Ocean Tribe Sri Lanka Hotel in Weligama

I booked Ocean Tribe Surf Camp after doing way too much online research and reading what felt like a hundred reviews and I’m so glad I did. I was not disappointed for even a second.
Quick disclaimer: if you’re looking for a wild party surf camp, this isn’t your spot. But if you genuinely want to improve your surfing and be around people who take the sport seriously while keeping it relaxed and soulful …. this is absolutely your place.
The camp is a cozy little space tucked away in a lane just off the main road, right across the beach in Weligama. The vibe is Incredibly positive. I don’t know if it’s the place itself or the people , probably both😊
I booked the Surf & Relax package with a deluxe room. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very well maintained .
Now coming to the most important part — the coaching. I’m technically a beginner. I had attended a couple of surf camps before, but the experiences weren’t great. This time, I didn’t just want the thrill of standing on a board for Instagram🤣 I genuinely wanted to improve my skills.

Milan, who runs the place, really gets that. He took the time to understand what I was looking for and assigned instructors accordingly. Most of my sessions were with Dulshan and Bunty, and I learned so much from both of them. They were patient, observant, and focused on actual progress.
Evenings were spent doing surf analysis sessions with Milan , reviewing technique, understanding mistakes, and learning how to improve.. The feedback wasn’t generic; it was specific and constructive, and it made a real difference.
The food deserves a mention too. Breakfast and the dinner buffet were consistently tasty and well-prepared. The staff were warm, polite, and always ready to help.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience ….the kind that makes you want to come back not just for the waves, but for the people and the growth you feel while you’re there.
I’ll definitely be back next season — not just to surf, but to get better … cheers !

From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. Everyone there went above and beyond to make you feel at home. They were not only professional and organized, but also genuinely warm and friendly. It never felt like “just a business” — it felt like a small community built around a shared love for the ocean. I had an amazing experience here as a beginner surfer. I was worried that as a beginner I wouldn't fit in, but from the moment I arrived everyone was really welcoming. The food was great and they have the best coffee I'd tried during my entire trip to Sri Lanka!

The surf lessons were so much fun and I learned a lot. The yoga was also fantastic - Mahaut is an absolutely brilliant teacher.

I stayed in a mixed dorm with 4 beds, it was clean and comfortable with AC.

Thank you Milan and the team at Ocean Tribe for a magical week. I'll be back!!

I loved Ocean Tribe. The layout and location of the place is a little dreamy sanctuary, close to everything but hidden away. And is really quiet…slept so good here!
All the staff and surf instructors were really lovely and friendly. It was great to improve my beginner surfing skills! Also loved the yoga on the roof every afternoon.
I am hoping to return in the future!

We've spent a week in this camp and probably it was the best decision of the year. Everyone there is extremely nice, we've learnt a lot and definitely improved our surfing skills.
Location is great, it's close to everything but at the same time super quiet, probably the best sleep I've had in Sri Lanka so far. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Food is also pretty good and I really enjoyed our dinners together.
Also, cats and dogs that live in the camp are adorable.
I would love to come back again.

The Ocean Tribe is the perfect place for a stay in Weligama. The place itself is beautiful and kind of an oasis in busy Weligama. Just a few meters from main road and the beach and still it is very calm and quiet. Food is always on point as well as the service and the whole atmosphere in this place. Loved it and will be back for sure. Lots of Love!

Wonderful little paradise to stay in Weligama! Every detail is simply perfect here. The rooms are a gorgeous!!! Large and furnished with an insane amount of style and attention for detail. The food is unbelievably delicious. The vibes are just awesome: cool, casual, relaxed & stylish at the same time. The team is simply the best. So incredibly welcoming, you immediately feel at home.

This is the perfect place to stay in Weligama. The staff is the best, the food is absolutely awesome and the rooms are nice and spacious. We enjoyed ten days here, will definitely come back! ❤️

We only stayed for 2 days.. but if we knew how amazing the place is, we would have stayed more!!!! Every thing was amazing!
The food was wonderful! The people that works their are super nice! Milan, who is in charge of the place is very welcoming! Helped us with everything!

It’s a small place, not a lot of rooms, so, it feels like a family place…

The property boasts a very intimate and well designed kitchen/bar/lounge area which for me is the focal point of its design. The rooms are very well layed out and the facilities available (outdoor showers, surfboard room etc) make it an easy stay. The staff here were great to me and made me feel welcome and never alone and this just adds to the brilliant food they served. Truly one of the best places to stay on the sea road. Thoroughly recommend.

Ocean Tribe Surf Camp is an amazing place to stay! Comfortable, friendly and social environment with lush green tropical vibes! It’s a beautiful space to chill and relax after morning / day of surfing. Milan is an incredibly welcoming Host. The rooms and facilities are clean and well kept with good fast fibre WIFI connection. The food is great, but also the location allows for a short walk to explore other local spots for eating as well as the main beach!
