Takayama, 1134 Echigo-cho (in the centre) 🧭 Map
Hotel was thoughtful by sending where to take shuttle bus from station before time. Food was delicious. View from room is spectacular. Pools and sauna was great with cold weather & winter views!
Room Views We are pleased to inform you that all guest rooms offer an Alpine mountain view, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery during your stay.
Although the hotel is a bit old, it's well-maintained and the service is very friendly. The cleanliness is good too. The only downside is the lack of power outlets, which was a bit inconvenient. The view from the window was great, and the hot springs, which I enjoyed for two nights, were also very nice. The milk was delicious!
Love the Japanese style room although everything is low to the ground and requires a lot of bending. Bed is absent during the day…
The hotel offers a shuttle service, which was great. We arrived early and were able to check in ahead of time. It was incredibly relaxing to soak in the hot spring while enjoying the snowy views. The service was excellent, and the breakfast was quite abundant.
Reportedly run by Marriott. The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of both Japanese and Western dishes. The rooms are spacious, though a little dated. The onsen (hot spring) experience was fantastic, especially the one on the 5th floor. They rotate the men's and women's baths, and the views are absolutely stunning.

Takayama, 2-180 Nishinoisshiki-machi (in the centre) 🧭 Map
This hotel is a 10-minute walk from the west exit of Takayama Station. If you have luggage, you can take the hotel's shuttle bus, which is very convenient for both trains and the Nohi bus. We visited the Shinhotaka Ropeway and Shirakawa-go, and it was great to return to the hotel and relax in the hot springs. Compared to the onsen hotels in Gero, this hotel is more modern, and the breakfast is better...
The standard room wasn't too small, and the quality of this hot spring hotel is indeed excellent. There are two good restaurants downstairs. The hot spring water quality is also superb. I'll definitely recommend it to my friends next time.
I booked the Takayama Green Hotel, and for a standard price, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a hot spring hotel! I could enjoy a very relaxing soak. The hotel service was also excellent, and they even gave us discount coupons for the neighboring product hall.
western restauarant, Chinese restaurant, buffet breakfast are good
Very good onsen hotel, with 2 type of onsen available in the hotel , the basement onsen is more luxury and modern where the ground floor one is more vintage and old school. Easy access to shirakawa & shinhotaka ropeway.
Very satisfied with our stay! The room was quite spacious, and the hot spring was very comfortable and not too crowded. The only downside is that the hotel is a bit far from the train station. It was quite tiring walking with luggage. I later found out they might have a free shuttle service, but no one at the hotel mentioned it proactively.

Very good location. Very near to Takayama station and bus staion to Shirakawa-go. Have Jacuzzi and sauna room for relaxing. Good breakfast.
Hotel is located very near the train station and bus terminal. Takayama is a small town and accessible by foot. The old town and places of interest are within walking distance from the hotel.
Less than a 5-minute walk from the train and bus stations. Be aware that the hotel sign displays the English name, not the Chinese name as translated on the booking. The room was clean and well-equipped, just as expected.
very convinient location and clean hotel for a reasonable rate. Parking is available for an extra fee.
Hotel is clean, very good size room, close to the takayama station. The surrounding is very quite . Not so far from morning market.
Only five minutes away from the Takayama train station. The hotel was very comfortable, quiet, and clean. On the second floor, there was a mist sauna and hot tub. Free coffee in the restaurant starting from around noon. Happy with our stay.

