Very satisfied with our stay! The room was quite spacious, and the hot spring was very comfortable and not too crowded. The only downside is that the hotel is a bit far from the train station
The hotel lobby is grand, elegant, and luxurious. The front desk staff were warm and welcoming, providing excellent explanations and recommendations for nearby shopping and scenic spots
The standard room wasn't too small, and the quality of this hot spring hotel is indeed excellent. There are two good restaurants downstairs. The hot spring water quality is also superb
Very good onsen hotel, with 2 type of onsen available in the hotel , the basement onsen is more luxury and modern where the ground floor one is more vintage and old school. Easy access to shirakawa & shinhotaka ropeway.
I booked the Takayama Green Hotel, and for a standard price, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a hot spring hotel! I could enjoy a very relaxing soak
It was quite tiring walking with luggage. I later found out they might have a free shuttle service, but no one at the hotel mentioned it proactively

The open-air jacuzzi on the rooftop is incredibly relaxing, especially soaking in it during winter – it's fantastic! The service is also excellent. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I visit
The rooms are quite spacious, and the hot springs are very comfortable, with one on the 9th floor and one on B1
Excellent location with lots of good restaurants around. Booked the Japanese & Western style room with private bath. Having a living room with tatami matts & sitting furniture was a nice touch
The location is good and sightseeing is within walking distance. The hotel is old but clean, and there are two large public baths, including the rooftop tub bath, which was very pleasant
Check some day tour that available from Takayama Bus Center which is very easy to join. Many restaurants nearby and souvenir shops at the main street. Big room and more than enough space to put our 2 big luggage
The room was very clean and tidy. All the staff was polite and very helpful. Good location, near to the station. The buffet breakfast was delicious with great variety. Will come again.

The front desk staff were incredibly warm and polite; check-in was super quick. They even bowed at the elevator until the doors closed. The room was a bit more spacious than typical single rooms and well-equipped
There was a wardrobe and pajamas, which you could use for hot springs. The room was very clean, and toiletries like toothbrushes could be picked up in the lobby, where you could also choose your preferred pillow
The room was actually warm enough even without the heater on; I turned it on the first night and woke up feeling too hot, so I didn't use it on subsequent nights. Breakfast was surprisingly varied and delicious
If you're visiting in winter, I highly recommend this place – Shirakawa-go (Gassho-zukuri village) in the snow is absolutely beautiful. All in all, this is the most cost-effective hotel I've ever experienced
Loved the onsen! Location is also wonderful. Room is not amazing but you wouldn’t be spending time in it anyway - spend more time outside and in the onsen!
Great location, it near train station, and just opposite to a convenience store. The public bath is also nice, it operate until 1am everyday

The outdoor hot spring was a bit small; it would be hard to enjoy if there were many people. We ran into a ********* tour group, but thankfully we managed to go at different times
Beautiful hotel with wonderful service. The onsens were well cared for and we had them to ourselves. The views of the mountains and river from the onsen were spectacular. The food was great and transitional to Japan
The assigned room was not the one I booked. Instead of East Wing with a mountain view, I got assigned to South Wing, not sure if it is a mountain view but definitely not what I expected (I will attach a photo)
But generally, I still had a fantastic experience there. The location is great for me because it is near Shinhotaka Ropeway. The open air onsen was beautiful, I liked it a lot, and went every night
The food was fantastic too! I am not well versed with Japanese food culture, but basically it was the traditional course meal (only dinner) you probably will have in a decent Japanese restaurant
Extremely satisfied! The hot springs were fantastic, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The service attitude was excellent, and the location was very convenient

Friendly front desk. Arrived early to the hotel and they allowed me to place my luggage until check in.
5 mins walk from JR train station & easy to find. include onsen though a small & simple one
The hotel staff attitude is good. I love this hotel very much.
3pm-7pm free drinks, whiskey plum wine ect was good! But I would never stay at this hotel again even if it’s half price
She has been working there for 3 months. Rooms here are very small indeed , bathroom is basically an airplane toilet
welcome drink enjoyable and a lot to select (including sake, and other alcoholic drink, but with limited time period only staffs are very good esp the ladies breakfast good, and plenty of choice

