Reviews
What a terrible stay and a shame to end our otherwise great Mexico trip like this. So noisy. After 1 terrible night we noticed that the window did not shut completely and we informed reception about this. She said she would have it checked/fixed. When we returned in the evening: no note or update. But someone clearly went inside because the window was even more broken now and more noice came out. Reception first refused to change us, but then eventually they miracously found an available room. One without windows/natural light. Well at least we could sleap quietely right? Unfortunately not at all. It was so noisy inside as well, with druk people shouting their entire life story over the coffee machine one floor higher at 4 o'clock in the night. We not even got a sorry and nobody bothered to ask us how are stay was. Clearly nobody in this hotel cares. O and breakfast is outside, good to know when it is 4 degrees in the morning.
Pros:
The staff are great, especially breakfast staff. They are friendly and attentive. The complimentary breakfast is pretty good. Eggs, a meat, beans, salsa, fruits, yogurt. It was a good way to start each day. The location is pretty good for exploring the tourist parts of the city. We walked to the Zocalo, anthropology museum, Roma Norte restaurants.
Cons:
Noise. The hotel is on Av. Reforma, which is a very busy street. Expect lots of street noise (motorcycles, sirens, etc.). That is to be somewhat expected in a city and probably true of any hotel along that street (though other hotels might have better noise proofing). For us, the added problem was we were on the 4th floor, which is where the open air terrace is. This lets in a lot of noise from the nightclub next door, with loud music until 3 or 4am. It is also where breakfast is served, so starting around 6:30am you hear the pans and dishes of breakfast being set up, and then people eating breakfast. We barely slept during our 3 nights because of excessive noise. They need to find a way to reduce noise for those 4th floor rooms.
We also paid for a balcony, thinking we'd have a view. But it just looked down into an alley. And the building across the alley is under construction, so sitting on the balcony meant listening to construction and being awkwardly near the construction workers.
Lastly, they give you two small water bottles each day. They need a way for guests to fill their water bottles with filtered water. We had to keep buying disposable water bottles.
My only advice to make your stay better is to bring earplugs to sleep, I'm sure I couldn't have done without mine.
