The room was very clean and tidy. All the staff was polite and very helpful. Good location, near to the station. The buffet breakfast was delicious with great variety. Will come again.
The rooms are quite spacious, and the hot springs are very comfortable, with one on the 9th floor and one on B1. The open-air jacuzzi on the rooftop is incredibly relaxing, especially soaking in it during winter – it's fantastic! The service is also excellent. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I visit.
The location is good and sightseeing is within walking distance. The hotel is old but clean, and there are two large public baths, including the rooftop tub bath, which was very pleasant.
I took advantage of the breakfast buffet, which had a wide variety of food and was all delicious. The service was also very polite. Thank you very much.
Excellent location with lots of good restaurants around. Booked the Japanese & Western style room with private bath. Having a living room with tatami matts & sitting furniture was a nice touch. The bath is excellent with proper dressing room. Will definitely recommend this hotel and looking forward to my next visit!
What a huge and beautiful hotel! The rooms are spacious and fully equipped. The onsen (hot spring) includes a Japanese-style bath, an open-air bath, and an additional tub-style onsen level. The open-air bath is beautiful with stunning scenery. The only drawback is that the hotel rooms were slightly uncleaned, but it was acceptable. Also, I would appreciate it if the onsen facilities included massage...

The semi-double room was slightly small, it was hard to walk in the room with our luggages laid out. The bed was clean and comfortable. The toilet was also clean and has hot water. The hotel is at the another side of train station , around 15mins walk to the main shopping street , unexpectedly there is hot stone bath available in the hotel, got free massage chair for to use, room is clean , staffs are friendly
Hotel is far from train station 700-800 meter. Breakfast is good food.
The hotel room was very comfortable and clean, with tatami mats. We stayed in a triple room, and there was plenty of space. The shower was great, and the location was super convenient, right next to McDonald's near Takayama Station.
Very near the JR station and can walk to other sightseeing spots in Takayama. The room is quite spacious and clean.
A decent hotel in Takayama. It's suitable for a one-night stopover. Parking is a bit expensive, but you can use the nearby public parking lot. Plenty of food and shopping options around. Cleanliness is okay.

However, the hotel room is very clean, big and beautiful.
Hotel staffs r friendly helpful and we have a smooth communication as all of them can speak English.
Overall I love this place Takayama and I enjoyed staying...
Free parking — the car park is right in front of the hotel’s main entrance, very convenient for drivers.
The room was clean. The three‑bed room was enough for our family (2 adults, a 12‑year‑old, a 9‑year‑old, and a 5‑year‑old). Breakfast was good. The onsen was also nice and clean. They even provide complimentary popsicles after the onsen — my kids loved them.
The staff were very polite and helpful...
The room was very clean, and there's a hot spring on the rooftop. Most importantly, the transportation is super convenient.
Beyond being a bit of a walk from the bus station, everything else was excellent! It's clean and tidy, and the hot springs are wonderfully relaxing. The triple room is perfect for families with kids! Highly recommended.
The hotel is organised and clean. The rest of the hotel guests are polite and nice, we (family with three kids) went into the family private onsen room immediately as others let us use the room first. Free popsicles available. Walkable to the morning markets.
The hotel room was spacious and clean. They offered complimentary drinks upon arrival in the afternoon, including free beer! After a relaxing hot spring bath, there were free cold drinks available. The surrounding area is lovely, and it's just a short walk to the attractions. Getting to Takayama Station was also super convenient.