I stayed at GW, but it's cold enough to heat up at night. But at night, the stars looked very beautiful. There is also a forest walk course, so if you are lucky you can meet animals
I had a great time with my family in the great outdoors. The starry sky was amazing. It was cool in the mornings and evenings, so we didn't need air conditioning.
Worth the drive to experience some quiet with nature during this time of pandemic. Wish we could have stayed another night but we had work work work. We barbecued and kids played at the pool the next day
Poor interior decoration, dilapidated
It was 38 degrees when we had lunch at Shirakawa go, in this resort, it was 16 degrees after it rained. No need for an AC in the summer. And this alone was worth the trip up the mountains
My only issue was that they only offered disposable plates and chopsticks. I was expecting to be able to use dishes. Had i known, i would have brought with me some for the kids

Excellent! Very thoughtful, the room was large, comfortable, and clean. They proactively arranged pick-up and drop-off for both nights, taking us to the area near the station and old town
I was surprised that breakfast and dinner were different on both nights. The stairs next to the entrance lead down to the old town, and they even had ropes to help you down to prevent falls – so considerate!
This hotel want to make you don't even go out from hotel, just enjoy the calm and, silent private onsen in room plus the carefully curated breakfast and dinner Kaiseki type experiences
An amazing hotel in Takayama, and the hot springs are incredibly relaxing! The location is halfway up the mountain, so if you're traveling on foot, be prepared for a bit of a workout
Excellent everything, from the food to the facilities, had a great time there. There are multilingual staff members so language barrier is not an issue at all.
We enjoyed a fantastic 2 night stay at Hoshokaku. The staff were lovely and the view from our balcony onsen overlooking the town and up into the mountains was fabulous

Great location but everything was very dated, the TV, western sofa set, even the car that drove us to the train station. We stayed in a room with an indoor onset which we enjoyed. The kaiseki and breakfast was very good.
Hida-Takayama Onsen Hotel is top-tier among all the onsen hotels I've stayed at in Japan. It's incredibly clean, ideally located very close to Takayama's main attractions, and just a short walk from Takayama Station.
Although these suites aren't as newly renovated as the 'Heki Suites,' they come with a jacuzzi! I didn't even bother with the hotel's onsen because of it. My first jacuzzi experience was absolutely amazing
All the drinks in the mini-fridge were complimentary and could be taken with you. Plus, there was a capsule coffee machine in the room with four free capsule coffee flavors. The view from the living room was fantastic
Service is incredibly considerate, foods are delicate. Before we set off, the hotel would send a enquiry email to understand our needs, and they offer the pick up service if they are available.
You pull down the blinds, lie back, and watch the small TV in the opposite bathroom, while powerful jets massage your feet. The toiletries were all Sekkisei or POLA (for use in the hotel only, not to be taken)

Good quiet corner of Takayama, but still close enough to necessities such as drug store, supermarkets and convenience stores and just a short distance away to attractions in Takayama makes this quaint and charming traditional ryokan a recommended stay here in Takayama
It was our first time using an Onsen and we had a good time using the baths after a long day. The room is clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and kind and gave us a ride to the station after we checked out
A traditional, old-fashioned hotel, but very well maintained, with lovely outdoor baths. We were there during the autumn festival, and the hotel offered a free shuttle service to and from the festival
They upgraded us from the cheapest to the most expensive, was my favorite place to stay/visit. Also offered to drive us to the bus on departure. Such kind staff 10/10!
Lovely onsen, with a sauna and an outdoor garden bath. Very friendly and dedicated staff, with limited English but no communication difficulties
It's a bit far from the action in Takayama old town, but there are some superb restaurants nearby

My room was spacious and spotless. My window looked out toward the beautiful Japanese Alps, nice to wake up to! I would highly recommend booking the meal plans for both dinners and breakfasts
the inn is a bit of a walk from town (very do-able), but it was so nice to eat right there, and the meals were just fantastic! Staff is great, the baths are wonderful
It is a hotel where you can experience traditional style of Japanese room and shared onsen. The hotel was clean, both in the room and shared spaces. Amenities provided were sufficient
Clean. Public bath. Far from everything. No breakfast and no diner available.
Really nice Ryokan! Room was clean, breakfast and dinner was really delicious and I love the Onsen!

