Richmond Hotel Sendai in Sendai

The location is excellent. It's just two blocks away from Sendai Station. It is close enough yet not directly facing all the buzz. Because it is newly renovated, so it is very modern and clean. The room is huge in Japanese standard. There is a study table and a coffee table, so it is just right for mine and wife's need. I must mention the freebies corner. There are soft drinks, coffee, tea, soup, ice-cream and a lot of tidbits, and a huge guest lounge where you can rest and chilled before going back to the room. Also must mention is the toiletries corner where you can collect whatever you need. Just spoilt with choices. Another worth mention is the lady traffic controller who direct car parking gave good and clear instructions. The counter Japanese personnel who was not good in English tried her best to explain everything about the hotel to us. I can see from her expression that she was making all the effort she can get. There was a Taiwanese staff who managed to explain things in Mandarin. Good work. Thumbs-up.

This hotel is about an 8-minute walk from Sendai Station, so it’s not too far. Since the station is quite large, the distance feels reasonable, and the location isn’t bad at all! The hotel has been recently renovated, so everything looks fresh and clean. Although the staff’s English isn’t very fluent, they are always smiling, polite, and willing to help.

The hotel doesn’t have an onsen (hot spring), but I was still very satisfied. There’s a lounge area where you can help yourself to coffee, drinks, and even ice cream. After being out all day, coming back for a drink or two is a real treat!

Another highlight is the amenities they provide: shampoo, toothbrushes, facial masks, cleansing oil, even diapers—and you can take what you need freely. I also noticed they offer different types of pillows, and everyone seemed very disciplined, only taking what they needed.

I originally booked a smaller room and was aware it wasn’t very spacious. The design has some flaws: there’s a sofa near the window that takes up a lot of space, making it hard for two people to use the desk or work on a computer. Later on, we paid a bit more to upgrade to a bigger room, and we were much more satisfied.

The mattress and pillows were a bit too firm for my taste, but I understand that’s a matter of personal preference—some people might like that level of firmness. The best part is that they let you choose from different pillows, though the mattress can’t be changed.

Cleaning is done every three days, which I think is environmentally friendly—a big plus in my book! There are restaurants and izakayas right across the street, which is really convenient. The hotel also has washing machines, and you can check on the TV when a machine is available—that’s something other hotels should copy! Sure will come back again!

This hotel is very near the Sendai station. I went there with a 3 yo. It is within walkable distance to the Sendai station. When we retrieved luggage after a short day trip to nearby town, we had the option of taking a bus at a bus stop few steps away from the hotel to station too, which is very helpful. The bus runs every few minutes.
Just be careful not to go to a wrong Richmond branch hotel. The building is viewable right from the station. I like the breakfast and free services available. The staffs are all very helpful and kind. They are willing to speak English and prepare pamphlet in multi languages.

The price is reasonable. Eventhough the hotel is old, but the services was nice. When you check in, they'll give you free items such as face mask, lotion, face wash and etc. The room is quite big too. Not too far from the Sendai station. Nice.

Clean room, comfortable bed, adequate choices from the breakfast buffet.

I was just crashing as an overnight on a business trip. It was comfortable enough, it was only a couple days ago but I can't remember much detail!