🌿 A Secluded Paradise in Okuhida Mountains The moment I stepped into Okuhida Sakurakan, I was captivated by its authentic old folk-house architectural style and the rich scent of wood. The hotel's overall design blends perfectly with the surrounding natural landscape, making it feel like staying in an exquisite forest museum. The rooms are spacious and full of Zen, with magnificent views of the Northern...
The best onsen ryokan I’ve ever been to. If I could gatekeep this place, I would! Love every part of it, so zen so clean and quiet. The food is amazing especially the beef. The onsen is amazing, they have public and private indoor and outdoor onsens, you don’t even have to worry about not getting the private onsen slots. They are always available. Love the outdoor onsen the most! I will be back...
The environment is great. Very quiet... the food is also good.
Very comfortable stay. Call the hotel on arrival at Hirayu Onsen bus interchange for free pick up. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. We appreciated the free amenities like probiotic drink, milk and ice popsicles. Onsen was top notch, especially in winter.
A perfect hot spring hotel. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the room had a private hot spring. The room was very spacious, and it was about a 10-minute walk to the ski resort. There are also many attractions nearby. Highly recommended!
great facilities and great half board meals (B’fast and dinner) and excellent staffs service quality.. We definitely will come back again.

We stayed here for one night to experience a Japanese Ryokan and to make use of the onsen. This is a small, family-run Ryokan. On arrival, you are given a kimono and slippers to wear, as no shoes are allowed inside. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We had a traditional Japanese dinner here which consisted of several courses and we came away full! The onsen was very relaxing and I had it to myself...
Really friendly and nice touches like choosing your own kimono for wear around the hotel. Onsen just had 1 bathing place but it was quiet, nice and clean.
We had the best stay at Royokan Asunaro. Very comfortable room and beds. The staff is sublime, the Japanese style breakfast I would come back for it was so good. Location is perfect for exploring Takayama and other areas nearby.
We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Asunaro. The onsen was relaxing, the traditional tatami rooms were beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. I had a medical emergency and had to go to the hospital one evening so we were not able to make it back in time for the curfew (11pm), but they kept the doors open for us. The location is also very convenient, within a short walk from the bus and train stations...
Very very warm and friendly staffs!! Definitely one of the cleanest and best maintained hotel I have visited, and worths a second visit next time. Just a 10 mins short walk and you can reach all popular attractions in Takayama including the Old Street.
We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

The room is spacious. Dinner is delicious. The futon is very comfortable to sleep.
Great ryokan experience. Food was great. Would recommend.
If visiting Japan then you can't not stay in a traditional Ryokan for at least part of your stay! This one is ideally situated about a 10 minute flat walk from the train station (so very easy for visiting other local towns like Hida Furukawa like we did) and a few minutes walk to the pedestrianised streets with their wooden traditional buildings. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room ...
Recommend to book this experience. It's not just a hotel, you pay for experience.
Excellent!! Highly recommended!!! The service was superb!!!
We stayed for 2 nights at Ryokan Tanabe as part of a 2 week tour of Japan. The Ryokan is a 90 year old traditional Japanese inn. The rooms are tatami mat, with futons on the floor, and all the rituals of traditional Japanese life. Bathing is i the onsen, public baths in the hot springs. Service was absolutely excellent, and the ryokan had a really homely and cosy feels, in part because of the narrow...

Its the best hotel that i have stayed by far for my Japan trip this time. Takayama is so beautiful even the hotel itself is so comfortable to stay. Recommended 😎
Super quaint ! Was a bit worried that its an inn and might lack amenities. Am so pleasantly surprised hy the hospitality crew!
1. The staff were very friendly and helped us with our luggage to our room. 2. The toilet and bathroom were separate, and most importantly, there were double sinks, which is great for groups. 3. The candy in the lobby reception area was delicious. 4. It's conveniently located between the old street and the station.
It was close to the city, the streets were beautiful and lively, and the food was delicious⭐️
A very comfortable hotel, it is about a 10-minute walk to the old JR station, Takayama Old Street and Miyagawa Morning Market. I was very happy to be able to see the taro flowers in Miyagawa in late April.
breakfast was amazing with a cosy snowfall view while eating at the main hall. 11/10 recommendation. would recommend family and friends to choose this anytime.

