Budget Dam Hotel in Amsterdam

The elevator isn't working, the stairs are very steep and bad.

stairs extremely steep, you could hear people in the room next door. Duvet had a spot of blood on it. Room was clean, laudry and cleaning done everyday and the location is great!

The best thing about this hotel is its location—just a 2-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station, making it super convenient. However, that’s about where the positives end. When we arrived, there was no one at reception, no bell or buzzer to get anyone’s attention, and we waited 25 minutes before someone finally appeared with no apology, just a casual “I was doing a room inspection.” Not a great first impression. The room itself was tiny but at least the bedding was clean. The pillows, however, were awful—more like overstuffed sofa cushions. The curtains had cigarette burns all over them, which wasn’t exactly reassuring. I stayed in Room 401 on the top floor, and getting there was a workout in itself. The stairs were extremely steep and narrow, making it a struggle to go up and down. Cleanliness was another big issue. While the rooms were being cleaned, the hallways were left in a complete mess, with rubbish all over the floors, making it so you had to climb over the trash just to get past. To make matters worse, one cleaner left a hoover plugged in with the wire stretched across the top of the stairs, about 20 inches off the floor—a major trip hazard. The bathroom was okay, nothing special but functional. Unlike some reviews I read, my room did have a window, and I’ll say the view was probably the best thing about the stay. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. For the price, you’d be better off staying in a hostel. This place just isn’t worth the money.

This is an absolute dump. At best, the rooms are no better than a cramped, dingy cell. Cleanliness is non-existent, the beds are a disaster, the rooms are noticeably slanted, there's an unpleasant odor, and the bathrooms are in a truly squalid state. This might be acceptable for a backpacker in India, but certainly not in Amsterdam. The only redeeming quality is the location. I do not recommend it.

Sadly I couldn't possibly recommend this hotel. There was a mixup and I was checked out of my room a day early and all my stuff removed. Whilst I did get it back I had to wait 24 hours to do so - in the meantime, I was told this my fault, to get out of my room and my remaining belongings were removed and dumped in reception. Not familiar with such a low-level service - I would not stay again.
