Description

Hotel Príncipe Real is a boutique 4-star hotel located in Lisbon’s historic center. Built as a single building and renovated in 2005, it offers 18 rooms including Deluxe Double rooms, Suites, Double Suites, and Double Suites with city views. Guests can expect comfortable, spacious rooms with air conditioning, heating, and non-smoking options. The hotel provides free WiFi, luggage storage, a 24-hour front desk, and laundry services for a fee. A bar and onsite restaurant serve guests, with breakfast available a la carte and optionally delivered to rooms. The staff are frequently praised for their friendliness and helpful local tips. While parking is not available despite some listings suggesting otherwise, the hotel offers car hire and bike rental services. The location sits on a steep hill, which some guests note as challenging but rewarding due to the nearby attractions and nightlife.

Location

The hotel is situated at Rua da Alegria, 53, approximately 6 km from Lisbon Portela International Airport. It lies near Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, a scenic viewpoint about 210 meters away, providing panoramic city views. Several notable restaurants are within 200 meters, including Jardim dos Sentidos (137 m), The Decadente (208 m), and Restaurante 100 Maneiras (213 m). The hotel’s uphill position places it roughly a 6-15 minute walk from Avenida da Liberdade and public transport options. Although the street is quiet, the hill’s incline requires some physical effort to reach central spots and nightlife.

Tips

  • Be prepared for the hotel’s uphill location; if walking is difficult, consider using the car hire or local car services.
  • Book breakfast early to avoid waiting times, as it is highly praised and popular among guests.
  • Since parking is not available, plan alternative transport options if arriving by car.

We loved everything about this hotel! We really enjoyed the photoshoot and the bride and groom's wedding. The staff was very friendly and the decor was ON POINT!

An absolutely fantastic experience. The Memmo team goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a charming, discreet, and memorable stay. I especially appreciate the team at the evening Cafe Principe, who are warm, welcoming, creative, and hardworking. The menu beautifully combines local ingredients with global flavors. I recommend the tapas selection, especially the salted shrimp and croquettes. The drinks are where this team really comes alive—they work hard to satisfy a wide range of tastes, always with a great sense of humor. The rooms are well-appointed and offer a high level of comfort. The Hermes linens and toiletries are a real treat. An outstanding hotel, I look forward to returning in a few years.

Wonderful hotel. Excellent staff, very helpful. Lisbon is beautiful. The hotel has magnificent views, but we want to highlight the wonderful staff like Antonio, Carlos, and Garandini, who make this place special and worth a visit. They are fantastic individuals, full of enthusiasm and wonderful stories. I will come back simply because of these three at this hotel. Thank you to all three and good luck.

The hotel is located at the top of a steep hill, which is normal for Lisboa. Breakfast was nice but the server forgot our order twice. Also underwhelmed with amenities provided in the bathroom with only a shampoo/body wash combo soap. Bed and room were comfortable.

A lovely hotel on a hill.
This was our first time in Principe Real and this hotel was a lovely way to experience the neighborhood. A 6 minute walk up hil leads you to nightlife and restaurants, a botanical garden and an interesting store filled with local businesses. A 10-15 min walk down hill puts you in the middle of Avenida da Liberdade with access to busses, trains and everything else you could need.

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and professional. The breakfast was hot and fresh every morning and it was a great way to start the day. The hotel is located in a neighborhood on an incline so be aware and prepared to walk. Otherwise it's a quiet street and when we didn't feel like walking up or down, we were able to have a car service pick us up easily. A lovely hotel tucked away in a great part of town. We will definitely be coming back.

Breakfast was amazing. Best bacon! Their hommade pastel de nata would stand up to the best of them.
28.08.2025 RICHARD
Wonderful staff shared some great tips on local restaurants. Outside of the hotel had a lot of construction due to development but that was beyond the control of the establishment. That will settle down.

The hotel is located uphill (about 10 stories high) from Main Street and metro station.

Well what can I say? Very good food, good wine, great location right in the middle of town with a fantastic atmosphere some helpful waiters and great people... All in all highly recommended, I'll be sure to return their at some point. Excellent overall

Popular local place with excellent service. The food is great (but the vegan dessert option of orange with mint tastes like dish soap, give that one a miss) and comes quickly. Great ambience being in a beautiful old townhouse.

When I go to The Decadente, I feel at home. Maybe I am a bit decadent. I know place, know the waiters, know the vibe. The service is great (fast, flexible and always with a smile). The menu is nice (not amazingly elaborate but it's tasty and refreshing), it changes often, even though I know that I'm getting that chocolate cake at the end. And the brunch is also amazing. My go to place when I want to go out and feel at home. Good job!

This place is more for the eye than it is for the stomach. The restaurant had a great layout very chill atmosphere, with good service. I had the steak it was good, cooked well. The wine selection was okay could have had a few more options. As for price it was mid range, we spent about 60 euros roughly and got two meals and a bottle of wine no starter. Portions aren't to big but we were satisfied.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough ! The tasting menu is fabulous, we had the 'standard' wine pairing, to familiarise ourselves with Portuguese wines - nothing standard about it, they were all exceptional ! Fantastic service, really special little spot .. !

Amazingly cooked dishes. Great deco and environment. Slightly overpriced considering the customer experience you can usually have in similar places but definitely worth trying.
08.11.2017 Frederik
The service and the wines are really good. Also three out of ten courses tasted very well but some of them weren't absolutely not our taste (e.g. ice-cream which tastes like Gorgonzola cheese).

We started our dinner at 8pm and around 10:30pm we had to leave because new people were waiting outside to get seated. Thinking about the fact that we spend > 100€ per person for the menu and the wine tasting, it's simply not appropriate to kick us out like that.
17.10.2017 Julien
I cannot emphasize enough on how great our experience was. Courteous service, amazing selection of wines (especially Antonio Maçanita’s), most certainly the best meat I ate in my life. The ambiance and decoration is an attraction in itself. A must if you are in Lisbon and are looking for an outstanding culinary experience!
14.10.2017 Claudio
An interesting place to dine, very consistent throughout the years and has been a reference for the food and for the chef, his a proper legend and has an amazing charisma and good taste for modern approach to the Portuguese culinary.
Creative
Good flavors
Busy, but attentive staff
Nice presentations and vessels
Cool vibe