On November 3rd, 6 people from 3 generations took care of us. The gradation of the trees was very beautiful and the open-air bath was the best
Of course, there was no convenience store or anything, but there was a Nescafe machine in the lounge that I could use anytime, and I was very satisfied with the complimentary alcohol. Thank you for your help again
The food was one after another, high quality and beautiful, yet all delicious. The person who brought the meals was kind and courteous and even treated my elderly father, making it a very enjoyable dinner
I was able to fulfill my filial piety. While I was having a drink on the terrace, I could see deer and really felt the nature
Enjoyed the spacious room - not typical in Japan. The spa and setting were great. The traditional breakfast was a treat.

The staffs are also very friendly and helpful and can’t complaint about the level of service
As soon as you enter the hotel, you are immediately attracted by the strong Japanese style, and the service staff respectfully provided this Information, received tea and desserts, and then took us to choose the color of the yukata
Very good location. Near to Takayama Station. However, bad experience with the tatami bed bug bites. The low table with heated blanket had bad smell. Suggest hotel to do a better clean for these items in the room.
Wonderful home-like Japanese style hotel Staffs are very nice and they will remember their customers Their response to help are very quick that you don’t even need to wait Breakfast are yummy with good service Private bath is clean and high privacy
The service was exceptional, every detail was handled with utmost care. As we were leaving, it started to snow heavily, and a staff member actually ran out to give us four umbrellas
The hotel is beautiful and all the staff are lovely. I was really impressed by the attentive service and the variety of activities available at the hotel. It's a shame I only stayed one night

We stayed here for one night to experience a Japanese Ryokan and to make use of the onsen. This is a small, family-run Ryokan. On arrival, you are given a kimono and slippers to wear, as no shoes are allowed inside
We had a traditional Japanese dinner here which consisted of several courses and we came away full! The onsen was very relaxing and I had it to myself most of the time (I went in 3 times!)
We had the best stay at Royokan Asunaro. Very comfortable room and beds. The staff is sublime, the Japanese style breakfast I would come back for it was so good
Really friendly and nice touches like choosing your own kimono for wear around the hotel. Onsen just had 1 bathing place but it was quiet, nice and clean.
We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Asunaro. The onsen was relaxing, the traditional tatami rooms were beautiful, and the staff was very friendly
If you are looking for a traditional Japanese Ryokan, located close to Takayama's main sights, this makes for an ideal spot

Hidden gem Ryokan experience This was a highlight of our roundtrip. Everything was above expectations and a very special and relxed stay in a beautiful ryokan with excellent staff
We had a really wonderful time at Wanosato experiencing winter and snow in authentic Japanese setting. The staff were really welcoming and made our stay special, every detail of our stay was taken care of
The Japnese style dinners were excellent (be ready for some unusual tastes) and the service was perfect. Private access to the onsen was great
An exceptional and authentic Japanese experience. Worth going out of your way to visit. The atmosphere is simply stunning
We stayed two nights at Wanasato and it was great. The room was huge with great views on the river and a nice bathroom
On the improvement side, the exterior of the ryokan is disappointing and the garden could be better maintained

The 1-out-of-4 indoor onsens I happened to try also had fantastic forest views through the window, though I'm not sure about the other three. All in all, the onsens were a truly magical experience
Absolutely wonderful experience! The hosts were wonderful people! There are 6 rooms and 6 private baths (2 outdoor, 4 indoor) — it is RARE to find a ryokan with this kind of room-to-bath ratio
Our stay at Nakaodaira was a true highlight of our trip to Japan. After a long day hiking Kamikochi, we arrived to Nakaodaira exhausted and soaking wet from the rain. We were greeted with kindness and exceptional service
They even put our shoes in a special dryer and returned them to us the next day cleaned and warmed! The food was delicious, and your party is always guaranteed a private hot spring as there are 6 for the 6 guest rooms
We could have easily stayed there for hours just soaking in the tranquility. The rooms are spacious and exceptionally comfortable, with the perfect balance between traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern comfort
The private onsens are absolutely incredible — beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and incredibly relaxing. It felt like having our own private spa surrounded by calm and nature

