiful.
I spend most of my time in hotels and frankly this one is the best I've ever been to. Excellent service and great room. I regret that we didn't stay longer.
Wonderful Ryokan. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. We really enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast while staying there. Perfect for those seeking a truly traditional Japanese experience- but keep in mind, it really is very traditional. The food may feel quite extreme for Western tastes, the onsens are relaxing but on the older side, and the staff’s English is limited
I had the pleasure of staying at Oiwakeya Hotel, a beautiful ryokan that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility and tradition. The on-site onsen (hot spring) was the perfect way to unwind and relax.

The location is easy is find. It’s a traditional japanese style ryokan. Even though most of the signs and instructions are in japanese, the service staff took the time to show and explain the facilities and amenities available to us in English. The service staff also took time to explain all the dishes served and the meal was delicious. Would consider to stay in the ryokan again.
This ryokan was a surprising discovery. It's 3-star rating did not reflect the outstanding value it delivered. The Oiwakeya is a spotlessly clean and has an enduring aesthetic that fully conveys the ryokan experience (tatami lined rooms; comfortable futons; shoji screens; exceptional and visually stunning dinners and breakfasts; an invigorating onsen (hot spring pool) ; and much more). Most importantly...

I stayed here with my family because the hotel had high reviews and offered a discount.
Our room was in water-saving mode, but it was relatively empty, so we were able to relax in the hot spring water. I was happy with the in-room dining and the service to provide a kettle of boiled hot spring water.
It's a bit disappointing that the shuttle service is conditional.
This is a very quiet inn.
I was able to relax and unwind.
The room was very spacious, and it had been renovated and was very clean.
The hot spring bath isn't very large, but because there are few guest rooms, I was able to enjoy it almost like having it all to myself.
However, you have to go down stairs to get to the bath, so it might be difficult for elderly people.
I searched for it on the in-room dining site and finally found it.
The building itself is old and it's easy to get lost, but the emergency exit was right next to our room, and most importantly, it was a very clean and refreshing inn with a very good cleaning routine.

This guesthouse has a strong昭和 (Showa-era) vibe, probably family-run. There's a small communal bath for soaking if you enjoy authentic Japanese experiences. It offers excellent value for money. It's likely a good fit for backpackers.
Wonderful place; kind staff. The room was Japanese style, there is also a private hot spring and bikes for free. Highly recommended!
Structure is a bit old, and the floor rooms can get a bit cold but staff was kind and replaced ours with a 1st floor one. The ryokan is very warm and can be reserved for private experience.
The owner cannot speak English but tried to communicate to us. We’re impressed by the customer service and cleanliness. Eventhough we needed to use the shared toilet and bathroom, they are clean and vacant all the time. There is a few parking space at the ryokan with free of charge.
