Hotel RIU Garoé in Puerto de la Cruz

It is a very clean resort in a beautiful neighborhood. Our room was updated and comfortable.
In terms of the location, it is possible to walk to the city center within 25 min but the way back is uphill. The shuttle runs only during the day. One way taxi service is around 6 euros.
We had the half board meal option. There was one buffet restaurant for all of the meals. While there was a lot of selection, the food is bland and repetitive every day. It is the same every day with minor variations. If you are staying for many days, it is better not to take the dinner.
The hotel caters to mature guests. There wasn’t any music at the pool or any activities. The evening entertainment was low key.
Overall, it was a nice quiet hotel in peaceful surroundings away from the center.

Excellent Value for Money, Peaceful Location

We had a lovely stay at this hotel, which offers excellent value for money and is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The entire property is well-maintained, with a beautifully kept garden and spotless cleanliness throughout.

The staff were kind and helpful. However, apart from the reception, most of them didn’t speak English well, which led to a few awkward moments — especially during dinner when we tried to clarify which dishes were gluten-free. That said, after a few attempts, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us, even offering to prepare something special when needed. While allergens are marked on the buffet, the labels were often misleading.

At breakfast, there was a separate gluten-free basket with products from a local bakery — a nice touch, though unfortunately the quality of these items was poor. The breakfast selection was the same every day, offering the usual items. Dinner was more varied, tasty, and dishes were constantly replenished.

The cocktails at the bar were a highlight — very well made and delicious.

The location is quite remote, so walking to the beach or town center is not really an option. However, the hotel offers a free shuttle service, which was very convenient. There is no private parking, but a free public lot is available next to the hotel, and street parking was easy to find even in June.

Rooms were well-equipped, the bed was comfortable, and even the most affordable rooms offered beautiful views of both the ocean and the mountains. The pool area is great for relaxing, with plenty of sun loungers available.

Overall, while there were a few shortcomings, they were minor compared to the value we received for the price. Highly recommended — as long as the distance from the city isn't an issue!

Nice hotel with a good buffet
All in all it was great. Not ideal was that the mattress was pretty worn out, something I def. would not expect from a 4* star hotel. Als were the bed sheets replaced even though we did not put the card on the bed where it says we will decide...only if we put the card on the bed the sheets will be replaced. Seems like green washing if not sticking to their sustainability rules...
The buffet is good - lots of choices (great bread at breakfast) and there is always something else available (dinner), just some details:
- Breakfast: Orange Juice/Drinks are at about room temperature, they could at least be cooled a little bit. Scrambled eggs are tasteless/horrible! Probably stretched and at least use a bit of salt!!
- Dinner: Also partly rather tasteless, simply no spices being used. Probably target audience rather people 60+ that like it less salted etc...still it could have some more flavour! (also especially as we are in spain, a paella needs to taste line a paella).
Again, overall really good, pretty warm and fresh.

The rooms on the ground floor are extremely noisy due to the proximity of the canteen (restaurant), and the building is not insulated at all. The hotel could solve this with a simple renovation.. insulation on the roof of the restaurant and rubber pads on each chair leg so there is no noise when people move the chair back and forward. A low-cost change that would improve quality of life for all guests.
The view from the rooms is good and some rooms have sea view. The staff are very friendly and understanding. They know the problem about the noise, and they did accommodate us in a quieter room, and this was appreciated. Tea and coffee facilities are not automatic, but when I asked, they provided a kettle and some nescafe. Much appreciated. As with any hotel, some rooms are better than others. Make sure your travel agent knows how to get you a better room. This hotel is good for Germans. Pilsner beer is available in the minibar, sodawater, too. Breakfast was average for a 4 star hotel. Extras like drinks are reasonably priced. The swimming pool looks great and warm, but I did not see anyone swimming.
The bar is really nice and has outdoor gas lamps/ heater at night as well as live music.
Parking is available next to the hotel for free.

Amazing hotel with lovely staff. We had breakfast and dinner included and both were fantastic with a lot of variety. The room was clean and quite big. We would definitely love to return to this hotel.

I had a meal here and the food was excellent 😋 my mum and her friend stayed and they said the room was bery good. The entertainment was good in bar too. Location is a bit out of the way but there is a shuttle bus to town so not a down side at all.

A nice 10 day stay I had at this hotel for Christmas and the new year. The room was beautiful and very clean and had a decently sized shower. The staff is friendly and always happy to help. The pool is a great size and just the right amount of sunbeds to accommodate all the guests. The location of the hotel is nice and quiet so there wasn't any real loud noise. Also, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the centre so that was nice as it enables less mobile people to see Puerto de la Cruz as the way to get to the centre was steep.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the food at dinner was a bit bland, it lacked the uniqueness of flavour.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it! 👍

This hotel is superb. It’s kept immaculately clean, the staff are all really friendly. It’s in a quiet part of the town which I liked. There is a courtesy shuttle bus to the town centre, it’s a long hilly walk back to the hotel! The pool and bar facilities are great - nice and relaxing. Towels are provided too. No mad rush in the morning for a sunbed. Restaurant served a wide variety of cuisine - different options every night. Entertainment in the evening was good, some tradition Canarian shows and music which was enjoyable. Overall - fantastic. I would return to this hotel and recommend booking to anyone! Thank you to all the staff - both front and back of house.

The hotel as a whole is beautiful and very well run, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are relaxed, friendly and really make this hotel what it is... fantastic.

Excellent hotel in every way. Food, rooms, service pool area. A little out of the way bars etc but there is a shuttle bus in the day and a taxi fare to the town centre is only €6. We loved our stay and hope to return.