Alright place, can only praise the free parking and probably the "cheapest" in this touristy area. Otherwise the onsen is pretty dirty (mouldy) and no free breakfast.
I stayed for a night. The hot spring and breakfast were my highlights during the stay. The room door doesn't lock automatically so I had to lock it up with a key by myself. It was a bit of a hassle but overall good.
This time we are traveling by car, so it is very convenient to stay in the mountains. The hotel provides free parking spaces and a large parking lot, so there is no need to worry about not having parking spaces. The hotel hot spring is not big, but few people use it.
There is a shuttle bus from the west exit of Takayama Station to the hotel, which takes 7-10 minutes. It is very convenient. The hotel hot spring is great.
The location is at the top of a mountain, suitable for self-driving travelers, but there are many tour groups, and there are no restaurant options nearby. The room has a beautiful view and is comfortable, but do not choose the smoking floor. It is extremely smelly.
Nice hotel with onsen. View from my room is great. Complimentary shutter to JR station

This is the best value hotel I've ever stayed at. It's less than a 10-minute walk from the JR station – just turn right, walk straight, cross the street at the traffic light, and keep going straight. Excellent service. Staff were friendly and helpful. Short walk to the train station. Enjoyed their onsen.
Loved the onsen! Location is also wonderful. Room is not amazing but you wouldn’t be spending time in it anyway - spend more time outside and in the onsen!
Clean room Gorgious view and Nice location not far from Jr station.
It was a good and uncomplicated stay

Very good location. Very near to Takayama station and bus staion to Shirakawa-go. Have Jacuzzi and sauna room for relaxing. Good breakfast.
Hotel is located very near the train station and bus terminal. Takayama is a small town and accessible by foot. The old town and places of interest are within walking distance from the hotel.
Less than a 5-minute walk from the train and bus stations. Be aware that the hotel sign displays the English name, not the Chinese name as translated on the booking. The room was clean and well-equipped, just as expected.
very convinient location and clean hotel for a reasonable rate. Parking is available for an extra fee.
Hotel is clean, very good size room, close to the takayama station. The surrounding is very quite . Not so far from morning market.
Only five minutes away from the Takayama train station. The hotel was very comfortable, quiet, and clean. On the second floor, there was a mist sauna and hot tub. Free coffee in the restaurant starting from around noon. Happy with our stay.

The moment I stepped into Okuhida Sakurakan, I was captivated by its authentic old folk-house architectural style and the rich scent of wood. The best onsen ryokan I’ve ever been to. If I could gatekeep this place, I would! Love every part of it, so zen so clean and quiet. The food is amazing especially the beef.
The onsen is amazing, they have public and private indoor and outdoor onsens, you don’t even have to worry about not getting the private onsen slots. They are always available. Love the outdoor onsen the most!
I will be back...
The environment is great. Very quiet... the food is also good.
Very comfortable stay. Call the hotel on arrival at Hirayu Onsen bus interchange for free pick up. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. We appreciated the free amenities like probiotic drink, milk and ice popsicles. Onsen was top notch, especially in winter.
A perfect hot spring hotel. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the room had a private hot spring. The room was very spacious, and it was about a 10-minute walk to the ski resort. There are also many attractions nearby. Highly recommended!

Excellent! Very thoughtful, the room was large, comfortable, and clean. They proactively arranged pick-up and drop-off for both nights, taking us to the area near the station and old town. I was surprised that breakfast and dinner were different on both nights. The stairs next to the entrance lead down to the old town, and they even had ropes to help you down to prevent falls – so considerate!
Never had so satisfying hotel stay for business or holiday. This hotel want to make you don't even go out from hotel, just enjoy the calm and, silent private onsen in room plus the carefully curated breakfast and dinner Kaiseki type experiences.
The food was great and quite varied, and the wagyu beef was delicious. The private onsen was excellent.
An amazing hotel in Takayama, and the hot springs are incredibly relaxing! The location is halfway up the mountain, so if you're traveling on foot, be prepared for a bit of a workout. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the meals are also delicious! The staff are friendly and attentive. This is a hotel I'd definitely want to visit again! 🥰
The third time staying in this hotel over the past 5 years. Disappointingly, no improvement was seen, particularly the quality of food presumably to be of high quality for luxurious rooms with private onsen. Routinized Japanese Haute cuisine with no surprise, four small pieces of signature Hida wagyu could only be seen as a decoration. Yet the price was relatively high with over five hundred US dollars...
Very nice stay for families with elderlies and kids.