The hotel has a very Japanese vibe. The room was quite spacious, a mix of Japanese and Western styles. In the evening, there was sake available, which created a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were all very nice, and the location was excellent, right next to the old town.
This might be the first time I've stayed at a hotel that blends Japanese and Western styles so perfectly. The room wasn't small, and the size of the beds, the space between them, and the bedding all offered a high degree of comfort and convenience. I specifically came to see the Takayama Festival this time, and coincidentally, there were several floats parked right outside the hotel entrance for everyone...
They have a pub with live music in the evening, which is a nice touch. The rooms are pretty standard but have a certain quality to them. I'd recommend it for travelers who have specific expectations for their accommodation.
A great place to relax with an onsen, close to tourist attractions. Very convenient with everything you need. The service was excellent. I'll definitely be back to stay again.
Best place to old town sightseeing. Have convenience stores near hotel.
Nice stay walking distance to many areas

Excellent! Very thoughtful, the room was large, comfortable, and clean. They proactively arranged pick-up and drop-off for both nights, taking us to the area near the station and old town. I was surprised that breakfast and dinner were different on both nights. The stairs next to the entrance lead down to the old town, and they even had ropes to help you down to prevent falls – so considerate!
Never had so satisfying hotel stay for business or holiday. This hotel want to make you don't even go out from hotel, just enjoy the calm and, silent private onsen in room plus the carefully curated breakfast and dinner Kaiseki type experiences.
The food was great and quite varied, and the wagyu beef was delicious. The private onsen was excellent.
An amazing hotel in Takayama, and the hot springs are incredibly relaxing! The location is halfway up the mountain, so if you're traveling on foot, be prepared for a bit of a workout. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the meals are also delicious! The staff are friendly and attentive. This is a hotel I'd definitely want to visit again! 🥰
The third time staying in this hotel over the past 5 years. Disappointingly, no improvement was seen, particularly the quality of food presumably to be of high quality for luxurious rooms with private onsen. Routinized Japanese Haute cuisine with no surprise, four small pieces of signature Hida wagyu could only be seen as a decoration. Yet the price was relatively high with over five hundred US dollars...
Very nice stay for families with elderlies and kids.

A very calm and high quality Ryokan. We stayed for two nights in a traditional Japanese room, which I wasn’t looking forward to but really enjoyed. The futon matresses (make sure you use 2) were very comfortable and the simplicity of the room was very characterful. However access to comfy chairs would be appreciated. We loved the meals in the private dining room. There were four of us and we enjoyed...
English not spoken. It was very difficult to communicate with the front desk. Fortunately, we had a fabulous attendant, “Sana.” Food, even on the “western” menu was primarily fish and tofu. That’s ok if it’s your first night, but frankly, I am Sick of raw fish. The ryokan was pretty well located relative to other activities. Transportation access was good. In short, the food variety made our visit...
Wow, Hidatei Hanougi may have been our best stay in over a month traveling Japan, and we've been to some nice places. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. In this case, that starts with the greeting you receive on arrival and just keeps going. Our Japanese style room was huge with private onsen and zen garden. The public onsens are spacious and extremely well-appointed, including one set...
Charming ryokan in north Takayama a good walk from the old town area. Our room had a private courtyard with onsen - great for relaxing at the end of a day of exploring. Several restaurants - we ate breakfast there. Remember to take your shoes off in the entry and use the slippers!
The hotel is located in the Takayama area and is a standard Japanese hotel. , The hotel has a batch of koi fish, which are amazingly expensive. [Kaisaki dinner] with Hida beef shabu-shabu is of high standard, a standard Kyoto cuisine, with high-quality ingredients, delicious taste, and exquisite utensils. Mizuda beef is well-deserved and worth a try.
The fourth and best ryokan we have ever visited in Japan. We had an own hot bath in the private garden, and the room was very spacious. As we stayed two nights we had two dinners and breakfasts. Our first dinner was kaiseki and second shobu-shobu. Both were excellent. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfast, so my advice is to choose Japanese, as it was great, but Western just good. Very good location. Near to Takayama Station. However, bad experience with the tatami bed bug bites. The low table with heated blanket had bad smell. Suggest hotel to do a better clean for these items in the room.
It’s a very nice place, 3mins walk from Nohi bus station. Very aesthetic Japanese layout, each room are themed with different Japanese cultures. The staffs are also very friendly and helpful and can’t complaint about the level of service.
The Wi-Fi was terrible; there was none in the room initially. They fixed it later, and I got two bars of signal, but it was still poor. There's no hot spring here; what they call a hot spring is just tap water. The bedding was awful; I got bitten all over and felt very itchy, and the duvet cover kept coming off the comforter. This price is just not worth it; my child's skin was red and itchy from bites
Superb location, and I truly appreciated the ryokan’s omotenashi hospitality.
Wonderful hotel with wonderful staff and private onsen!