The hotel is beautiful with a great atmosphere and a spectacular view. It features an outdoor onsen, including one women-only bath, two men-only baths, and a mixed-gender bath (swimwear is provided for the mixed bath)
I visited late at night and it was very quiet with no other guests around. For those who are not comfortable with onsen bathing, there are also indoor shower rooms and hot baths separated for men and women
The hotel is located very close to the Shinhotaka Ropeway—just one bus stop away. The location is deep in the forest, which makes it incredibly beautiful and peaceful
The staff are very kind and helpful. Although they do not speak much English, all instructions and guidance are clearly provided in English
The view is amazing. I'll definitely be back.
However, transportation can be inconvenient without a private car, so it’s recommended to check the bus schedule in advance if you plan to go out for meals

Facilities are well maintained but could usee some upgrades. Food were good to very good-Staffs are excellent. Our wish is at least one english speaking channel on TV. Thanks the Owner and staffs for our good time
We enjoyed the peaceful stay at the Ryokan and the liked the quiet surroundings. The private open air onsen was fabulous. The morning walks in the woods behind the Ryokan was great
There are several great things about this ryokan 1) Best of all is the hida beef kaiseki dinner - its truly hida beef (they displayed certifications and it taste different from normal beef) in great quantity per person - which also in turn makes the ryokan cost very economical 2) Location is easily accessible by both public transport and if you are driving they have ample parking space 3) A lot...
So perhaps with that context, a few of these downsides are understandable Overall not a bad stay but would only recommend to less fussy travellers
Our room comfortable though not very spacious. It's enough, but nothing more. The reserved dinner was nice and delicious and they allowed us to bring our own food for our son
This was followed by the sumptuous breakfast provided by the Ryokan to start our day of walking the trails which are nearby

Absolutely loved this onsen stay! It’s perfectly located near the bus terminal and the waterfall, with stunning views right from the room. The food was amazing — beautifully prepared and full of flavor
The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food for dinner and breakfast are delicious. We stayed in the clean and nice Japanese tatami room. There is 1 public indoor and 1 public outdoor onsen
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoy authentic Japanese style meals and hot spring. The family run this hotel with a lot of thoughtful care and hospitality
I only wish I had booked at least two nights to enjoy it even more! This place is definitely on my return list — and I strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

10 minutes drive from central Takayama. I stayed one night and enjoyed real onsen. The price was reasonable and I was offered free breakfast .
It was amazing for the price. The spacious open-air bath was also great. However, the wifi reception was poor and cut out frequently.
Free shuttle from the Takayama train station. The outdoor hot spring baths were so relaxing. Two individual tubs and one shared bath
The lounge area in the locker rooms had recliners to relax on which was nice while I awaited for my shuttle
There was also a sauna inside. The open-air baths had cypress and ceramic baths, but they were small, so I felt they were not very usable when it was crowded. The open-air baths were also relatively small
It was evening, or rather night, but the lobby was spacious and there was a restaurant inside, so I was able to relax. It was called a hot spring, but it seemed to be a simple alkaline mineral spring

One of the best Japanese pension lodging It’s my 2nd visit, the last was 10 years ago The food kept me coming back The bread was sooo good
The inn is beautifully decorated in Japanese minimalist style which just calms the soul. I really appreciated the shared, private onsen and took advantage of it several times in the two days I was there
What a lovely inn, owned by a husband and wife team, is perfect for unplugging and just relaxing, whether by the wood burning stoves, on the porch or taking a walk in the park just down the hill
Let’s talk about the food- outstanding!!! Breakfast was delicious for sure, but dinner was next level: five courses of exquisitely prepared and presented food. And if you do the wine pairing? Oooh
The accommodation is very beautiful, surrounded by nature, and exceptionally clean and well maintained. The bedroom features large glass windows that offer a lovely view of the trees