The room was spacious and had a jacuzzi, which was a big plus. The staff were excellent and very attentive. Both breakfast and dinner were great, with a nice sense of occasion. The food tasted pretty good too. Definitely worth a visit!
Great location but everything was very dated, the TV, western sofa set, even the car that drove us to the train station. We stayed in a room with an indoor onset which we enjoyed. The kaiseki and breakfast was very good.
Hida-Takayama Onsen Hotel is top-tier among all the onsen hotels I've stayed at in Japan. It's incredibly clean, ideally located very close to Takayama's main attractions, and just a short walk from Takayama Station.
The best Japanese hotel I've ever stayed in. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the peaceful stay at the Ryokan and the liked the quiet surroundings. The private open air onsen was fabulous. The morning walks in the woods behind the Ryokan was great. This was followed by the sumptuous breakfast provided by the Ryokan to start our day of walking the trails which are nearby.
I made a reservation on the day.
The front desk staff were friendly and the building was clean and nice.
Surrounded by greenery, with a superb outdoor onsen.
Impeccable service, spacious room.
All toiletries and bathroom accessories are provided at reception.
There are several great things about this ryokan
1) Best of all is the hida beef kaiseki dinner - its truly hida beef (they displayed certifications and it taste different from normal beef) in great quantity per person - which also in turn makes the ryokan cost very economical
2) Location is easily accessible by both public transport and if you are driving they have ample parking space

Our stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. It’s definitely a “must-visit” if you’re looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation — even a short stay of 2–3 nights is enough to make it special....

Our family of four enjoyed our one night stay at Ryokan Seiryu during our trip to Takayama in September. We really enjoyed our stay at the traditional Ryokan Seiryu! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating and you feel that they really go out of their way to give you the best experience possible. A very calm and high quality Ryokan. We stayed for two nights in a traditional Japanese room, which I wasn’t looking forward to but really enjoyed. English not spoken. It was very difficult to communicate with the front desk. Fortunately, we had a fabulous attendant, “Sana.” Food, even on the “western” menu was primarily fish and tofu. Wow, Hidatei Hanougi may have been our best stay in over a month traveling Japan, and we've been to some nice places. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Charming ryokan in north Takayama a good walk from the old town area. Our room had a private courtyard with onsen - great for relaxing at the end of a day of exploring. Several restaurants - we ate breakfast there. Remember to take your shoes off in the entry and use the slippers!
The hotel is located in the Takayama area and is a standard Japanese hotel. ,
The hotel has a batch of koi fish, which are amazingly expensive.
[Kaisaki dinner] with Hida beef shabu-shabu is of high standard, a standard Kyoto cuisine, with high-quality ingredients, delicious taste, and exquisite utensils. Mizuda beef is well-deserved and worth a try.
The fourth and best ryokan we have ever visited in Japan. We had an own hot bath in the private garden, and the room was very spacious. As we stayed two nights we had two dinners and breakfasts. Our first dinner was kaiseki and second shobu-shobu. Both were excellent. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfast, so my advice is to choose Japanese, as it was great, but Western just good. Very good location. Near to Takayama Station. However, bad experience with the tatami bed bug bites. The low table with heated blanket had bad smell. Suggest hotel to do a better clean for these items in the room.
It’s a very nice place, 3mins walk from Nohi bus station.
Very aesthetic Japanese layout, each room are themed with different Japanese cultures.
The staffs are also very friendly and helpful and can’t complaint about the level of service.
The Wi-Fi was terrible; there was none in the room initially. They fixed it later, and I got two bars of signal, but it was still poor. There's no hot spring here; what they call a hot spring is just tap water. The bedding was awful; I got bitten all over and felt very itchy, and the duvet cover kept coming off the comforter. Good quiet corner of Takayama, but still close enough to necessities such as drug store, supermarkets and convenience stores and just a short distance away to attractions in Takayama makes this quaint and charming traditional ryokan a recommended stay here in Takayama
Lovely onsen, with a sauna and an outdoor garden bath. Very friendly and dedicated staff, with limited English but no communication difficulties. It's a bit far from the action in Takayama old town, but there are some superb restaurants nearby.
They upgraded us from the cheapest to the most expensive, was my favorite place to stay/visit. Also offered to drive us to the bus on departure. Such kind staff 10/10!

