Mars Hotel Tangalle in Tangalle

View was great. Room was relatively clean. Short walk to beach. Host was very nice even got us a driver to our next destination without problems.

However 2 major issues.

1. Our room had a mosquito problem. We complained to the host upstairs and he just told us to keep the doors windows closed which they were. However, we noticed doors had gaps that critters can slip through. So all night we were up clapping away and with mosquitoes in our ears.

2. The bathroom smell was horrid. Like the kind that stung your nose. It had a window but the owner told us keep windows closed for the mosquitos. Even with the door closed, the smell would hint throughout the room. I've been backpacking around SL for 2 weeks and this was by far the worst.

I am not sure if all rooms are like this and we didnt want to seem like complaining guest. However if you get keys to room 26....be prepared.

You get what you pay for. If those things don't bother you. Then you will enjoy it.

Clean and comfortable rooms in a good location. But more care need to be taken to the property. We had a leaking ceiling and the solution was a pail and some towels. No mentioned of a change of room. Internet connection is the biggest issue, it goes off for hours. And we’re told they had only one modem to arrive 2 floors. Not sure that’s the truth as I gathered it’s more a case of being stingy about the electricity of connectivity as I can see the modem is clearly unplugged or switched off. Laundry too is calculated as per item, so not the most economical. And the breakfast (which you have to pay) is rubbish.
