Miyako Resort Okushima Aqua Forest in Shima

We visited during the week for 3 nights in April and stayed in one of the cottages which are gorgeous and slightly away from the main resort building. It was nice and quiet amongst some trees (the killer views are from the main building lounge areas).

The main disappointment with the cabin was the surrounding lighting overnight was able to get in, especially the lower room was quite bright at night with no curtains only the traditional paper screens.

April felt a little like an off-peak period for this resort and the region. So the whole resort felt a little on the abandoned side during the day more guests appeared for breakfast and dinner buffet, which were great but nothing was really open for lunch (turns out you need to order a lunch before 8pm the night before if you want to eat!)

We were able to take the complimentary hotel shuttle bus, which doesn't appear on the English version of the website but leaves from Kashikojima station roughly every hour or two hours during the day. It would have been more convenient to be driving for this region in general.

They have a fully staffed pool for an additional fee and hire swimwear is available. It was good (No tattoos sign at entry).

They have an observatory which was staffed on a clear night and we were able to view the moon, Venus and Mars which was neat.

Staff were all lovely and accommodating of our poor Japanese language competency. Overall this was a pretty good experience for us to escape to the regions for some relaxing wilderness time after Kyoto and Tokyo.

It was a wonderful place. The beautiful sea, white sand, sky, and stars in the night sky were a storm of emotions. The room was spacious and clean, with full glass windows, so if you time it right, you can see the beautiful sunset from your room. The large public bath was a little far, but the hot spring was great. I would definitely like to stay again.

Loved it, except for one thing, tattoos are not allowed in Onsens.

The location is great.
Unfortunately, the filter for the air purifier in the room was full of mold, so I had it replaced, but it was still full of mold.

We stayed here as a group of four, including three adult friends and one four-year-old child. The pool can be used until 6pm on the same day and from 10am to 2pm the following day for an additional fee, and there was a jet relaxation corner in the indoor heated pool, so it was very refreshing.
The hot spring afterwards was free and fun.

The view of the bay at sunset was spectacular.

The hotel is located in the tourist area. The facilities are a bit old, but it is clean. The door is opened with a key, which is quite nostalgic. The bathing uses natural springs. When we arrived late, there were not many people. The experience was good.

The beach was a 10 minute walk away and it was a very nice resort hotel!