We stayed here for one night to experience a Japanese Ryokan and to make use of the onsen. This is a small, family-run Ryokan. On arrival, you are given a kimono and slippers to wear, as no shoes are allowed inside. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We had a traditional Japanese dinner here which consisted of several courses and we came away full! The onsen was very relaxing and I had it to myself...
Really friendly and nice touches like choosing your own kimono for wear around the hotel. Onsen just had 1 bathing place but it was quiet, nice and clean.
We had the best stay at Royokan Asunaro. Very comfortable room and beds.

Whilst we are glad we stayed here for the laughs and stories we will dine out on, it missed the bar by a big way as a Westerner it wasn’t designed for us. We did embrace the meal the first night. This is a lovely, traditional ryokan, which means the furnishings and bathrooms and such are a bit dated. It is very quiet and both our private hot springs and the public one were comfortable. Enjoyed the hospitality overall, though few staff speak English very well.
A nice little Ryokan. The food was beautifully presented and delicious - only hiccup was that despite the fact we’d told them in advance that a couple of us didn’t eat seafood - we were served seafood at each meal - besides that, the beef was delicious and good serving portions. We stayed in four ryokans during our trip to Japan and this was easily the best of them, despite its official three-star grading (small TVs and some tired furnishings may explain that), set apart from the rest because of its simply outstanding hospitality and service. Staff here not only welcome guests with genuine warmth but also work hard to anticipate needs. Two examples from many: 1) We arrived...
A pleasant Ryokan. Food was beautifully presented and quite good. Some of the little dishes were excellent, others less so. Our lady who was looking after us was called Emily and was very kind and friendly and helpful. The location is slightly out of the main hustle and bustle but they do provide a shuttle service. Was a nice experience but somehow was expecting a little more really. Worthy of a solid...
I have no other ryokan onsen places to compare this to, but this place was simply outstanding. Only 15 rooms. Ours had our own private onsen on the porch with continuously flowing hot spring water; had no need to use the larger communal hotel onsens. They give you slippers and kimonos to wear to meals and pajamas. Dinner was a 12 course Kaiseki gourmet extravaganza with at least 25 different items...

The location and environment are excellent, the hygiene is good, the breakfast and dinner are plentiful, there is ample parking, the staff are friendly, it's a great hotel, the rooms are comfortable, and check-in is quick.
The only good thing about this place is its excellent location, right next to the ropeway station and convenient for bus travel. The natural scenery is decent, but for a hot spring town, it's quite ordinary. On top of that, it's not very friendly to Chinese guests; the dining area for them is relegated to a small separate room. The 'one meal, two nights' package was also very disappointing. I don't...
Had a wonderful stay! Even though the room was a bit old-fashioned, it was still very comfortable overall. The location was convenient, and the hot springs were fantastic.
Location is great for traveling Shinhotaka Ropeway
Surprisingly it was very good...varieties of food for dinner and breakfast.clean place.free ticket and lunch to Shinhotaka ropeway.i will definitely come back back again..small issue is that the reception difficulty understanding english other thant everything good.
Great location. Right nest to Ropeway station so you can easily take the nohi bus directly from Takayama to the hotel. Hotel is quite old but well maintained don’t forget to book the dinner if you arrive late cause there’s no other restaurant nearby. The onsen will give you great experience with indoor and outdoor pools. We had great time there 👍👍
