Description

La Rocaille Hotel is a 3-star property located in Baie Lazare Mahe, Seychelles, offering 1 Bedroom Cottages and 1 Bedroom Chalets. The hotel has a strong rating of 9/10 overall, with cleanliness, amenities, location, and service all scoring 9/10. Guests will find essential services such as free parking, a garden, and a terrace on-site. Although pets are listed among the services, the official policy states pets are not allowed. The accommodations include air conditioning and WiFi, but some guests have noted that the buildings are older and may have issues with insects due to the surrounding tropical forest environment. The hotel is managed by a reportedly very helpful host who focuses on guests seeking a nature-oriented stay rather than luxury or entertainment. It is important to note some guests reported cleanliness problems and insect presence, which is common in this setting.

Location

La Rocaille Hotel is situated on Anse Soleil Road in Anse Gouvernement, Baie Lazare, about 400 meters from Anse Gouvernement Beach. The Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is approximately 10 kilometers away to the southeast, making transfers relatively convenient. Nearby dining options include Maria's Rock Cafeteria located just 14 meters from the hotel, praised for very good food and excellent service. The hotel is placed away from busy tourist spots, offering a quiet, natural environment but requires some travel to reach major resorts like Kempinski and Four Seasons beaches, which are a 5-10 minute drive away.

Tips

  • Expect some insect presence due to the tropical forest environment; bringing insect repellent may help.
  • Confirm billing details carefully to avoid unexpected charges.
  • If you prefer modern comforts and spotless cleanliness, consider this carefully as some reviews mention older facilities and cleanliness issues.

Lovely host, nice location in the nature. AC and WiFi available. Ok, the building interior is not new and if you stay within a tropical forest, insects can’t be prevented, but we enjoyed our stay for a few days.

We stayed one night, and thank goodness it wasn't more, as we would have had to leave.
We looked at the reviews and Booking.com rating, as it shows a 9.1, and we thought it was a good idea to book it for our last night on the island. We're a couple who travel quite a bit, which makes us experienced in booking accommodations. Our surprise was that as soon as we entered the house, we were greeted by a huge cockroach scurrying up the wall. We thought it might be normal since we were surrounded by vegetation, but it wasn't. The house was very dirty; there were dead insects on the floor and walls, some already dried cockroaches, a lot of dust on the curtains, the lamps were very dirty, the windows had mosquito nets, but they were broken, so insects could get in at any time. There was hair on the countertop, the bathroom trash can hadn't been replaced, etc. Overall, everything was very, very dirty. The furniture was also very old and not in good condition.
We were alert all night long for any noise, as we were asleep when we were woken up by two cockroaches scurrying around the room.
It's a shame I can't attach pictures so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
A terrible experience.
We're still wondering how it even has that rating. It's very sad that you're on vacation and have to experience this kind of situation.

Extremley nice and helpful host. If you are staying for nature that's your place. If you look for comfort or entertainement, you might not be happy there. It's away from the touristic spots but within (nearly) untouched nature.

Avoid staying here. Why?
1. Really old (not like vintage old, but unpleasantly old) villa with no A/C.
2. Unpleasant smell inside.
3. Pig farm close by - you can imagine the smell, that occurs from time to time.
4. It’s in the middle of nowhere (and I’m not the one complaining to walk a mile or two).
5. Lots of ants, reptiles, mosquitoes and other flying creatures getting inside. I’m okay if they don’t disturb me, but if they do...

On the bright side, though, I’d point out Maria Rock Cafe nearby - decent food. Also it’s kind of close (5-10min drive) to Kempinski and 4 Seasons beaches - those are good.
And the landlady is nice.

Don't stay here, stay away. They steel your money. Give you a price of € 60 per night and then they debit you with € 180.

I booked a place, asked them to hold on as we had questions. We were suppose to stay the 14th of December on the 18th of December they stole triple our moneyT

Really nice fish on hot stone. Good price. Big portions. You must book table. Always booked out at night. Closes already 9 pm

One word: awesome! Good food grilled on hot stone by yourself. Nice waitress. Fair prices.

Very authentic and laid-back place to eat in the middle of the jungle. Prices are more reasonable than the local supermarket and food options within the Four Seasons and Kempinski resort. But naturally, the quality of the food will not compete against the chef's of both these prestigious resorts.

Beware though, food can take a while to arrive - and 'Hot off the stone' requires diners to cook their own food on the table. A good experience but perhaps not what everyone is looking for.

Portions are large so be wary of over-ordering. Drinks are cheap and juices/smoothies are made fresh on the spot.

Parking available immediately outside for about five cars and then several spots with a minutes walk.

Food is served only between 12pm-4pm and 6pm-8:30pm.