Whilst we are glad we stayed here for the laughs and stories we will dine out on, it missed the bar by a big way as a Westerner it wasn’t designed for us. We did embrace the meal the first night. The food was not to our taste. Other places we felt comfortable eating Japanese food but not for us here. The lady who spoke English… used a translation app which was fine but she was extremely passive aggressive...
This is a lovely, traditional ryokan, which means the furnishings and bathrooms and such are a bit dated. It is very quiet and both our private hot springs and the public one were comfortable. Enjoyed the hospitality overall, though few staff speak English very well.
A nice little Ryokan. The food was beautifully presented and delicious - only hiccup was that despite the fact we’d told them in advance that a couple of us didn’t eat seafood - we were served seafood at each meal - besides that, the beef was delicious and good serving portions. The lady who looked after us during our stay was very nice and always happy. The location is slightly out of the main hustle...
We stayed in four ryokans during our trip to Japan and this was easily the best of them, despite its official three-star grading (small TVs and some tired furnishings may explain that), set apart from the rest because of its simply outstanding hospitality and service. Staff here not only welcome guests with genuine warmth but also work hard to anticipate needs. Two examples from many: 1) We arrived...
A pleasant Ryokan. Food was beautifully presented and quite good. Some of the little dishes were excellent, others less so. Our lady who was looking after us was called Emily and was very kind and friendly and helpful. The location is slightly out of the main hustle and bustle but they do provide a shuttle service. Was a nice experience but somehow was expecting a little more really. Worthy of a solid...
I have no other ryokan onsen places to compare this to, but this place was simply outstanding. Only 15 rooms. Ours had our own private onsen on the porch with continuously flowing hot spring water; had no need to use the larger communal hotel onsens. They give you slippers and kimonos to wear to meals and pajamas. Dinner was a 12 course Kaiseki gourmet extravaganza with at least 25 different items...

A very unique and traditional Ryokan !!
Everything about our stay was delightful! Delicious, healthy food, exceptional staff, and a beautiful inn.
Hidden gem Ryokan experience This was a highlight of our roundtrip. Everything was above expectations and a very special and relxed stay in a beautiful ryokan with excellent staff. Gourmet traditional dinner and private onsen time included.
An exceptional and authentic Japanese experience. Worth going out of your way to visit. The atmosphere is simply stunning
We stayed two nights at Wanasato and it was great. The room was huge with great views on the river and a nice bathroom. The Japnese style dinners were excellent (be ready for some unusual tastes) and the service was perfect. Private access to the onsen was great. Overall a great experience. On the improvement side, the exterior of the ryokan is disappointing and the garden could be better maintained
We had a really wonderful time at Wanosato experiencing winter and snow in authentic Japanese setting. The staff were really welcoming and made our stay special, every detail of our stay was taken care of. We had the half-board with dinner and breakfast included. Really tasty dishes and tailored for us. Will be looking forward to visiting again.

Absolutely wonderful experience! The hosts were wonderful people! There are 6 rooms and 6 private baths (2 outdoor, 4 indoor) — it is RARE to find a ryokan with this kind of room-to-bath ratio.
